About Pet Shop Boys:
Pet Shop Boys recently released their fourteenth studio LP, Hotspot, via x2 Records/Kobalt to critical acclaim. The album reached #3 in the UK, German and Spanish albums chart and #1 on Billboard’s Top Dance/Electronic Albums chart, making it the fourth Pet Shop Boys’ album to accomplish this. Hotspot is the third in a series of albums produced by Stuart Price (following 2016’s Super and 2013’s Electric.) Watch the video for “Monkey business;” HERE. Pet Shop Boys, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, are the most successful pop music duo in UK history and have sold over 50 million records worldwide since they emerged in the UK in 1985 with their worldwide number one single, “West End girls”. They are three-time Brit Award recipients and six-time Grammy nominees and have also been acclaimed for their innovative and stylish tour productions on which they have collaborated with artists and directors as diverse as Derek Jarman, Zaha Hadid, Sam Taylor-Johnson and Es Devlin. In 2016 and 2018 they played four-night residencies at the Royal Opera House in London. Their greatest hits tour – Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live – opens on Friday, May 1st at Berlin’s Mercedes Benz Arena, and will see Pet Shop Boys perform at arenas across Europe and the UK in May/June/July.

About New Order:
Rising from the ashes of Joy Division, the enigmatic New Order triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of all time. While their debut album Movement (1981) was shadowed by the legacy of Joy Division, going forward the band combined their original post-punk sound with influences from New York’s club scene. The result was Power, Corruption & Lies (1983), released on Factory Records. From this album came the single “Blue Monday,” which has since become the best-selling 12-inch single of all time. They went on to release a string of albums; Low-Life (1985), Brotherhood (1986) Substance (1987) and Technique (1989). Republic (1993) Get Ready (2001) and Waiting for the Sirens’ Call (2005) before Peter Hook’s departure in 2007.
In 2015, the band released their critically acclaimed album Music Complete, reaching #2 in the UK album chart. The album's title seems to shine a hue on New Order's new manifesto: new line-up, newly eclectic sound, reinvigorated in their fourth decade as a unit.
New Order performed as part of Manchester International Festival 2017 for a series of unique shows in collaboration with Liam Gillick. These shows were such a success, they were taken to Turin and Vienna in May 2018 to further great acclaim and the live album released as ∑(No,12k,Lg,17Mif) New Order + Liam Gillick: So It Goes.. (2019). Continuing to play sold out shows the world over, recent live dates have seen them headline a four night residency at The Fillmore Miami where January 15 was declared forever New Order Day in the City of Miami Beach.

About Carlos Santana:
Coming off the celebration of two epic milestones in 2019 - the 20th anniversary of his groundbreaking album Supernatural and the 50th anniversary of his legendary performance at Woodstock - Carlos Santana now looks to 2020 and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of his masterpiece Abraxas. To date, Santana has won ten Grammy Awards and three Latin Grammys, with a record-tying nine Grammys for a single project for 1999’s Supernatural (including Album of the Year and Record of the Year for “Smooth”). He has received the Billboard Century Award (1996), was ushered into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1998), received the Billboard Latin Music Awards’ Lifetime Achievement honor (2009), and was the recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors Award (2013). Among many other distinctions, Carlos Santana has been cited by Rolling Stone as #15 on their list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time;” and has joined the Rolling Stones as one of only two bands to have an album reach the Top 10 in every decade since the 1960s. In 2018, he released his first MasterClass. In it he teaches the art, heart, and soul of guitar, reaching deep into the spirituality and tonality of his playing to help students become more authentic and expressive artists. In June of 2019, inspired by the sounds and rhythms of Africa, Santana released the powerful, energy-infused full-length album Africa Speaks, which NPR called his “best record in decades” (NPR) and The New York Times ranked among "the fiercest albums in Santana’s 50-year career.” Santana is currently headlining a multi-year residency at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

'Do You Feel Like I Do?' Peter Frampton memoir coming in 2020

Peter Frampton thrilling NAMM fans at the
City National Grove of Anaheim on Jan. 24, 2019.
Photo: Bob Steshetz
Here is breaking news on the forthcoming release of 'Do You Feel Like I Do?', a memoir by Peter Frampton. I saw Peter Frampton perform in January 2019 during the NAMM Show in Anaheim, California and he was fantastic. He performed several solo hits, and also shared the stage with several other notable stars including ZZ Top's Billy F Gibbons. It was truly a memorable and once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can read my review of his performance as part of the Gibson NAMM Jam HERE. Barnes and Noble has a full-length page on the book, which is available for pre-order as a signed hardcover HERE.

Here is the official information from the publisher about "Do You Feel Like I Do?":

Do You Feel Like I Do?

A Memoir
A revelatory memoir by rock icon and legendary guitarist Peter Frampton.

Do You Feel Like I Do? is the incredible story of Peter Frampton’s positively resilient life and career told in his own words for the first time. His groundbreaking album Frampton Comes Alive! spawned three top-20 singles and sold 8 million copies the year it was released (over 17 million to date) and was inducted into the GRAMMY Hall of Fame in January. Frampton was on a path to stardom from an early age. By 22, he was touring incessantly and making use of the talk box which would become his signature guitar effect. “I started playing music so young that I sometimes feel I’ve lived more than one lifetime already,” says Frampton.

The artist shares fascinating stories of his collaborative work and tours with the likes of George Harrison and David Bowie, among others, and reveals both the blessing and curse of Frampton Comes Alive!. And he opens up about becoming the heartthrob and cover boy he never wanted to be, his overcoming substance abuse, and how he’s continued to play at the top of his game despite an inflammatory muscle disease.

