Earlier this month Lady Gaga revealed “Hold My Hand” as the first single to be released from the soundtrack. Produced by Gaga and BloodPop© with additional production by Benjamin Rice, the soaring anthem received widespread critical acclaim right after its release with Billboard declaring “Lady Gaga soars with “Hold My Hand,” and Vanity Fair raved the song “catapults her [Gaga] into next year’s Oscar race.”  

 

“I Ain’t Worried” by GRAMMY® nominated band OneRepublic followed. Produced by Ryan Tedder, Brent Kutzle, Simon Oscroft and Tyler Spry, OneRepublic will perform “I Ain’t Worried” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (NBC, 11:35/10:35c), tonight May 27^th. 

 

With a combination of classics from the original film, new music, and score, the album reflects Top Gun’s past, present, and future all at once. It boasts instantly recognizable cuts such as the theme song “Danger Zone” by Kenny Loggins, while Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller recorded a show-stopping live rendition of “Great Balls of Fire” showcased in the film and included on the record. Blues music never goes out of style, and several wonderful new releases celebrate the genre's lasting influence and intersection with soul, funk and rock 'n' roll. Elsewhere, singer-songwriter Ali McManus inspires on her debut with personal songcraft. Additionally, Moby returns with his best full-length studio album since the early '00s.

Tell me more: The new Both Sides Of The Sky sheds additional light on the myriad of talents of singer-songwriter-guitarist Jimi Hendrix, whose legacy continues to grow more than 47 years after his untimely death at the age of 27. Comprised of tracks recorded after the release of 1968's Electric Ladyland, things kick off with an exhilarating reworking of the Muddy Waters blues number "Mannish Boy" recorded during the first-ever studio session with the Band Of Gypsies (bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles). Both Sides Of The Sky is the third volume in a trilogy of albums (that began in 2010 with Valleys of Neptune" and continued with 2013's People, Hell and Angels) featuring the best and most important previously-unissued studio recordings remaining in the Hendrix archives. To be sure, the new set is sure to please both casual and hardcore fans of Hendrix. "Lover Man" features Hendrix delivering some tasty and rapid-fire guitar playing; listen closely and it isn't just the speed of the guitar playing but how much Hendrix's soul is on display as well. His original blues-tinged psychedelic rocker "Hear My Train A-Comin'," the beautiful instrumental "Sweet Angel," jazzy "Jungle" and genre-bending "Power Of Soul" all boast a similar firepower and emotive touch that impresses mightily. One of the most interesting cuts on the disc is a version of Joni Mitchell's then-new song "Woodstock," featuring Stephen Stills on lead vocals and Hendrix on bass guitar; just as lively is "Things I Used To Do" featuring Johnny Winter on slide guitar. "Both Sides Of The Sky" is an essential release that will ultimately prove to be one of the most significant titles of 2018. Tell me more: Bringing her powerful soprano into a Southern soul-steeped soundscape, singer-songwriter Janiva Magness' 14th album Love is an Army is a star-studded effort. Joined on select tracks by several well-known guests, the overall Memphis-drenched Americana-soul is further enhanced by New Orleans blues and Nashville-mining country elements. The bluesy "Hammer" features Mississippi harmonica great Charlie Musselwhite; the uptempo "On And On" is buoyed by Rusty Young's pedal steel work. The gospel-styled title track, wistful "Down Below" and piano-anchored ballad "What I Could Do" (the latter a duet with Delbert McClinton) are among the timely thought-provoking songs that address themes of love, hope and justice free of cliche. Even with all the notables who appear on the album, there is little doubt that it is Magness' own formidable talents as singer and songwriter that bind and elevate this terrific album. Tell me more: Def Leppard fans have long recognized Phil Collen as one of his generation's most talented electric guitar players, but the artist's heavy-hitting blues project Delta Deep allows for an even greater appreciation of his skills. On the newly-released East Coast Live, Delta Deep (whose line-up includes Collen, Stone Temple Pilot's Robert DeLeo on bass guitar, frontwoman Debbi Blackwell-Cook and drummer Forrest Robinson) unleash a decidedly strong approach in a mix that is rooted in the blues but will appeal to fans of classic rock too. Opening with a fiery take on Led Zeppelin's 1971 classic "Black Dog," other highlights include "Miss Me," Motown-tinged "Treat Her Like Candy," the rock 'n' soul foray "Private Number" and a heavy reworking of the 1940s blues cut "Black Coffee." Tell me more: For fans of Moby's groundbreaking 1999 album Play and 2002's equally-enthralling 18, the artist's newly-released Everything Was Beautiful And Nothing Hurt is a welcome return to a focus on emotion-charged material blending electronica, trip-hop and soul. The songs here explode with hypnotic layers of musical textures and inviting vocals; the lyrical themes are meaningful, spanning introspective explorations of the modern world to spirituality and seemingly everything in between. "Like a Motherless Child" features Moby's spoken word confessional in the verses, artfully balanced by a gospel vocalist's elegiac singing in the choruses. "This Wild Darkness" is equally gorgeous and melancholic, with a gospel chorus adding a spiritual element. Everywhere Moby's approach invites the listener to delve beyond the intoxicating moodscape to listen and connect on a more weighty level. "The Middle Is Gone" begins with Moby's declaration of doubt and unfulfilled dreams; the song builds slowly with a symphonic touch before everything closes on a single low note. The sparse "Falling Rain and Light" recalls some of GoGo Penguin's recent work, albeit with swirling airy voices that embellish the lush arrangement. Tell me more: Ali McManus' debut album Unbreakable is truly a triumph. The talented 21-year-old singer-songwriter/multi-instrumentalist is also an inspirational speaker and for good reason. Confined to a wheelchair since the age of 7 (because of a rare bone disorder) and giving powerful voice to her original songs despite having only 30 percent of normal lung capacity, the Detroit native's songs are straightforward and affecting. The title track on her Unbreakable EP is infectious, but the sense of melancholy gives the lyrics added depth: "I am what I am / And I love where I stand / Yeah, I can't stand for long / But I'm goin' strong / I'm Unbreakable." Produced by the legendary Jack Douglas (who served as engineer on John Lennon's "Imagine" and many of Aerosmith's best-known albums in the 1970s), "Unbreakable" also features the uptempo "Wings," contemplative "Heart Shattered," winning "Breaking Free" and lovely "Home." A plethora of outstanding titles featuring classic and emerging artists have been released recently, including a highly-anticipated release from The Doors, a collection celebrating singer-pianist Nina Simone, a tribute to power pop favorite Matthew Sweet and several strong movie soundtracks.

