With career sales of more than 175 million records and their long-term membership in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons have inspired fans and enlightened the music world for more than 60 years.

For the first time ever, Madfish/Snapper Music presents the complete music of one of America's greatest musical exports. A group who sang about the everyday tragedies and victories that they shared with their audience. A group of thee people, for the people.

Rhythm and blues was barely even pregnant with rock 'n' roll when a Jersey boy named Francesco Stephen Castelluccio  aka Frankie Valli  took his first teenage steps in music.

Working Our Way Back to You
chronicles his every stride through a career of 195 singles and 31 studio albums across 44 audio CDs and 1 LP (the latter a stunning multi-foldout reproduction of the original US packaging of The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette vinyl album, in its original mono mix, available here for the first time ever).

The package includes an extraordinary assemblage of unreleased treats (demos/alternate takes), rare treasures (vintage live recordings) and long-unavailable mixes, including much sought after tracks the group cut for Motown. The box set also includes a 144-page hardback book, a separate singles book showing a multitude of picture sleeves from around the world, and a book of Collectors notes (the latter penned by Four Seasons Appreciation Society's Ken Charmer).

The hardback book, authored by lifelong Four Seasons fan Paul Sexton (presenter and producer of BBC Radio 2's four-part series "Jerseybeat: The Four Seasons Story" in 2008) follows the group's story from humble New Jersey beginnings to the opening of the award-winning Jersey Boys musical on Broadway. Also included are more than 50,000 words of interviews by New York Times Best Selling author Ken Sharp with Four Seasons members Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, Tommy DeVito, Joe Long, Lee Shapiro and John Paiva, producer/collaborator Bob Crewe, arranger Charles Calello, key songwriters and session players.

The full list of contents is as follows:

  • 44 audio CDs documenting a career from 1961 to 2016 featuring 31 newly-remastered studio albums and all of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' worldwide singles
  • More than 800 tracks including bonus live albums, demos, outtakes, B-sides and more
  • A replica triple foldout US-only sleeve issue of The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette LP (available for the first time ever on mono vinyl)
  • A lavish hardback coffee table book that tells the full story of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons by long-time Seasons expert Paul Sexton, including extensive interviews conducted by New York Times Best Selling author Ken Sharp and written contributions from Brian Wilson, Barry & Maurice Gibb, and Billy Joel
  • A portfolio chronicling single & EP sleeves from around the world, including chart placings
  • A Collectors Note Book from Four Seasons Archivist Ken Charmer
  • Compiled with the full cooperation and support of Frankie Valli and Bob Gaudio

Praise for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons:

“I thought they were fantastic. The voice blend was fantastic. The competition helped me to get cracking. It inspired me.” -Brian Wilson

I've always loved Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons. Everything they did made an intense impression on me from ‘Rag Doll’ to ‘Big Girls Don't Cry’ to ‘Walk Like A Man’ to ‘Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You.’ At the time of The Beatles, Frankie Valli's voice reigned as the voice you would hear when you fell in love.”-Barry Gibb

“Frankie Valli is a fantastic singer. He was doing falsetto long before any of us were doing it. It was just another way of using another instrument for your songs.”-Maurice Gibb

To me in a way they were the Beatles before there was a Beatles. They wrote their own stuff. They sang their own stuff and they played their own instruments. This was an incredibly huge band of my youth. There were a lot of life lessons in their music.”-Billy Joel

They made some of the greatest records ever. They were the biggest productions right there with Phil Spector and Motown.”- Stevie Van Zandt

SLASH partners with the International Fund for Animal Welfare

SLASH--the iconic American rock guitarist, songwriter and film producer-today (May 7) announced the release of the song and video"Beneath The Savage Sun."

SLASH has partnered with International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to raise awareness of the slaughter of elephants which is leading to their early extinction. To watch the video and get the song for free, DONATE (HERE) and TAKE ACTION (HERE). The U.S.-based charityIFAW works around the world on every aspect of the elephant crisis-on the front lines to stop the killing of elephants, in transit countries to stop the trafficking of ivory and in consumer countries to stop the demand for ivory products. For more information, visit: www.ifaw.org.

While on tour in South Africa, SLASH and the lead singer of his bandMYLES KENNEDY witnessed the devastation of the elephants first-hand and knew they had to act. Together, they wrote the song "Beneath The Savage Sun" from the perspective of an elephant whose family has been wiped out. The hypnotic rock song is a highlight on the group's critically acclaimed current album WORLD ON FIRE.

