Neil Young's 1975 album 'Tonight's The Night' coming as 50th Anniversary Edition

Check out the official media release with details about a 50th Anniversary edition of Neil Young's "Tonight's The Night" album release coming next month...Robert Kinsler

NEIL YOUNG REVISTS 1975 CLASSIC ALBUM TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT WITH 50TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION FEATURING SIX BONUS TRACKS AND REIMAGINED COVER ART

RECORDED IN 1973, DEFINITIVE VERSION NOW CONTAINS 18 SONGS TO BE RELEASED NOVEMBER 28 VIA WARNER/REPRISE RECORDS

There are certain albums meant to make a difference. Even before they're released into the world, the way they are inspired and then brought to life feel meant to be. And, in 1975, when Neil Young released TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT it was definitely foretold. Young had been recording with new-edge musicians and had written songs that become lifelong inspirations.

Recorded in 1973 on analog tape, it was released two years later and has since been regarded as one of Neil's masterpieces. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the album, six bonus tracks have been added to this limited edition release of one of Young's truly inspirational releases.

Many unique additions have been gathered to create the definitive edition of what many have called the third and final installment of the “The Ditch Trilogy." 1975 was a historical time, and the album reflects that. These were turbulent times which saw the end of the Vietnam War, a new president in the White House but nothing would affect Young more than the untimely and tragic passing of two close friends, original Crazy Horse guitarist/vocalist Danny Whitten and devoted road crew member Bruce Berry. In so many ways, Neil Young's music fifty years later is still growing from all that was inspired from the time of TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT. It's a feeling and knowledge was opened up from the songs of the album.

The 50th Anniversary Deluxe limited edition will be released on vinyl, CD and digitally. A clear vinyl format is available at Greedy Hand Store and indie retailers. The original artwork has been creatively reimagined for this limited edition release.

Included on the new anniversary release are unreleased original versions of "Lookout Joe" and "Walk On," both recorded during the original 1973 album sessions at S.I.R. in Los Angeles. "Lookout Joe" replaces the original released album version that was recorded at Young's Broken Arrow Studio and subsequently included in Tonight’s the Night original release. Both "Lookout Joe" and "Walk On" fit like a glove with the original TTN releases, recorded in the same sessions and have the same vibe. There are also five bonus tracks on the 50TH ANNIVERSARY edition: These versions of "Lookout Joe", "Walk On," and "Tonight's The Night" (Take 3) have never been released. "Everybody's Alone," "Raised on Robbery" (featuring Joni Mitchell,) and "Speakin' Out" Jam appeared in NEIL YOUNG ARCHIVES VOL II, while the unreleased TTN version of “Wonderin'’ from the same sessions has only ever been available to stream on NYA. This is the first time all six bonus tracks from the original sessions have been available on vinyl, making this the most cohesive and true version of Tonight's The Night.

In Young's unique career path, all these recordings from such an exciting period of his career and rock & roll itself were opening up new abilities to expand the music, looking towards the future as well as celebrating the past. It was a period for change, even in its earliest adventures.

Power Pop Shimmers Via Expanded Editions

Fans of melodic rock and power pop will want to catch up and pick up three terrific deluxe editions available now.

Artist: Badfinger
Titles: Badfinger — Expanded Edition; Wish You Were Here — Expanded Edition (Real Gone Music)
You might like if you enjoy: The Beatles, Paul McCartney, John Lennon
Tell me more: Power pop aficionados recognize Badfinger as one of the genre's greatest ever musical heroes, with the groundbreaking quartet's first four LPs released on Apple Records generating bona fide hits such as "Come and Get It," "No Matter What," "Day After Day" and "Baby Blue." The Welsh group's move to Warner Bros. Records in 1973 would result in several more brilliant efforts. Both discs — Badfinger and subsequent Wish You Were Here — have recently been released in expanded editions that are glorious.