Tell me more: The Doors remain one of rock's most groundbreaking and original bands of any era. So anytime new music emerges from The Doors' short but prolific career there is a bona fide reason to celebrate. The last known unseen performance of The Doors in existence has been released, and it truly offers up an astounding experience for discerning fans of the Los Angeles-spawned quartet. The Doors: Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 features the group coming out on stage at 2 a.m. on Aug. 30, 1970 in a performance that featured an understandably-reserved Jim Morrison (the singer had been the focus of a well-publicized obscenity trial in Miami). But while Morrison spends most of the set positioned close to his microphone and rarely even opens his eyes, the concert itself is bolstered by the power of the band's songs, strength of the musicianship and Morrison's emotive vocals. Highlights include a driving "Break On Through (To The Other Side)" and a 14-minute take on "Light My Fire." In addition to the concert film, there is a bonus featurette titled "This Is The End" anchored by 17 minutes of interviews conducted by the film's original director (Academy Award-winner Murray Lerner) with guitarist Robby Krieger, drummer John Densmore and original Doors manager Bill Siddons. There is additional archival interview footage with the late keyboardist Ray Manzarek from 2002. Tell me more: Remastered in 2017 and released earlier this month, the 14 tracks on Mood Indigo: The Complete Bethlehem Singles celebrate the 60th anniversary of Nina Simone entering Manhattan's Beltone Studios to record her debut album Little Girl Blue for Bethlehem Records. Only 25 at the time, the North Carolina native was already a talented singer blessed with a rich voice and virtuoso skills at the keyboard to match. At the session she recorded what would be her first hit "Porgy (I Loves You, Porgy)" and a wide range of other material showcasing her already-keen musical talents. Take the buoyant "Love Me or Leave Me," where her contralto soprano and baroque-meets-jazz piano skills are blended artfully. She could also deliver moving and hushed ballads, as evidenced by her version of Rodgers & Hart's "Little Girl Blue" and an ambitious instrumental interpretation of the 1945 Rodgers and Hammerstein show tune "You'll Never Walk Alone." On the rousing jazz-meets-blues instrumental "African Mailman," she pounds on the keys and conjures up a storm accompanied by bassist Jimmy Bond and drummer Al "Tootie" Heath. The newly-issued collection comes just in time to celebrate Simone's upcoming induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 14. Sadly, Simone died at the age of 70 in April 2003. Tell me more: Available as a 2-disc audio CD set or as a digital album, Altered Sweet is a wonderful tribute to singer-songwriter-guitar great Matthew Sweet. The shimmering, well-crafted and melodic songcraft associated with Matthew Sweet is on display everywhere here. Lisa Mychols kicks things off with an ace take on "Looking at the Sun" and the power of the selections rarely falters. Standouts on the first half of the disc include Greg Pope's creative "Not When I Need It," Chris Richards & the Subtractions' tender "Someone to Pull the Trigger," simple friend's delightful baroque pop-mining "Sick of Myself," Michael Simmons' faithful take on "Heaven and Earth" and The Hangabouts' expert reworking of "When I Feel Again." The latter half of the rewarding 27-track collection includes a rocking take on Sweet's beloved 1991 hit "Girlfriend" courtesy of Michael Carpenter, Nick Piunti's contagious "Behind The Smile," and Arvidson & Butterflies' dashing "Byrdsong." Tell me more: Yours truly is anxious to see the new Disney-Marvel superhero film "Black Panther," not only because of the parade of strong reviews but because I've been thoroughly enjoying Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson's score for the box office smash. Some of the selections are weighted in favor of traditional African percussion and vocal styles (the exhilarating "Wakanda Origins," luxurious "Wakanda," genre-defying "Wake Up T'Challa"), while others draw comparisons with Hans Zimmer's modernistic blend of symphonic and rock elements (the edgy "Royal Talon Fighter," sweeping "A New Day"). Overall, the music here is dramatic and provides an exciting listening experience. Information: Disney.com.

