GRAMMY®-NOMINATED BAND SET TO RELEASE THEIR FIRST SINGLE  

 

“TALK TO ME” ON JUNE 23, 2023 

 

CURRENTLY ON TOUR THROUGHOUT THE U.S.

 

 

Round Hill Records has announced that the GRAMMY® Award-nominated trio The Record Company will release their first new single “Talk To Me” on June 23^rd while continuing to tour throughout the U.S. 

 

With this new offering, band members Chris Vos (guitar, lead vocals, harmonica), Alex Stiff (bass, backing vocals), and Marc Cazorla (drums, backing vocals) are kicking off their next musical era with a single that features guitar cries through a hypnotically hummable bassline and head-nodding beat. A common theme on this record was keeping the sound raw and getting back to basics. 

 

“With ‘Talk To Me,’ we used the same junky yard sale drum set heard on our earliest recordings. When the question came up later whether to re-record the song in a more professional studio setting, we voted that the original spirit was more important than polish, and we left that groove intact. A lot of the album follows this same vision,” said bassist Alex Stiff. Set to a thick 60s Hofner bass and Motown inspired drum groove, "Talk To Me" explores the unfinished business of a love lost, or an addiction that’s still knocking on the front door. The Record Company finds some of that unrehearsed, live sound and hot-off-the-paper vocals seen on many of their earliest recordings. 

The Record Company has experienced everything as a family since they formed in 2011 and garnered recognition with their 2016 debut, Give It Back To You. The release earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Contemporary Blues Album” and spawned “Off The Ground,” a #1 single at AAA Radio that has tallied nearly 40 million total streams and counting. The band then went on an extensive tour with John Mayer, before headlining across the country and accruing a cadre of fans. Prior albums from The Record Company include All Of This Life (2018) and Play Loud(2021).

 

Now in 2023, a new chapter has begun.  The trio were in the studio working on a new album in late December 2022 when they received a call from their then record label saying that they were being dropped just days before Christmas. Proving their resilience and taking rejection as a rite of renewal led the band down a new path, creating the raw, self-produced, blues-based music that harkens back to their roots. 

 

These “roots” would include half-working dumpster guitars, no-name drum sets from garage sales, no click tracks or studio tricks, all recorded in the bass player’s living room. “Almost every band you love at some point tends to drift away from that raw spark that made them unique in the first place,” says drummer Marc Cazorla. “They search for bigger sounds, bigger budgets, more expensive instruments, producers, mixers, etc. We’ve been subject to that as well, but now we’ve come back full circle to what matters most: making raw, honest music that moves peoples’ souls.”

 

The Record Company signed to Round Hill Records earlier this year and are managed by Jeff Castelez and his Cast Management team with UTA (Scott Clayton and Buster Phillips) representing the band for touring. They are set to tour throughout the year with plans to release a new album in the fall of 2023.

“How High,” the first single released from the LP, is currently #3 at AAA Radio. The track has also reached Top 3 on the Americana Singles Chart while Play Loud has been Top 3 on the Non-Comm Albums Chart in advance of its street date.

Play Loud is produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem.) On the album, the group stretches out artistically and explores their far-flung influences. “We totally flipped the process on this record to allow for every idea and possibility, so it wasn’t just the three of us, closed off in our bubble. It was like, ‘Let’s take some risks and see what we can really do,’” describes bassist Alex Stiff.

The Record Company—consisting of guitarist/lead vocalist Chris Vos, bassist Alex Stiff and drummer Marc Cazorla—most recently released their EP Side Project (also via Concord Records), which finds the band reimagining and reconstructing some of their favorite tracks by a wide range of artists including Big Mama Thornton, Cypress Hill, INXS and Willie Dixon. June 8, 2021—GRAMMY-nominated rock band The Record Company are hitting the road this fall for a 32-stop tour across North America. The Play Loud Tour kicks off October 10 in Milwaukee and concludes November 22 in Los Angeles, with support from JJ Wilde on select dates. See below for a complete list of upcoming shows.

Los Angeles, CA (April 2, 2020) – Grammy-nominated trio The Record Company will release Early Songs and Rarities, a SOLD OUT 12” special edition vinyl LP of 11 previously unreleased recordings that was available exclusively for Record Store Day Black Friday 2019, digitally this Friday, April 3rd 2020.

