(November 28, 2023) Grammy-nominated Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and guitar legend ACE FREHLEY announces the release of his new studio album, 10,000 Volts, due out on February 23, 2024. Produced by Ace and Steve Brown (Trixter), the 11-track 10,000 Volts sees Ace perform electrifying, hard-hitting, riff-heavy rock'n' roll.   Today, he releases the first single and title track. Written and produced by Ace and Steve Brown, the track kicks off with a surging riff, and Ace's swaggering delivery takes hold and never lets go. It culminates on the chantable chorus, “She hit me like 10,000 volts, when I saw her face,” giving way to a fret-burning guitar solo. The accompanying visual for the single was directed by Alex Kouvatsos from Black Wolf Imaging and shows Ace and his band performing the powerful, riff-heavy track live.  Watch below:

Rock ‘n’ roll and heavy metal simply wouldn’t sound, look, or feel the same without Ace Frehley. Among hundreds of accolades, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® inducted him in 2014 as a Co-founder and the original lead guitarist of Kiss. Guitar World named him in the Top 15 of its “100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time” and plugged the lead from “Shock Me” on the “50 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time.” Magnifying the imprint of his catalog as a solo artist, Foo Fighters cut a fan favorite cover of “Ozone,” and he even jammed out “New York Groove” alongside The Roots on NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The late Dimebag Darrell of Pantera proudly sported a tattoo of Frehley on his chest, while Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine celebrated him on X/Twitter as “My first guitar hero.” 10,000 Volts upholds an incredible legacy for Frehley, spanning 50-plus years in the limelight. Back in 1978, he delivered his solo debut, Ace Frehley. It reached platinum status and exploded as “the highest-selling of the four Kiss solo albums in the Soundscan era.” Pitchfork even retrospectively rated it a rare “8.5” score. In 1987, he dropped Frehley’s Comet. Following Anomaly in 2009, he went on to make history once again. His 2014 Space Invader LP captured #9 on the Billboard 200 and emerged as “The only solo album by a past or current Kiss member to reach the Top 10 on the chart.” 2016’s Origins Vol. 1, bowed at #1 on the Billboard Top Hard Rock Albums Chart and in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart. He notably maintained his momentum with Spaceman [2018].

On Friday, February 9, 2024, Alligator Records will release Naked Truth, the first-ever solo acoustic album from world-renowned Atlanta-based guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Tinsley Ellis. The new album is steeped in the folk blues traditions of Muddy Waters, Skip James, Son House, Robert Johnson and even Leo Kottke. To the casual fan, this might seem to be a new direction, but for Ellis, it’s an extension of his music, as he taps into the raw essence of the blues. “This is a record I’ve always wanted to make, and one that my longtime fans have been asking for,” he says, noting he’s included an acoustic mini-set in his concert performances for years. In the last 12 months, Ellis has already performed over 100 solo shows, many as co-bills with his Alligator label-mate Marcia Ball. “I’m having so much fun playing these shows,” he says. On Naked Truth (his 21st album), Ellis swaps his blistering, guitar-fueled full band workouts for equally passionate, soul-searching acoustic folk blues. His famed guitar chops and musical creativity are on full display throughout the album’s 12 songs, including nine newly written originals. Naked Truth was produced by Ellis, with the foot-stomping cover of Son House’s Death Letter Blues produced by Atlanta roots musician Eddie 9V. The album was recorded live in the studio using Ellis’ beloved 1969 Martin D-35 (a gift from his father) and his 1937 National Steel O Series guitars. Whether intricately fingerpicking the Martin or playing hair-raising slide on the National Steel, Ellis delivers each song with unvarnished intimacy. The opener, Ellis’ original song, Devil In The Room, premieres today. "Devil In The Room is musically a nod to the Hill Country Blues style of Mississippi Fred McDowell and R L Burnside," says Ellis. "Lyrically it’s based on something Col. Bruce Hampton used to tell us before we went on stage to back him up. He would tell us to 'put the devil in the room!' His call to arms has stuck with me for 40 years! On Devil In The Room I’m playing in open G tuning on my 1937 National O-Series steel resonator guitar with a brass slide."

