New Album To Be Released On Sony Music’s Legacy Recordings Worldwide In February Of 2018 Will Contain Classic Remastered Hits Alongside Brand New Tracks

Los Angeles, CA --- TOTO is pleased to announce the first set of shows in support of the band’s 40^th Anniversary beginning in 2018.  The 40 Trips Around The Sun Tour will begin in February 2018 in Europe.  The tour will be the band’s most extensive run in years and will be a worldwide tour to celebrate the band’s enduring career.  More shows will be announced shortly.

 

Along side the launch of the tour, TOTO along with Legacy Recordings have created a brand new Greatest Hits package. The album will feature brand new previously unreleased music along side newly remastered classic tracks worked on by Elliot Scheiner & Gavin Lurssen and his team.  The core Toto members, Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro, Joseph Williams re-entered the studio this past year to work on the material.  Full details on that album along side many other projects the band has in the works with Legacy Recordings will be announced at a later date.

Artist: Simple Minds

Title: Acoustic In Concert (Eagle Rock Entertainment)

You might like if you enjoy: Simple Minds, U2, Coldplay

Tell me more: Although it has been 40 years since Simple Minds formed in Glasgow, Scotland, the troupe's music resonates with as much power as ever as on the DVD+CD release Acoustic In Concert. Captured at London's legendary Hackey Empire on Nov. 10, 2016, Simple Minds' performance as part of BBC Radio 2's "In Concert" series is a revelation for those who love textured and artful melodic alt rock. While the band members use acoustic instruments this is definitely no easy listening affair. Singer Jim Kerr leads the ensemble through a potent and impassioned concert that includes well-known hits such as "Promised You a Miracle," "Don't You (Forget About Me)" and "Sanctify Yourself," as well as tributes to some of the group's own heroes (David Bowie's "Andy Warhol" and Patti Smith's "Dancing Barefoot"). The concert ends with Simple Minds being joined on stage by groundbreaking English singer-songwriter Steve Harley to perform a joyous "Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me)." Title: Adiós (Ume)

Tell me more: The process of recording Glen Campbell's Adiós was understandably difficult. After all, the legendary country and pop singer was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2011 and retired from live performing in November 2012. After his final tour, Campbell was able to work with his wife Kim and producer/musician Carl Jackson to record a number of songs he had talked about over the years for what would be his final studio LP. Across Adiós Campbell still displays a stunning tenor voice and the album sounds polished despite the challenges of his debilitating disease. Among the highlights on the album are Campbell's interpretations of four Jimmy Webb's songs. Among the crop of Webb contributions are the lovely "Just Like Always," the wistful "It Won't Bring Her Back" and "Postcard From Paris," the latter especially touching with three of Campbell's children singing the bittersweet line "I wish you were here" throughout the song. There is also a magical pairing of Campbell and Willie Nelson on "Funny How Time Slips Away," with the two icons swapping verses. Information: GlenCampbell.com.

Tell me more: Chuck Berry's final gift to the world ranks with one of the late icon's best-ever recordings. Berry, who died at age 90 in March 2017, had not released a new studio album since 1979 before CHUCK was issued earlier this month. The rock 'n' roll founding father is joined by a collection of guests and family members that joyfully join forces to capture Berry's exuberant blend of rock, blues, hillbilly and R&B that has influenced everyone from the Beatles and Rolling Stones to ELO and Gary Clark Jr. Rock's first-ever guitar hero, Berry was also a master storyteller and his lyrics doubled as pure poetry. All those remarkable gifts are on display here; the infectious "Wonderful Woman" features Berry as well as his son, grandson and Texas bluesman Gary Clark Jr. The album's first single "Big Boys" is a buoyant and cheerful track that captures the energy of Berry's beloved early singles with a driving rhythm and high-spirited lead guitar work. Other songs explore his love of blues (particularly an enticing cover of "You Go To My Head"), old styled country music (the tender ballad "Darlin', a duet he sings with daughter Ingrid Berry) and Caribbean vibes (the reggae-styled "Jamaica Moon"). Title: Americana (Sony Legacy)

Tell me more: Ray Davies has long been rightly recognized as having a creative voice able to fully capture the English experience. But on the aptly-titled Americana, the long-time Kinks frontman has masterfully tapped into the American landscape to create a number of lovely songs that chronicle tales set on this side of The Pond. Backed by one of America's best and most enduring Americana groups, The Jayhawks, Davies' 15-track disc is a mix of his memorable songs and intelligent arrangements. It are the big and little things that work across the album; on "The Deal" there is the straightforward satire-laced tale of scoring success in the entertainment industry but the use of spoken word and lush musical textures makes sure the song works on multiple fronts. Everywhere there are eloquent forays, with the beautifully sparse "Message From The Road" (featuring Davies sharing lead vocals with Jayhawks singer-keyboardist Karen Grotberg), the bluesy politically-charged "Change For Change," infectious roots rocker "The Great Highway" and probing "Wings Of Fantasy" among the diverse songs that tackle the American experience with artistic candor. Tell me more: Weather Diaries is Ride's first new album in 21 years and the great news is the album is every bit as great as the English quartet's remarkable return witnessed at Coachella in April 2015. The group's original lineup (guitarist-singer Andy Bell, lead singer-guitarist Mark Gardener, drummer Laurence "Los" Colbert and bassist Steve Queralt) is back together for Weather Diaries, which kicks off with the haunting and hypnotic rocker "Lannoy Point." That powerful musical statement is no fluke; every cut on the album thrives on the power of mood, clever song craft, and skilled musicianship. The electronica-styled "All I Want," lush "Home Is A Feeling," sweeping and swirling "Cali," and zestful "Lateral Alice" are among the terrific tracks on this welcome return. Ride have released a new single "Lannoy Point", meditating on the state of broken Britain and hoping for a new start to turn things around. Hear the anthemic, chiming opener from the forthcoming Weather Diaries as premiered on NME.com or at the link above. Ride's blistering new album Weather Diaries, their first album in over 20 years, is due out next week on Friday June 16, 2017 through Wichita Recordings.

