Dawes to release Limited Edition Vinyl of "We’re All Gonna Live" for Small Business Saturday, November 25, 2017

Very exciting news here, especially for those who are in Southern California and can get to Long Beach on Saturday afternoon, November 25, 2017. Read on for all the details about Dawes' next release...

DAWES TEAM UP WITH RECORD STORES AND RECORD STORE DAY TO RELEASE LIMITED EDITION VINYL OF WE’RE ALL GONNA LIVE FOR SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY®, NOVEMBER 25th

BAND ANNOUNCES INSTORE PERFORMANCE AT FINGERPRINTS MUSIC IN CELEBRATION OF SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Dawes will release a limited-edition double LP pressing of We’re All Gonna Live, the first official live concert recording from the band, via their own HUB Records, on November 25th to celebrate Small Business Saturday. The album was manufactured in conjunction with Furnace Record Pressing and will be available at participating independently owned record stores. Dawes recorded the fifteen-song We’re All Gonna Live during the first four shows of their 2017 “An Evening With Dawes” tour, and the album contains live versions of fan favorites and new originals including “When The Tequila Runs Out,” “Roll With The Punches,” “A Little Bit of Everything,” “Things Happen,” and “All Your Favorite Bands” (full track list below). Listen to We’re All Gonna Live here.

The band will appear at Long Beach’s Fingerprints Music record store for an intimate in-store performance and signing on November 25, 2017 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tickets are available on a first come first serve basis to customers who pre-order or purchase the album at the store, and you can find more information here. Lead singer Taylor Goldsmith also recorded a video for Record Store Day about the importance of independent record stores and the band’s involvement in Small Business Saturday, saying: “When you come to a record store that is a small business, they’re going to really care about what you’re looking for, and what you identify with. You’re supporting people that care as much about music as you do to continue that love of music. In a lot of ways we like to perceive ourselves as a small business, as owners of our label, and so to get to be part of Small Business Saturday and celebrate that in anyway is obviously exciting for us.” Watch the video here.

The band is currently on the road opening for Kings of Leon and will play their final two dates opening for the band in Mexico City this week. Additionally, Dawes has upcoming dates on their headlining “Evening With Dawes” North American tour, with stops in Macon, GA and Charleston, SC. Tickets for all these shows are on sale now and can be purchased here.

Dawes consists of Taylor Goldsmith (guitar, vocals), Wylie Gelber (bass), Griffin Goldsmith (drums, vocals, percussion) and Lee Pardini (keyboards, vocals). Dawes has toured extensively playing headline shows worldwide and major festival appearances including Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, Lollapalooza and Newport Folk Festival. 'August: Osage County' soundtrack set for release on Tuesday, Jan. 7

Well, tomorrow we see the first of the official 2014 releases. In addition to the Peter Gabriel And I'll Scratch Yours set for release on Jan. 7, here are details related to another notable release courtesy of a media release that landed in my inbox early this morning...

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK OF “AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY
TO BE RELEASED ON JANUARY 7, 2014

A NEW SONG BY JD AND THE STRAIGHT SHOT, TRACKS BY BON IVER, ERIC CLAPTON, KINGS OF LEON
& BILLY SQUIER, COMPOSITIONS BY GUSTAVO SANTAOLALLA

Sony Music is proud to announce the release of the original motion picture soundtrack of August: Osage County, featuring songs specially written for the film by Kings of Leon and by JD and the Straight Shot, as well as celebrated songs by Bon Iver, Eric Clapton and Billy Squier. These tracks are backed up by new music composed by Gustavo Santaolalla and others.  The original motion picture soundtrack of August: Osage County is available on January 7, 2014.

The songs on the album make up an irresistible compilation. “Last Mile Home” by Kings of Leon, a soulful track with an understated guitar accompaniment, was specially written for the film by the band. The acoustic version of it was used for the end titles and the track featured on the album.  The simple, moving “Violet’s Song” by JD and the Straight Shot was also recorded for the movie, and as a special treat the soundtrack includes the pleasure of hearing the actor Benedict Cumberbatch perform as a singer (“Can’t Keep It Inside”). The album opens with eerie electronic echoings in “Himmon TX” by Bon Iver, with the smoky voice of the indie group’s frontman Justin Vernon. The third track is an absolute classic of country blues, “Lay Down Sally” from Eric Clapton’s album Slow Hand. A further well-known number is Billy Squiers’ hard-rock “The Stroke”. These veterans are joined by an up-and-coming star: the American singer-songwriter John Fullbright showcases his drawly Oklahoma vowels in the laid-back but energised “Gawd Above”.