"An elephant is killed every 15 minutes for its ivory and the result is the elephant population has declined 95% in the past century," explainsSLASH. "Seeing that these majestic animals are on the path to extinction, possibly within the next decade, we wrote 'Beneath The Savage Sun' and partnered with IFAW. Donate to IFAW's work to take action and protect elephants."

IFAW's CEO Azzedine Downes expressed gratitude to SLASH and MYLES KENNEDY for calling attention to the current elephant poaching crisis, "To save elephants from this senseless slaughter, we need everyone to stand up and demand stronger protection and we need to help fund action on the ground in Africa and Asia. We are grateful to Slash, Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators for reaching out to their fans to share this important message."

SLASH and his band Featuring Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators are currently in the midst of a U.S. headlining tour which stops at Terminal 5 in New York City, tonight. The month-long tour--encompassing headlining shows and festival appearances--is the first solo trek supporting the group's acclaimed studio album WORLD ON FIRE which is SLASH's third straight solo album to debut in the Top Ten in the U.S and the second album with his official band The Conspirators which features MYLES KENNEDY (vocals), BRENT FITZ (drums), TODD KERNS (bass) and FRANK SIDORIS (touring guitarist). Audio Fidelity To Release Billy Joel's Critically Acclaimed Third Album “Streetlife Serenade” On 4.0 Quad Multichannel Hybrid SACD

“A classic album by one of rock's foremost piano men”

Much to the excitement of Billy Joel fans worldwide, Marshall Blonstein's Audio Fidelity will be releasing Streetlife Serenade on 4.0 Quad Multichannel Hybrid SACD. Billy Joel is an incomparable musician, having sold more than 150 million records, he ranks as one of the most popular recording artists and respected entertainers in the world. Streetlife Serenade is Joel's third studio album originally released in 1974. This album usually gets overlooked when discussing Billy Joel's career, but all these years later, Streetlife Serenade may rank as one of his finest efforts. Joel keeps things lively and diversified from song to song. “The Great Suburban Showdown” and “Last of the Big Time Spenders” have an openly spaced, laid-back western vibe, not unlike what the Eagles were doing during their 1970s heyday. The spunky instrumentals “Root Beer Rag” and “The Mexican Connection” show off Joel's formidable piano-playing skills and are pure fun. “Weekend Song” is an awesomely rugged rocker and the quirky hit “The Entertainer” is sheer pop genius, both lyrically and sonically.

This was the last album that Billy Joel recorded with the singer-songwriter style. Most of the compositions look back intimately at Joel's life. The album has great arrangements and rhythms and lyrics that tell a story with feeling and hints that he had enough with California, enough with the music industry, enough with being a sensitive artist. It was time for Billy to say goodbye to Hollywood and head back home to New York.

Tracks:
Streetlife Serenader
Los Angelenos
The Great Suburban Showdown
Root Beer Rag
Roberta
The Entertainer
Last of the Big Time Spenders
Weekend Song
Souvenir
The Mexican Connection

Producer: Michael Stewart & Billy Joel

Sights and sounds: Toto, George Michael, Billy Joel

Here is a roundup of news and notes that have landed in my inbox this morning...

Toto has a new collection coming on April 29, 2014.
Toto and Eagle Rock Entertainment have announced a April 29, 2014 release date for the band's 35 Anniversary Tour - Live In Poland. The title will be available in configurations that include 2-CD, DVD, Blu-ray and a deluxe edition featuring all formats with a 60-page book.