Title: Hangman: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Varèse Sarabande Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Dead Can Dance, Hans Zimmer
Tell me more: Although the film "Hangman" didn't score well with critics, the original motion picture for the American crime thriller is first rate and well worth discovering. Composer Frederik Wiedmann has crafted an especially potent work presented via 21 tracks on a single disc. The self-titled theme is bolstered by a strong sense of urgency; "Suicide Attempt" - featuring the haunting soprano of Ayana Haviv - recalls vocalist Lisa Gerrard's memorable work with Dead Can Dance. Other tracks such as the unsettling "Underneath The Cross," lovely "An Old Case," spellbinding "Archer" and tense "No Rest" bristle with sonic firepower. Information: VareseSarabande.com.

Superfly and A.C. Entertainment are excited to confirm that U2 will appear at Bonnaroo this year. It will be the legendary band's exclusive first-ever headline appearance at an American festival. They will  be performing a set that will include the career-defining 1987 release The Joshua Tree in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the classic album.

Bonnaroo will announce the full 2017 lineup and

put all tickets on sale this Wednesday, January 11 at 8 a.m. ET.

U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 will kick off in Vancouver on May 12^th for a run of dates across North America and Europe, and will include U2's first ever U.S. festival headline appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival this summer, as well as a hometown show in Dublin's Croke Park on July 22^nd.

Tickets for the U2: The Joshua Tree Tour 2017 are on sale Monday, January 16^th in Ireland, the UK and Europe and Tuesday, January 17^thin the U.S. and Canada. As usual, there is an exclusive priority presale for U2 Subscribers at U2.com from Wednesday, January 11^th (9am) through Friday, January 13^th (5pm) local times. Tickets will be general admission on the floor and reserved seating in the stands. There will be a 4 ticket limit for subscriber purchases and a 6 ticket limit commencing with public sales. In North America, all floor tickets will be paperless unless otherwise noted.