According to Ellis, "Naked Truth is both a departure and an arrival.” He has been recording and traveling the world for over four decades, delivering his feral, guitar-fueled, original electric blues-rock to ever-growing audiences at concert halls, festivals, and clubs. From the original, Skip James-inspired Windowpane to the Delta-styled Tallahassee Blues, to the humorous Grown Ass Man, Ellis goes deep, singing and playing the blues’ honest truths. New Music: Little Feat, Mark Farner, Blood Brothers

Tell me more: Originally released on DVD in 2004, Little Feat: Highwire Act in St. Louis has just been reissued as a wonderful Blu-ray+2CD collection (the concert is also available on digital video as well). The 2003 concert performance captured Little Feat in top form with the American band delivering 17 tracks blending rock, blues, soul, folk and Americana over 134 wonderful minutes. The line-up was among the ensemble's best, with Paul Barrere (guitars, vocals), Bill Payne (keyboard, vocals), Sam Clayton (percussion, vocals), Kenny Gradney (bass), Richie Hayward (drums, vocals), Fred Tackett (guitar, mandolin, trumpet) and Shaun Murphy (vocals, percussion) locked in and collectively showcasing their outstanding talents across the set. Highlights span the length of the concert, including the jazzy-rock opener "Time Loves a Hero," '70s-flavored rocker "Day Or Night," aptly-titled "Cajun Girl" bolstered by Tackett's inspired mandolin work, gorgeous Americana original "Willin'," and soulful "I'd Be Lyin'," the latter featuring Murphy's powerhouse soprano. Additionally, there are plenty of extended instrumental jams across the wonderful track listing that showcase the players' impressive musical chops to be sure. Tell me more: The "1989 Woodstock Revisited" Festival was staged at Cal State Dominguez Hills in Carson, CA in August 1989 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Woodstock. Among the celebrated classic rock favorites to perform at the event were Mark Farner, Edgar Winter, Humble Pie, Canned Heat, Melanie, and Blood, Sweat and Tears. Now Farner's complete set from that event has been issued on both audio CD and DVD. Farner — founding member, lead singer and guitarist for Michigan's Grand Funk Railroad — delivered a powerful 15-song set backed by guitarist Arnie Vilches, bassist Lawrence Buckner, keyboardist Mike Blair and drummer Mike Maple. The set list is a mix of Grand Funk Railroad's beloved hits and Farner's strong solo material. Farner is an energetic and riveting frontman who shines on the mix of material; he even trades in his electric guitar to play electronic keyboards on several cuts ("Footstompin' Music" and "Mean Mistreater"). Farner and company immerse the crowd in blues on "Judgement Day Blues," which features the notable guitar work of Farner and Vilches. The soulful "Some Kind of Wonderful" features Buckner and Farner sharing lead vocals. Other highlights of the set include the tuneful sing-along "Bad Time," ambitious "I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home," riff rocker "Heartbreaker" and festive closer "The Loco-Motion." Tell me more: Fans of scorching electric blues will want to run out and pick up a copy of Blood Brothers — Live in Canada. The ensemble featuring Mike Zito (vocals, guitar) and Albert Castiglia (vocals, guitar) delivers a fiery performance across the 12-track live recording that was captured at Blue Frog Studios in British Columbia, Canada on May 19 and 20, 2023. The blistering blues-rock opener "Hey Sweet Mama," dazzling cover of Tinsley Ellis' "Tooth and Nail," rootsy "In My Soul," and poignant countrified blues nugget "A Thousand Heartaches" are early standouts. Just as luring are the Chicago blues-styled Zito original "No Good Woman," slide guitar-adorned take on John Hiatt's "My Business" and tender "Gone To Texas." Closing out the concert CD is an explosive reading of Neil Young's especially timely "Rocking' in the Free World." The other band members heard this night (bassist Doug Byrkit, drummer-percussionist Matt Johnson, drummer-percussionist Ephraim Lowell and keyboardist Lewis Stephens) contribute mightily to the performance. Released last week to unprecedented acclaim and commercial success, and accompanied by a beautifully heartfelt music video directed by Peter Jackson, “Now And Then” has smashed all sales and streaming expectations. This last installment of The Beatles’ recorded history is poised to give The Beatles their biggest hit single in over half a century.  Since their 1973 debuts, 1962-1966 (‘The Red Album’) and 1967-1970 (‘The Blue Album’) have ushered countless listeners of all ages, from all parts of the world, into lifelong Beatles fandom, always seen as the definitive introduction to their work. Expanded for their new 2023 Edition releases, the collections together span The Beatles’ entire recorded canon with 75 standout tracks, from their first single, “Love Me Do,” to their last, “Now And Then.” The collections’ 21 newly-added tracks (twelve on ‘Red’ and nine on ‘Blue’) showcase even more of The Beatles’ very best songs.  In recent years, several 1967-1970 tracks and a few from 1962-1966 have received new stereo and Dolby Atmos mixes for The Beatles’ Special Edition album releases, including Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (2017), The Beatles (‘White Album’) (2018), Abbey Road (2019), Let It Be (2021), and Revolver (2022), as well as new stereo mixes for The Beatles’ 1 (2015). All tracks not also featured on those releases have been newly mixed in stereo and/or Dolby Atmos by Giles Martin and Sam Okell at Abbey Road Studios, aided by WingNut Films’ audio de-mixing technology.