Ride frontman Mark Gardner elaborates on his frustrations with the state of the nation poured into "Lannoy Point's" lyrics, "Lyrically 'Lannoy Point' is my reflection on what the fuck is going on with all this backward 'Little Britain' depressing, blind faith, Brexit times we find ourselves in. As I muse on in the chorus, I hope that 'A better sense can start again' to find our way out of this mess!"

Bassist Steve Queralt counters with his pithy insight into the writing of the track, "'Lannoy Point' is the result of going synth shopping in the States. I found an old Poly 61 exactly the same as the one I had when I was very young and the backing track is the sound of my bank account emptying as I shipped it back to London."

The new track comes in the same week as Ride announces a series of listening events across North America all taking place on June 15, 2017, the night before the album drops. The listening events will be the first full album playbacks and there will also be free promo items available along with contests for t-shirts and gratis items with purchase while supplies last.

In addition, Ride also announces their upcoming tour across the UK in November, starting off at London's Kentish Town Forum on November 7th. Full details are below, with the Oxford four piece also calling at Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Having already confirmed a handful of eagerly anticipated UK festival shows for this summer - including Glastonbury, Latitude and Green Man Festival - and a truly special homecoming show at Oxford New Theatre on July 10, today's announcement of a full UK tour adds to what's shaping up to a burgeoning year of live activity for the revitalized four piece. Additionally Ride announced a new intimate London date as part of Erol Alkan's To The Rhythm residency at XOYO on July 28, further extending their current collaboration with the feted DJ, producer and remixer.

Wetton/Downes' iCon announces the mainstream release of “Urban Psalm” on 2CD/1DVD available now

Here is exiting news as it relates to a new release featuring iCon, a project featuring ASIA co-founders John Wetton and Geoff Downes. There are also some other notable artists featured on the collection including guitarist Dave Kilminister...

Wetton/Downes' iCon Announces the Mainstream Release of “Urban Psalm” on 2CD/1DVD – OUT NOW!

London, UK – The collaboration of the ASIA co-founders, John Wetton and Geoff Downes' iCon, has led to the formation of Epicon Records (via Cherry Red) and its first release of “Urban Psalm” as a 2CD/1DVD set. The release was planned before John Wetton's death in January 2017 and is fully approved by Geoff Downes and the Wetton Estate.

The concert was filmed at the iconic St Mary-le-Bow church in London and features a unique set including iCon songs, heritage tracks and the greatest hits of ASIA. This release of “Urban Psalm” is the first in a series of definitive re-releases of the iCon catalogue.

The “Urban Psalm” recording also features Dave Kilminster (Roger Waters, Keith Emerson) on guitars, Pete Riley (whom John called “the best drummer in the world” and played with Keith Emerson alongside Dave), Panic Room's Anne-Marie Helder on vocals and ELO's Hugh McDowell played cello.

Of the release Geoff Downes said: “ 'Urban Psalm' emerged out of a very special one-time concert featuring the music of John and I. Set in an historic church in London, the concert was recorded and filmed. Concert goers received a DVD as part of their attendance. Few people had the opportunity to see this live and until now has had very limited fan-based distribution.”

The setting was historic and intimate and the film has not been shared widely until now, although fans came from around the world to participate. You're in for a rare treat!

Sights and Sounds: Luke Hemsworth, Trace Adkins, Kris Kristofferson and Bruce Dern star in HICKOK

One of my favorite concerts of 2016 featured legendary singer-songwriter Kris Kristofferson performing a memorable acoustic set at Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa in November (read my review of that show here).. He and his wife Lisa were kind and emailed me a "thank you" from the set of a film he was working on. Now that movie titled HICKOK is set to be released and it stars several other noted performers including actor-singer Trace Adkins, actor Bruce Dern and star Luke Hemsworth. Synopsis:

 

The story of the West's most notorious gunslinger and his road to redemption, HICKOK finds the infamous, hard-drinking outlaw (Hemsworth) in 1870's Abilene, Kansas, seeking to start a new life.  Captivated by Wild Bill's unparalleled gun skills, the mayor, George Knox, (Kristofferson) quickly ropes him in as the town marshal.  Recognizing the need to clamp down on the wildest cow-town in the west, Hickok soon finds himself at the center of a controversial ordinance while dispensing his own brand of frontier justice.  His attempts to protect Abilene, however, are quickly challenged by a band of outlaws led by powerful saloon owner Phil Poe (Adkins).  And when Poe places a bounty on Wild Bill's head, the marshal, with the help of outlaw turned lawman John Wesley Hardin, makes a stand for Abilene and his new life, while putting his reputation as the fastest draw in the west on the line.
