Nashville-based singer-songwriter
Alice Wallace has released “Bonfire,” a new single co-written with Melody Walker of bands Front Country and Silo Sisters, along with an accompanying video. It is the latest track from her forthcoming LP, Here I Am, out June 28, 2024 via Mule Kick Records. Of the song, Wallace says, “I had been going through a rough time with a relationship, and we just imagined we were standing on a beach, burning like a beacon for someone who had sailed away and broken our hearts. Like a siren calling to a sailor in ‘The Odyssey’ -  and bonfire was born.” While Wallace’s soaring vocals take center stage in “Bonfire,” fans will recognize a nod to the yodeling she is known for.

“Bonfire” follows “Imposter,” a commentary on anxiety-driven imposter syndrome, in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, and soaring lead single “Letting It Go,” about releasing past hurts to make room for the good things to come.

Here I Am marks a return to themes of self-examination after several collections that featured predominantly story songs. The album’s title hints at her deeply personal, confessional songwriting style, one that invites the listener to gaze at her beating heart as each intimate secret pours out, propelled by a powerful, expressive delivery that marks her as one of the true vocal talents of her generation.

Wallace moved to Nashville four years ago after more than a decade in southern California;
Here I Am is the first of her albums to be recorded in true Music City style, backed by a lineup of world-class musicians and recorded in two whirlwind days with no rehearsal. Produced by Nick Buda (Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton), the album features some of the most talented musicians Nashville has to offer. In addition to Buda on drums, the record features GRAMMY-winning guitarist Kenny Greenberg (Willie Nelson, Wynonna Judd, Hayes Carll), bassist Ted Pecchio (Doyle Bramhall II, Susan Tedeschi), and keyboardist Jimmy Wallace (The Wallflowers).

Named 2017 Female Vocalist of the Year by the California Country Awards, Wallace has previously released four solo albums, the latest of which, 2019’s Into the Blue, earned recognition from Rolling Stone Country with the title track being named one of the Best Americana Songs to Hear Now, followed by Lucky Break via Side Pony, a duo project with friend Caitlin Cannon that took the pair across the United States and Europe. Her voice has been called “a powerful natural occurrence… an awe-striking wonder" (Saving Country Music).

“This is an album about reclaiming myself–as an artist, as a woman, and as a person navigating a world that is beautiful and confusing and harsh,” says Wallace. Since releasing her last LP, Wallace’s life has changed immensely - a cross-country move, a career unexpectedly halted in 2020, falling in love more deeply than before, and being heartbroken more painfully than she ever knew she could be. “All of those changes gave me a chance to examine myself in ways I never had. This album covers a spectrum of emotion I haven’t been brave enough to share on an album before,” she continues. “This album is me.”