To accompany these songs Gustavo Santaolalla and others have composed atmospheric film music. The multi-talented Santaolalla is best known for his work writing movie scores and producing albums. He has won two Academy Awards for Best Original Score, for his work on Babel and Brokeback Mountain, and two Grammy Awards as an album producer. He is also the founder of the electrorock-tango band Bajofondo, whose latest album, Presente, was recently released by Sony Music Masterworks. Of his  compositions for August: Osage County, the longest is the “End Credits” track, melodious and fittingly subdued music in which orchestral strings underlay twangy guitar chords. Santaolalla wrote two further pieces for the album. In addition, four short compositions by Adam Taylor highlight the pensive aspects of the movie, and to round everything off there is a brief but groovy hidden track by the Grammy-winning film and TV composer Mateo Messina.

August: Osage County is the much-anticipated movie version of an award-winning play with an all-star cast, including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard and Misty Upham. This calls for a high-class soundtrack, a call which has been met by combining superb songs – both fine new releases and classics by famous performers – with excellent compositions by Gustavo Santaolalla, Adam Taylor and Mateo Messina.

About the film
AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY tells the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them. Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play of the same name made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run and was the winner of five Tony Awards in 2008, including Best Play. AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY is directed by John Wells (THE COMPANY MEN).

VINCE GILL AND PAUL FRANKLIN PAY TRIBUTE TO THE “BAKERSFIELD SOUND” BY RELEASING BAKERSFIELD ON JULY 30

GILL AND FRANKLIN PAY HOMAGE TO BUCK OWENS AND MERLE HAGGARD
WITH TEN SONG SET

Bakersfield_Cvr_5x5_300cmyk

Nashville, TN – MCA Recording and 20 Grammy Award-winning artist Vince Gill and famed steel guitarist, Paul Franklin, are proud to announce the release of Bakersfield on July 30 via MCA Nashville. Gill and Franklin pay tribute to the “Bakersfield” sound by performing songs from two of Bakersfield’s sons; Buck Owens and Merle Haggard.

Gill and Franklin share the producing duties on the ten song set that makes up Bakersfield. Bakersfield was tracked in two days at Gill’s home studio, backed by a stellar band made up of John Hobbs, piano; Greg Morrow, drums; Willie Weeks and Brad Albin, bass; J. T. Corenflos, electric rhythm guitar; and Time Jumpers Kenny Sears, Larry Franklin, Joe Spivey, fiddles and Dawn Sears on harmony vocals.  Gill played all the acoustic and electric guitar fills and solos.

“This is just as much a guitar record for me as it is a singing record,” Gill says, “But it was fun for me to sing a whole record of the greatest songs ever. I guess what I’m real proud of is that when it’s one of Buck’s songs, I sing it very much in that vein. And the Haggard songs are very much in the vein he sang.  With Buck’s songs, you won’t find much vibrato in my vocals, and with Merle’s, it will come down to a low note and that quiver.”
“This may be Vince’s greatest project,” Franklin declares.  “What a showcase!  I’ve heard him sing for 30 years, but he sings licks on this record I never heard before.”

Merle Haggard who writes the albums liner notes says “Vince and Paul offer a great new touch on a great old sound. It was great, certainly to hear my music done with the great touch of Vince and Paul.  I feel highly complimented.  But it was especially great to hear what they did with Bucks stuff.  Some may not notice, but I for one knew how great Buck really was, first as a musician, then as an artist.”

The iconic singer/songwriter adds, “I can only give the entire project a big ole double, thumbs up!  Well done guys, the West Coast takes a bow.”

KINGS OF LEON CONFIRM NEW ALBUM,
MECHANICAL BULLOUT SEPTEMBER 24

RCA Records announces the September 24 release of the new Kings of Leon record, Mechanical Bull. Angelo Petraglia produced the album, which was recorded at the band's studio in Nashville, TN. Jimmy Fallon made a video to announce the new record and it can be viewed HERE.

Kings of Leon are fresh off three acclaimed headlining performances at American festivals, Bottle Rock in Napa, CA, Hangout in Gulf Shores, AL, and, most recently, this past weekend's Governor's Ball in New York City, during which the festival cancelled the band's Friday night performance due to Tropical Storm Andrea. The band, upset over the cancellation, worked through the night with festival organizers and management to figure out a way to come back on Saturday. The festival found a place for them on the main stage right before the Saturday headliner, during which the fans were treated to the live premiere of Mechanical Bull's first single, "Supersoaker."

The Kings left for England early Sunday morning. They start their European tour at London's O2 on Wednesday, June 12.
