Sights and sounds: Counting Crows, Johnny Cash tribute, Jenny Lewis

Lots of news, notes and links to share! Let's jump right in…

Counting Crows will release its seventh studio album Somewhere Under Wonderland on Sept. 2, 2014 via Capitol Records. The song "Palisades Park" is available now on iTunes with the purchase of the full album here. A short film of the song, directed by Bill Fishman, is also available and can be viewed here. For more information on the album, including to see the full track listing, visit counting crows.com.

Fifty years after its release, the Johnny Cash album Bitter Tears: Ballads of the American Indian is going to be revisited via an illustrious line up of many of Americana's greatest living artists. Look Again To The Wind: Johnny Cash's Bitter Tears Revisited will be released by Sony Music Masterworks on Aug. 19. Among the artists to be featured in new versions of songs from Cash's 1964 collection are Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, Milk Carton Kids and more. Providing the instrumental backing for most of the album are Greg Leisz (steel guitar, guitars), Keefus Ciancia (keyboards), Patrick Warren (keyboards), Jay Bellerose (drums) and Dave Piltch (bass). Singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis has released the title track off of her forthcoming album The Voyager. In addition, Lewis has also added new August dates to her tour, which began on Sunday in Toronto and continues through the end of October.

Her third solo album, The Voyager has been described as "her best solo effort to date" by American Songwriter and will be released on Warner Bros. Records on July 29, 2014.  The first single, "Just One Of The Guys," was labeled a "breezy, catchy single about not fitting in with the boys' club" by Rolling Stone and is available as an instant download if you pre-order the album.