While none of the songs here yielded radio play paydirt, don't be fooled; many tracks on the discs rank alongside the best material ever completed by the seminal lineup of Pete Ham (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Joey Molland (vocals, guitar), Mike Gibbins (vocals, drums, guitar) and Tom Evans (vocals, bass). The far-flung material showcased on "Badfinger" includes the breezy folk rocker "Shine On," the soul-meets-blues blaster "Island," Memphis soul-mining "Matted Spam" and intoxicating rock ballad "Lonely You." "Wish You Were Here" — often considered Badfinger's most outstanding album — shines with the likes of the melodic rocker "Just a Chance," alluring alt country-flavored "Your So Fine," Beatlesque "Know One Knows," ambitious "Dennis" and poetic "King of the Load." Those songs and others evoke powerful emotions 45 years after they were recorded by producer Chris Thomas at Caribou Ranch in Colorado. Both albums have been remastered and each includes a number of bonus tracks (such as alternate and work-in-progress mixes). Sadly, Pete Ham — only 27 — would commit suicide shortly after the release of "Wish You Were Here." Information: RealGoneMusic.com.

Artist: Permanent Green Light
Title: Hallucinations (Omnivore Recordings)
You might like if you enjoy: Three O'Clock, Game Theory, dada
Tell me more: When I caught the reunited The Three O'Clock at Coachella in April 2013 it brought back a slew of great memories of watching the Paisley Underground band tear it up in area clubs back in Los Angeles in the 1980s. Michael Quercio, lead singer and bassist of The Three O'Clock, also made his mark on the Southern California musical underground in the '90s courtesy of Permanent Green Light; that band is celebrated across the stunning Hallucinations available now via Omnivore Recordings. Quercio, singer-guitarist Matt Devine and drummer Chris Bruckner shine across the compilation featuring a mix of choice cuts and terrific sounding four-track cassette demos. The trio's driving, melodic and harmonies-bolstered songs not only stand the test of time but tear away the years with otherworldly force. Every track on this set is recommended with the driving "(You & I Are The) Summertime" (heard in both its demo form and finished studio recording), infectious "We Could Just Die," wistful "The Goddess Bunny," blistering previously-unheard 4-track demo "Lovely To Love Me" and baroque nugget "Marianne Gave Up Her Hand" among my faves. The 16-page booklet that comes with the audio CD provides a wealth of period photographs, ephemera, and reflections from the three band members along with friends and fans. Master songwriters shine on new releases

Americana, blues and country music is celebrated on a trio of essential new titles.

Artist: Gary Clark Jr.
Title: This Land (Warner Bros. Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Eric Gales, Walter Trout, Jimi Hendrix
Tell me more: A number of years ago genre-busting blues-rock great Walter Trout told this writer that if blues music was to survive and thrive that artists would have to continually push the boundaries of the genre forward. Listening to the latest masterwork from Austin-born singer-songwriter/guitar virtuoso Gary Clark Jr. is to hear how right Trout was; across the brilliant This Land the GRAMMY Award-winning artist proves the secret of keeping blues alive and relevant comes via stunning musical excellence and a forceful ability to tap into real world experience to keep it all real. The rousing title track that leads off the 17-track disc is aimed squarely at President Trump and modern-day racism as Clark sings "Fuck you, I'm America's son / This is where I come from," before reinforcing his resolve "This land is mine." The song's explosive finale features a mix of gospel vocals and fiery guitar work. Other songs extol a spirit of self-discovery (notably "I Walk Alone" and "Low Down Rolling Stone") that is never less than inspired. Elsewhere, Clark taps into more gentle regions of his world; the retro-styled soul gem "When I'm Gone" and beautiful R&B ballad "Pearl Cadillac" are among my favorites. It doesn't hurt that Clark can play his guitar as well as any blues rocker today and can sing with the force of Sam Cooke one moment and soulful grace of a young Al Green the next. Information: GaryClarkJr.com.

