A very happy birthday to Ringo Starr. The famed Beatles drummer, actor, writer, photographer and peace proponent turns 85 today!. You can read my coverage of a special event back in 2011 where I got to meet Starr when he celebrated his friend Klaus Voormann...Robert Kinsler
RINGO CELEBRATES HIS BIRTHDAY WITH HIS ANNUAL PEACE & LOVE CAMPAIGN, CREATING A WAVE OF PEACE AND LOVE OVER THE PLANET AND TO THE MOON AND BACK (LITERALLY) ON JULY 7 2025
“PEACE & LOVE” TRIBUTES COMING IN FROM 38 COUNTRIES AROUND THE WORLD
RINGO’S PEACE AND LOVE MESSAGE WILL ALSO BE SENT TO THE MOON AND BACK BY INTUITIVE MACHINES VIA GOONHILLY EARTH STATION AND THE
ARTEMIS SPACE PROGRAM WILL SEND IT TO THE ISS AS IT ORBITS THE PLANET, BROADCASTING THE MESSAGE INTO THE UNIVERSE

MEANWHILE BACK ON EARTH… LUCIUS AND MOLLY TUTTLE WITH COLIN LINDEN, DAVID MANSFIELD, DENNIS CROUCH, AND SPECIAL GUESTS TO PERFORM MUSICAL TRIBUTES,
T BONE BURNETT TO MC
On Monday, July 7th, Ringo Starr and his wife Barbara Starkey will be joined for his birthday celebration by family and friends, including Joe and Marjorie Walsh, Fred Armisen, Glen Ballard, Ed Begley Jr, Gregg Bissonette, Jackson Browne, T Bone Burnett, Dennis Crouch, Warren Ham, Colin Hay, Jim Keltner, Colin Linden, Lucius, Steve Lukather, David Mansfield, Richard Marx, Blake Mills, Sam Phillips, Asa & Roy Orbison Jr, Linda Perry, Matt Sorum, Hamish Stuart, Molly Tuttle, Diane Warren, and more.
They will gather together in Los Angeles for Ringo’s annual Peace & Love Birthday event, and at Noon give the traditional “Peace and Love” exclamation.
The festivities will kick off with musicians that include Lucius and Molly Tuttle with Colin Linden, David Mansfield, Dennis Crouch, Gregg Bissonette and special guests celebrating Ringo’s music with tribute performances. T Bone Burnett will serve as Master of Ceremonies.
Ringo’s message of Peace & Love will again be broadcast to the universe when it is beamed up to the Moon and back to Earth, courtesy of Intuitive Machines through their transmission partner Goonhilly Earth Station in the United Kingdom. This is the same ground infrastructure Intuitive Machines uses to support commercial spaceflight and Goonhilly is a key part of the global ground station strategy, supporting space navigation, communications, control, and tracking. Using Goonhilly’s GHY-6 deep space antenna, they will transmit Ringo’s message in intervals to the Moon where it bounces off the lunar surface and is returned to Earth by Goonhilly’s GHY-3 antenna.
Then, at 12 Noon LA Time, Ringo will give the command to the mission control team in Houston and his message of Peace and Love will be sent to the International Space Station (ISS), facilitated by the Artemis Music and Modern Musician. The signals will travel from a mission control room in Houston, Texas, to NASA ground stations where they will be beamed up to the ISS to orbit the Earth and continue on 'across the universe' toward distant stars.
In addition to Ringo’s message, Matt Sorum and Adopt the Arts created two unforgettable tributes that showcase his legacy through the voices of future generations — and a few legendary friends: A music video of Ringo’s “Give More Love” performed by Adopt the Arts Honor Choir made up of 3rd–5th graders from four Coachella Valley elementary schools. Many come from immigrant families and diverse backgrounds, and all discovered their love of music through school programs adopted and enhanced by Adopt the Arts. The video also features cameo appearances and tributes from a stellar lineup of artists and fans sharing heartfelt birthday wishes and messages of peace and love, including: Mick Fleetwood, Stewart Copeland, Tico Torres, Liberty DeVitto, Steve Jordan, James Gadson, Sammy Hagar, Fred Armisen, Jon Batiste, Jane Lynch, Jane Seymour, John Stamos, Josh Freese, Kenny Aronoff and longtime Beatles collaborator Peter Asher.
“OK Peace & Love here we go again!” said Ringo. “Monday July the 7th is my birthday and as always we will be promoting Peace & Love. It's so great how this keeps growing - we are in 38 countries!!! And we can't forget the guys in the spaceship! I want to give thanks to the crew up in the ISS and the teams getting the message to the moon and back…Artemis, Intuitive Machines…meanwhile here on Earth, I am sending special thanks to all the Peace & Love Ambassadors for all they do in each of their countries. HISTORY & BACKGROUND OF RINGO’S ANNUAL JULY 7 PEACE & LOVE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:
Since 2008 Ringo has invited everyone everywhere to think, say or post #peaceandlove at Noon their local time on July 7th to fulfill his birthday wish of a wave of Peace and Love encircling the planet. Usually Ringo meets with fans in whatever city he is in, a tradition that began July 7, 2008 when he convened with fans and friends on the streets in front of the Hard Rock Café in Chicago, passing out cupcakes and joining the crowd for “Peace and Love” exactly at Noon. In the ensuing years it has grown enormously and in 2019 there were over 30 Peace & Love events in countries all around the world.
2020’s pandemic prevented an in-person event, and Ringo instead moved the celebration to be virtual, hosting “Ringo’s Big Birthday Show,” which featured unseen concert and unique performances by Starr, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Ben Harper and Dave Grohl, Sheryl Crow, Gary Clark Jr and Sheila E. The show was broadcast globally via AXS, YouTube and Ceek and it benefitted Black Lives Matter Global Network, The David Lynch Foundation, Musicares and WaterAid. Meanwhile the #peaceandlove posts came from near and far, with the Mars Rover and The International Space Station being the first to wish Ringo a Happy Birthday "From 260 miles above our home planet, NASA Astronauts wish Ringo Starr a happy 80th birthday! Since our orbiting laboratory operates in Greenwich Mean Time, or GMT, it’s officially July 7 – a perfect date to send #PeaceAndLove to everyone across the universe!”
2021 found Ringo celebrating with a few friends and family with a photo call at his Peace sculpture, with the world celebrating with their wave of peace and love celebrations globally.
In 2022, Ringo welcomed friends, family and the media to his Peace sculpture and over 30 Peace and Love regional events happened around the globe. In addition, Ringo’s star song - the sound the stars made when he was born - along with a recording of him saying “Peace & Love,” was beamed out into space and to the International Space Station (ISS) where it orbited around the Earth, passing over many countries and much of the Earth's population, beaming back down messages of peace and love while also traveling out to distant stars. In 2023, Ringo returned to the Peace sculpture to greet friends, family and the media while over 30 Peace and Love events kept the wave of peace and love traveling around the world. 2024 saw 34 Peace and Love celebrations around the globe and NASA continued to support by spreading the message to and from the universe and included messages of Peace & Love on their socials from across the solar system while Ringo celebrated at the Peace sculpture in Los Angeles with friends, family and media.
