AUGUST 29, 2023 (Los Angeles, CA) -- The Cranberries’ monumental third album To The Faithful Departed will be reissued as a deluxe edition on vinyl and CD on October 13, 2023 via Island/UMe. Selling more than six million copies worldwide and reaching Number One in six countries, it became the band’s highest-charting album on the U.S. Billboard Top 200. “I hadn't heard these tracks for a long time but have spent many days over the past year or so listening intently to these songs,” remembers drummer Fergal Lawler. With the tragic passing of powerhouse vocalist Dolores O’Riordan in 2018, his remembrance of the recording is bittersweet. “As difficult as it was to hear Dolores' voice, they brought back many fond memories. I was shocked at how powerful they sounded and the strong emotions that I felt as I listened." Originally released on April 30, 1996, the album yielded four singles including the U.S. Number One Modern Rock single “Salvation.” In this deluxe reissue, the original album has been remastered by John Dent at Metropolis. Available in its original configuration as 1LP, an expanded 2LP set, and a 3CD set (whose tracklisting the digital version mirrors), To The Faithful Departed deluxe editions contain an abundance of bonus tracks and material. The 2LP and 3CD configurations include three previously unreleased album demos recorded with Tim Palmer in Paris. The sleeve notes by Eoin Devereux includes contributions from the remaining band members as well as archived material which includes interviews with Dolores.

"When we were on tour for our second album No Need to Argue, we began discussions about recording the next album,” recalls Lawler about the record’s origins. “We had spoken to Island Records about the possibility of trying a new producer and they suggested Tim Palmer who had worked with Tears for Fears. So we decided to demo some new songs with him. We had a few days off in Paris and we recorded 'When You're Gone', 'Free to Decide' and 'I Just Shot John Lennon.' Tim was a lovely guy and the recordings sounded great but we felt he was a little similar in style to Steven Street [who had produced the band’s previous two albums] and we wanted to try something different. We had been touring a lot and wanted more of a live sound.” Switching gears, they chose Bruce Fairbairn who was known for working with hard rock bands such as Aerosmith, AC/DC and Van Halen. “When the tour finished, we took a short break and met with Bruce and his genius engineer Mike Plotnikoff in Windmill Lane studio in Dublin,” he continues. “It was a very different experience for both ourselves and Bruce, he was used to working with heavy rock bands and we were used to working with Steven [Street], but it worked out really well. Bruce and Mike managed to capture that big, live sound we were looking for at that time, especially on songs like 'Salvation', 'Hollywood' and 'Electric Blue' but they also did a fantastic job on softer songs like 'When you're Gone', 'The Rebels' and 'Bosnia.'” The digital and 3CD set includes unreleased outtakes and early mixes of the studio album and twelve rare live tracks recorded on the band’s 1996 “Free to Decide.”

Today marks what would have been Cranberries singer-songwriter Dolores O'Riordan's 50th birthday; the talented artist passed away in January 2018. Livestream to discuss and memorialize the late singer with 15 track compilation and world premiere of “NEVER GROW OLD” video 

In celebration and remembrance of the late Dolores O’Riordan on 6th September 2021 which would have been her 50th birthday, UMe / Island Records in association with and with the support of the remaining members of The Cranberries and the estate of the late Dolores O’Riordan will be releasing a specially curated 15-track streaming-only compilation of songs from the band’s robust eight album catalogue.   Compiled with the utmost care and love for the beloved vocalist and songwriter, “Remembering Dolores” is a collection of songs carefully selected by friends, family and remaining band members Fergal Lawler, and brothers Mike Hogan and Noel Hogan that carry special meaning and significance to Dolores. In a joint statement, Fergal, Mike and Noel said “To mark the occasion, we have, together with some of Dolores’ closest friends and family, chosen a special playlist of 15 songs from our catalogue, songs that remind each of us in differing ways and for differing reasons of Dolores, and rather than choose songs from the hits, we decided to choose from some of our favourite lesser-known songs”. Taken from their second album No Need To Argue and released in September 1994, the official video for The Cranberries track “Zombie” has just passed 1 billion views on YouTube, breaking records as the first Irish band to hit this milestone. The Cranberries now join a small club of iconic artists to reach this landmark and the video is the fifth most viewed rock video of all time globally according to Louder Sound.
 