Artist: Ted Russell Kamp
Title: Walkin' Shoes (PoMo Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Waylon Jennings, Dwight Yoakam, Shooter Jennings
Tell me more: Listening to singer-songwriter Ted Russell Kamp's new LP Walkin' Shoes is to be swept up in the artist's life spent playing music and touring the world in search – and celebration – of the perfect show. The original songs splashed across the album capture the freewheeling lifestyle of a career musician. Tracks such as  "Home Away From Home," "Paid By the Mile," "This Old Guitar" and "Highway Whisper" evoke the reflective experience of life spent on the road. The rowdy countrified rocker "Tail Light Shine," yearning Americana ballad "Freeway Mona Lisa" and joyful Southern rocker "Roll On Through the Night" bolster the road-ready mindset chronicled on the terrific Walkin' Shoes. Kamp uses his wide range of bona fide talents on bass, guitar, keyboards, horns and percussion in support of his resonant baritone vocals on the outstanding 13-song release. Information: TedRussellKamp.com.

Artist: Leroy Jodie Pierson
Title: Rusty Nail (Omnivore Recordings)
You might like if you enjoy: Mississippi Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson, Son House
Tell me more: This week will see the release of a deluxe, expanded 30th anniversary reissue of blues master Leroy Jodie Pierson's 1988 Rusty Nail. Lovers of traditional Delta blues and modern Americana will all find reasons to love this outstanding disc, which features a mix of reworked classics and original material performed by Pierson, Geoffrey Sietz (drums, fiddle) and Russell Horneyer (bass). Among the great Pierson-penned cuts on the disc are the uptempo title track, slide guitar-adorned "Long Lonesome Road" and tradition-minded "Easy Rider." His approach in revisiting his own heroes' work reaches its wonderful zenith on versions of Mississippi Fred McDowell's "Highway 61" and "Write Me a Few Lines." Pierson's shining fretwork astounds on the instrumental "Mole's Moan." Among the previously-unreleased bonus tracks is a joyful take on Eddie Cochran's "Twenty Flight Rock" and his own rockabilly-tinged standout "Far and Wide." Information: OmnivoreRecordings.com.

The two-CD Purple Rain Deluxe set includes the official 2015 Paisley Park Remaster of the original tapes from the soundtrack, presenting an unheard vision of the album overseen and sanctioned by Prince himself. The From The Vault & Unreleased disc boasts eleven gems unearthed from the heart of Prince's storied vault.

Six tracks that have never been released or distributed in the collector or bootleg community include: "Possessed" - the '83 Prince solo version, never heard before; "Electric Intercourse" - the studio version not known to exist before it was discovered at Paisley Park; "Father's Song" - a full, five plus minute version that prior to this fans could only find a minute and half snippet of in the movie; "We Can Fuck" - a track that has never circulated as the full, 10 minute version with these lyrics; and "Katrina's Paper Dolls" - a finished master of the song, which has previously only circulated as a demo. Additionally, all of the material is taken from the source and mastered by Bernie Grundman, the mastering engineer who worked on the original album.

In addition to the Original Album (2015 Paisley Park Remaster) and From The Vault & Unreleased, the Purple Rain Deluxe - Expanded Edition presents a third disc of Single Edits & B-Sides, as well as the concert DVDof Prince and The Revolution Live! at the Carrier Dome Syracuse, NY March 30, 1985. With audio and video restored from the original production master tape, it offers an exclusive vignette into the passion and power of his legendary live performances during one of the artist's most celebrated eras.

The DNA of Purple Rain can be felt throughout pop culture at large. It is a timeless body of work with an immortal resonance exemplified by smashes such as "Let's Go Crazy," "When Doves Cry," "Darling Nikki," the title track "Purple Rain," and more. 1984's Purple Rain remains a high watermark for Prince, changing the worlds of film and music. In its initial run, the theatrical musical generated over $220 million worldwide at the box office against an estimated $7.2 million budget, while receiving the Academy Award® for "Best Original Song Score." Minted Diamond by the RIAA for sales exceeding 13 million, the record stands out as the sixth best-selling soundtrack album in history, moving more than 22 million copies. Hailed by Vanity Fair as "the best soundtrack of all time," Time Magazine placed it as the 15th greatest album ever. Posthumously, it was honored as "Favorite Soundtrack" at the 2016 American Music Awards. The album won two 1985 GRAMMY Awards® in the categories of "Best Rock Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal" and "Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or Television Special." Posthumously, it was honored as "Favorite Soundtrack" at the 2016 American Music Awards.
