Today, platinum-selling singer-songwriter, Pete Yorn, releases his covers album Pete Yorn Sings the Classics (via Shelly Music) exclusively on Bandcamp. Its lead single “They Don’t Know” - is a charming cover of Kirsty MacColl’s original track from 1979, which was also reimagined by Tracey Ullman in 1983. That single is available now on all DSP’s. Yorn will be performing “They Don’t Know” for the first time on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on January 19th.
The Classics is Yorn's first solo studio album since the release of Caretakers in 2019. Pete has also been busy with a string of successful livestream shows throughout the last year that The New York Times highlighted as must-watch content.
Yorn’s covers album celebrates his musical influences, with a collection of songs originally performed by Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, The Velvet Underground, The Stone Roses, Simon and Garfunkel and more. Liz Phair sings with Pete on "Here Comes Your Man" and "Theme From Mahogany (Do You Know Where You're Going To)". Rami Jaffee (Wallflowers, Foo Fighters) plays on the majority of the songs on the record.
Yorn, who produced Pete Yorn Sings the Classics with Marc “Doc” Dauer, says of the collection, “...all of these songs resonate so deeply with me, they just made me want to sing along. They affected me emotionally, psychologically, and viscerally at one cosmic moment in time or another, and I carry a torch for them still.”

Since his extraordinary 2001 debut album musicforthemorningafter, Yorn has released a total of eight albums of angsty, critically-acclaimed rock. In 2019, Yorn released Caretakers (via Shelly Music), his first solo album in three years featuring the top 2 AAA single “Calm Down”. The New Yorker Magazine praised the album’s “dreamy synths-and-strings jangle” and in All Music’s 4 star review they described the music as “lush yet spare, tuneful but not forceful, cinematic yet small scale… an appealing blend that sets it apart from most other albums in 2019." Yorn performed songs from the album on Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