Written by Dolores O’Riordan as a protest song after IRA bombings in Warrington killed two children and injured 56 others in March 1993, “Zombie” was recorded at Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin and was produced by long time Cranberries collaborator Stephen Street (The Smiths, Blur). Containing the lyrics “But you see, it's not me. It's not my family,” the band were adamant “Zombie” should be the lead single from their new album and resisted the suggestion to go with a less political track, such was their commitment to the song. The official video directed by Samuel Bayer – who now notches his second billion viewed clip following Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ – shows original footage of Northern Irish street scenes with children playing war games during The Troubles, including the now famous political and historical murals. In the video a gilded Dolores O’Riordan stands before a giant cross wearing a crown of thorns surrounded by silver cherubs, with cutaway shots of the band performing live outdoors.

Fergal Lawler, The Cranberries drummer said of the achievement, “We are so delighted with the news that ‘Zombie’ has reached 1 billion views on YouTube. We are sure Dolores has a big, proud smile on her face too. Noel Hogan, The Cranberries guitarist continues, “For ‘Zombie’ to reach 1 billion views has been a long road and another milestone for the band. Their most commercially successful single, “Zombie” went on to top the singles charts in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland and was #1 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart in the US. In 1995 it was awarded ‘Best Song’ at the MTV Europe Music Awards, and was voted #1 on Australia’s Triple J Hottest 100 chart in 1994. On January 16^th2018, Colin Parry - father of Tim Parry, the twelve year old victim of the Warrington bomb - thanked Dolores O’Riordan for the ‘majestic and (also) very real lyrics” in the track.

The Cranberries have released the first single (titled "All Over Now") from the forthcoming album 'In The End,' which is due on Friday, April 26, 2019. It's a terrific song and fully captures the wistful power and beauty of the Irish group's sound. It is wonderful to hear Dolores O'Riordan glorious vocals. Below is the official media release...

Thirty years after forming in Limerick (initially as The Cranberry Saw Us) The Cranberries are set to release their 8th and final album In The End. With Stephen Street once again taking producer duties, the eleven-track record brings a remarkable career to a fitting and powerful closure. Announcing the album, the band has shared the first single "All Over Now" that blends rock, alternative and catchy almost pop-sounding melodies to deliver a classic Cranberries sound.

The Cranberries - Dolores O'Riordan, Noel Hogan, Mike Hogan and Fergal Lawler - emerged from the pre-Brit-pop scene of the early '90s, with their trademark indie guitar sound and Dolores' distinctive Celtic-tinged lilting vocal style - described by Melody Maker as "the voice of a saint trapped in a glass harp". Their rise to global fame was nothing short of meteoric; best known for their now classic songs "Linger", "Zombie" and "Dreams", the band have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.

While it is tinged with sadness following Dolores' unexpected death on January 15th, 2018, In The End is not a valediction, it is a celebration, one that stands as a powerful testimony to the life and creative work of Dolores and her brothers in music Noel, Mike and Fergal.

The genesis of In The End began in May 2017 while the band were on tour. By winter of 2017 Noel and Dolores had written and demoed the eleven songs that would eventually appear on the album. "Dolores was so energized by the prospect of making this record and to getting back out on the road to play the songs live," recalls Noel.

In coming to terms with her tragic passing Noel, Mike and Fergal listened to the songs and, with the support of Dolores' family, wanted to honor their close friend, and collaborator by completing the record.

Speaking about the band's concerns at the time Noel said, "we knew this had to be one of the, if not the, best Cranberries album that we could possibly do. The worry was that we would destroy the legacy of the band by making an album that wasn't up to standard. Once we had gone through all the demos that Dolores and I had worked on and decided that we had such a strong album we knew it would be the right thing and the best way that we could honour Dolores."

With the songs at various stages of completion they turned to Stephen Street - who had produced four of their previous albums including Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We? and No Need To Argue - and spent 4 weeks in a London studio building the sounds around her vocals from the original demos. "It was a bitter sweet time. The joy of recording new tracks is always exciting and one of the best parts of being in a band. At the end of every day when we'd laid down our parts there was a sense of sadness, knowing that Dolores wouldn't be in that evening to work on that day's track," remembers Noel.

The album is a strong goodbye from the band to their fans, a fitting tribute to their bandmate and friend and, most importantly, a collection of powerful songs that can take their rightful place with The Cranberries' previous six records.

Speaking about the single and the album Dolores' mother said, "I miss her awfully, specially today, as does the entire family. That said I can't think of a more fitting way to commemorate the first anniversary of her passing and to celebrate her life than to announce to the world the release of her final album with the band. She was very excited about this new album and was really looking forward to its release. I have no doubt that she is happy now and would be delighted with today's announcement."