Filmed on June 25, 2013 in Lodz, Poland, the offering captures the band in the midst of a standing-room-only European tour. The two-hour plus performance features Toto's hit stocked repertoire alongside other favorites.  The complete track listing is: Intro,  Medley: "On The Run" / "Child's Anthem" / "Goodbye Eleanor," "Goin' Home," "Hydra," "St. George And The Dragon," "I'll Be Over You," "It's A Feeling," "Rosanna," "Wings Of Time," "Falling In Between," "I Won't Hold You Back," "Pamela," "99," "The Muse," "White Sister," "Better World," "Africa," "How Many Times," "Stop Loving You," "Hold The Line," and "Home Of The Brave."  The set also includes behind-the-scenes bonus content.  Eagle Rock Entertainment has premiered the band's performance of "Hold The Line" which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibxxkNRumN4.
The 35TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR - LIVE IN POLAND release captures Toto's  European tour that hit 29 cities staging successful concerts Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.  Toto World Tour 2013 featured Steve Lukather, David Paich, Steve Porcaro on keyboards, and singer Joseph Williams, who sang the hits "Pamela" and "Stop Loving You" on the worldwide platinum release The Seventh One (1988).   Williams is also featured on the platinum certified Fahrenheit (1986), Toto XX (1998), the track "Bottom of Your Soul" on Falling In Between (2006), and the multi-platinum release Past to Present 1977-1990 issued in 1990.
Toto has revealed plans for 2014 that deliver what fans have been waiting years for.  The band will record a new studio album planned for release in 2015, their first since Falling In Between (2006).  Keyboardist and founding member David Paich recently shared, "The repertoire is coming together so naturally it is as though we never took a break from creating as Toto in the studio. For the fans who have been waiting patiently and continually showing the band support and love over the last decade or so, this one's for you. Collectively we can't wait to share these recordings with The World."
This April, they return to Japan for a seven show headlining sold-out arena tour that takes them through Nagoya, Osaka, Tokyo, Sendai and Sopporo.  In August and September, Toto will hit the road as co-headliners with Michael McDonald, for their most comprehensive North American tour in years.

With over 35 years together and thousands of credits and accolades to their names, Toto remains one of the top selling tour and recording acts in the world. They are the benchmark by which many artists base their sound and production, and they continue to transcend the standards set by the entire music community, being simply synonymous with musical credibility.
Band members have been South Park characters, while recently Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake offered a light-hearted homage via a comedy sketch around the band's hit  "Africa."  They are pop culture, and are one of the few 70’s bands that have endured the changing trends and styles, and more than 35 years in to a career enjoy a multi-generational fan base.
TOTO also continues to raise awareness for ALS, for their brother and friend, Mike Porcaro, who has been diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease.  The band commits energies towards fundraising for Police and Fire Departments of California and the Fallen Heroes initiative (http://www.fallenheroes.org/), and help the United Nations in their humanitarian endeavors through music. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings' cover of "Goldfinger" is exclusive to the soundtrack and was recorded at Daptone House of Soul in Brooklyn. Cast as a wedding band, Jones & the Dap-Kings can be seen performing the track in the film. In The Wolf of Wall Street, revered filmmaker Martin Scorsese directs the story of New York stockbroker Jordan Belfort (Leonardo DiCaprio). From the American dream to corporate greed, Belfort goes from penny stocks and righteousness to IPOs and a life of corruption in the late 80s and early 90s.  Excess success and affluence in his early twenties as founder of the brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont warranted Belfort the title - "The Wolf of Wall Street."  Named as one of the Top 10 films of the year by critics at Rolling Stone and The New YorkerThe Wolf of Wall Street was nominated for a Golden Globe® award for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy and DiCaprio was nominated for Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy for his role as Belfort.

See below for the complete track listing.
Randall Poster is the Music Supervisor for the soundtrack. The Wolf of Wall Street marks the third film on which Poster has worked with director Scorsese. The two worked together on The Aviator and Hugo and Mr. Scorsese also asked Poster to oversee the music on the award winning "Boardwalk Empire" for HBO. Poster won a GRAMMY® Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media for producing Volume 1 of the "Boardwalk Empire" soundtrack.
Robbie Robertson - who has collaborated with Scorsese on numerous films, including Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Color Of Money, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Departed and Shutter Island - served as Executive Music Producer of the soundtrack. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and winner of a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, Robertson was the primary songwriter for The Band, penning Americana classics like "The Weight" and "Up on Cripple Creek." Scorsese's The Last Waltz documented The Band's farewell concert.
Paramount Pictures and Red Granite Pictures present an Appian Way and Sikelia Production and an Emjag Production of a Martin Scorsese film. The Wolf of Wall Street stars Leonardo DiCaprio alongside Jonah Hill, Margot Robbie, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, Rob Reiner, Jon Favreau, and Jean Dujardin. The film is directed by Martin Scorsese, from a screenplay by Terence Winter, based upon the book by Jordan Belfort, and produced by Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Riza Aziz, Joey McFarland and Emma Koskoff.