You can access the website with all details here.

Country and Rock 'n' Roll titles entice

Is it too early to discuss a music-minded gift guide for 2020? Check out my roundup of a slew of new special deluxe editions available now...

Artist: Marty Stuart
Title: The Pilgrim: A Wall-To-Wall Odyssey (BMG Books)
You might like if you enjoy: Dwight Yoakam, Emmylou Harris, Ralph Stanley, Johnny Cash
Tell me more: At 192 pages and weighing well over three pounds, the astounding hardcover title The Pilgrim: A Wall-To-Wall Odyssey fully expands and sheds light anew on country icon Marty Stuart's brilliant "The Pilgrim." Released in 1999, The Pilgrim was Stuart's 10th album and marked a true artistic turning point for the artist. In addition to Stuart's considerable talents as singer-songwriter and musician, he is joined by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, George Jones and Johnny Cash on the ambitious album inspired by true events that occurred in his hometown of Philadelphia, Mississippi. The lushly-illustrated coffee table volume features countless details about the recording of the project and what the seminal album has meant to Stuart's celebrated career; additionally, the title is enhanced by the inclusion of an audio CD featuring the original album along with 10 unreleased bonus tracks. Information: www.bmg.com.

Artist: Hank Williams
Title: Pictures From Life's Other Side: The Man and His Music in Rare Recordings and Photos (BMG)
You might like if you enjoy: Hank Williams, traditional country music
Tell me more: In addition to the wonderful edition of Marty Stuart's The Pilgrim: A Wall-To-Wall Odyssey, BMG has released the equally-crucial Hank Williams table-top book Pictures From Life's Other Side: The Man and His Music in Rare Recordings and Photos. The book includes more than 200 photos (many never-before-seen!) of the late country music hero as well as six full-length audio CDs of remastered performances pulled from his "Mother's Best" radio series. More than 65 years after his death at the age of 29 on New Year's Day in 1953, Williams remains among the most influential and important country music artists of all time. This splendid coffee table book  that comes in a slipcase and is bolstered by a treasure trove of audio recordings  serves as an enduring reminder that Williams classics such as "Cold Cold Heart," "Lovesick Blues," "I Saw the Light," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and many more set a template for country music and Americana styles that live on in 2020. Information: www.bmg.com.

Title: London, Reign Over Me
Author: Stephen Tow
Publisher: Rowman & Littlefield
Hardcover: 224 pages
Tell me more: Author Stephen Tow's informative London, Reign Over Me offers an in-depth look at the explosion of the British classic rock scene of the 1960s. While it's easy to peg the era as simply "the '60s," Tow's probing volume provides a nuanced look at the various styles that mattered including skiffle, R&B, British blues, folk and progressive rock. A key area explored is how British musicians took American blues music and made it into something that was their own, ultimately helping to forever define what we recognize today as classic rock. Much of the history of the decade comes alive via interviews with a who's who of rock legends: Rod Argent (The Zombies), Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), Dave Davies (The Kinks), Peter Frampton (Humble Pie), Carl Palmer (ELP, Asia), Roger Glover (Deep Purple) and many more. This is a must-read for fans of classic rock. Information: www.Rowman.com.

Title: Rush: Song by Song
Author: Alex E. Body
Publisher: Fonthill Media
Paperback: 160 pages
Tell me more: While it took the establishment decades to catch on to the power and magic of Canadian rock trio Rush, diehard fans of the outfit have been championing the group since the early 1970s. The power of the band's music is celebrated in spades on writer Alex E. Body's Rush: Song by SongI somehow missed the release of the book when it was published last summer but I wasted no time in reading the title when I discovered it earlier this month. Body really does a great job of addressing the musical layers on specific tracks, as well as details in the lyrics and how those were influenced by the times when the songs were written. Reading the book brought back a flood of memories including my high school pal Jeff introducing me to Rush via blasting Fly By Night while we cruised in his station wagon on Whittier Boulevard and catching the band in concert in the '80s, '90s and several times this century. Sights and Sounds: 'The Vinyl Revival', new documentary explores all things vinyl

One of the remarkable trends in music has been the reemergence on vinyl over the past few years. Now comes a new documentary looking at "The Vinyl Revival"...

'THE VINYL REVIVAL' COMING THIS SPRING

Fascinating documentary from the makers of Last Shop Standing exploring the renaissance in all things vinyl

Arriving on DVD on April 10, 2020 via Wienerworld (UK)

Includes interviews from Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), Philip Selway (Radiohead), Ade Utley (Portishead), Joel Gion (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), The Orielles, CASSIA and many more

From the makers of the acclaimed Last Shop Standing, this new film, The Vinyl Revival, charts the amazing revival of vinyl over the past several years. The film explores the whys and hows with industry pundits, artists, record shop owners, vinyl fans and many more.
Directed and produced by Pip Piper, we hear from passionate new record shop owners as well the established die-hards still going and thriving. The film discusses the importance of the record shop and vinyl as a whole. We answer the why's of vinyl's revival, the human need for belonging, the love of history and the stories of how the humble little record shop has shaped so many lives.
Record collecting has lost its image as a hobby for middle-aged men and become instead a pursuit of the most fashion-conscious consumer. Will it last? What is the future for record shops when vinyl becomes less fashionable? Why are we in danger of another record shop decline? Why must we support these bastions of culture?
Features an 8 page booklet chronicling the making of the film, with contributions from director Pip Piper (Last Shop Standing) and author Graham Jones.
"The vinyl record is the equivalent of whether you have the tea bag or the Japanese tea ceremony; the tea ceremony is the right way to approach music."
Nick Mason, Pink Floyd
"It's a Lazarus moment."