The RSD Black Friday sell out LP followed another huge year for the Los Angeles-based band – Chris Vos (vocals, guitars, harmonica), Alex Stiff (bass, guitars, vocals) and Marc Cazorla (drums, piano, organ, vocals) – who released their sophomore album All Of This Life in June 2018 via Concord Records. Tell me more: Since the breakup of The Smiths in 1987 guitarist Johnny Marr has carved out a wide-ranging path performing with everyone from The The and the Pretenders to Modest Mouse, Talking Heads and even famed composer Hans Zimmer! But the most astounding ripple in Marr's incredible journey has been a solo career launched with 2013's The Messenger. That album, as well as 2014's Playland and 2015's live import Adrenalin Baby, have rapidly established Marr as one of this decade's most exciting rock artists. On June 15, Marr released his third studio album Call the Comet, and the 12-song set offers definitive proof that while Marr's signature guitar work put him on the map his elevated songcraft and top-tier vocals guarantee listeners will be swept away and immersed across "Call the Comet." Tell me more: Snow Patrol has returned with Wildness, the Northern Irish rock band's first new full-length album since 2011's Fallen Empires. A seven-year break feels like a lifetime when considering the span between studio albums (just think how many albums the Beatles released during the seven-year span between 1963's With The Beatles and 1970's Let It Be), but the good news for fans is Wildness delivers on the group's ambitious modern rock approach. Indeed, singer-songwriter-guitarist Gary Lightbody and company's mix of introspective lyrics and art rock dynamics are as affecting and compelling on "Wildness" as the troupe's 2003 breakthrough Final Straw. The songs frequently tackle the intimacy of love but in the context of the mystery of life's magic and fleeting fabric. The diversity of sounds and even the range and studio effects on Lightbody's vocals (much of the power of the disc comes courtesy of producer Jacknife Lee) on the pensive "Life On Earth," tender "Don't Give In" and deeply moving "Heal Me" are early standouts on the album. The anthemic "Empress," piano-anchored ballad "What If This is All The Love You Ever Get?" and powerful "Soon" are among this writer's other favorites. Finishing off the album is the introspective "Life and Death" which gracefully explores the connection between two souls. An outstanding return. Tell me more: Those who appreciate the blistering blues rock of Greta Van Fleet but complain that the Michigan outfit sounds too much like Led Zeppelin needs to check out the sophomore album from Los Angeles-based trio The Record Company. On All Of This Life, the trio (singer-guitarist Chris Vos, bassist-vocalist Alex Stiff and drummer-vocalist Marc Cazorla) proves to be the real deal unleashing a blistering hybrid of electric Chicago blues and classic blues rock that explodes out of the speakers. The album's undeniable lead-off track "Life to Fix" has a bona fide intensity and resonates with the impact of a favorite classic rock track. The Little Walter-styled harmonica blasts give "I'm Getting Better (And I'm Feeling It Right Now)" an additional flair on the equally amped-up follow-up single. Adding fuel to the band's firepower brand is the overall message about looking inward and working on one's own issues as part of a solution to help make the world we all share a little better (a message forcefully delivered via the slide guitar-drenched "Make It Happen" and the closing track "I'm Changing"). All Of This Life will be released on June 22. You might like if you enjoy: Buffalo Springfield, The Band, Dawes
Tell me more: Dawes' sixth album Passwords (set for release on June 22) taps into the 21st century with artistic timeliness to be sure. The lead-off track "Living in the Future" is a decidedly probing work that taps into the fast-paced world we call home. But the band's incursions extend beyond the quickening pace of how we struggle to connect with those around us beyond Tweets and Facebook posts. There is an intimacy and honesty that is at the heart of this special album and it helps elevate Dawes' California-styled folk rock beyond the reach of most of their contemporaries. Lead singer-songwriter Taylor Goldsmith clearly spends a lot of time thinking about love, loss and the meaning of life; the fact he is able to put his keen observations so clearly into song is a gift for which discerning listeners can be grateful. "Crack the Case," "I Can't Love" and "Never Gonna Say Goodbye" ooze melancholy even while the songs themselves are luxuriously beautiful. The jazz-tinged soul of "Feed the Fire" and reflective "Time Flies Either Way" show the remarkable range of the Los Angeles-spawned quartet. The ambitious "Telescope" makes an immediate mark, with its sophisticated and majestic soundscape adding weight to its lyrical refrain: "The Stronger the Telescope / The More Stars There Are."  Information: dawestheband.com.

Tell me more: The rise of the "Me Too" movement has extended beyond Hollywood-related issues of sexual assault and harassment to also serve as a greater cry by women around the world for equality in workplace and society at large. On Canadian-born/New Zealand-based singer-songwriter Tami Neilson's outstanding new album Sassafrass! there is no mistaking the 11-song album as anything less than a potent and masterful artistic statement on behalf of women everywhere. Wrapped in a musical mix of Americana, soul, country and blues, the songs across Sassafrass! are bolstered by Neilson's own life experiences as woman, mother and daughter. The aptly-titled "Stay Outta My Business" finds the singer playfully (and skillfully) letting everyone else to best worry about themselves. The Record Company will release All Of This Life, the hotly anticipated follow-up to their 2016 GRAMMY-nominated debut, on June 22, 2018 via Concord Records. One listen to the band’s exhilarating new music and it’s clear just how much the trio has grown as a result of their meteoric rise. The gritty guitar, fuzzed-out bass, and driving drums are still front and center, but the songs are bolder and more ambitious this time around, deeper and more reflective, brimming with adventurous vitality while remaining firmly tethered to the roots of American rock and roll that have always grounded and nourished the group.

“After that first album, everything just got amplified,” says singer/guitarist Chris Vos. “Our lives got crazier and bigger and more complicated in the best possible ways, and our sound and our songwriting just naturally grew alongside that. We’re the same people we always were, but The Record Company isn’t just three guys in a living room anymore.”

While the band—Vos, bassist Alex Stiff, and drummer Marc Cazorla—still worked up most of the album’s ten new, original songs at home, they headed to nearby Boulevard Recording in Hollywood on a quest to break new ground. With Stiff in the producer’s chair and an eclectic array of analog gear in the studio - which has hosted everyone from Pink Floyd to Fleetwood Mac to The War on Drugs - The Record Company pushed the limits of their production and arrangements into uncharted territory, while still capturing all the irresistible power and spontaneity of their live shows. Mixed by Mark Needham, the resulting songs reflect our troubled times, looking inward rather than out, musing on personal empowerment, self-improvement, and the supremacy of love.

“This record to me is about making yourself better,” Vos explains. “It’s about owning your spot in the world. If you’re not on the right path, the only person who can take that next step to fix it is you.”

The Record Company's own path is a rock n' roll dream made real, fueled by talent and determination. This trio of gritty underdog musicians played in bars and clubs for years before joining forces in LA, and cutting an album – at home, on thrifted instruments – that turned their world upside down. Give It Back To You garnered a GRAMMY nomination, spawned three Top Five hits at Triple-A radio (including the #1 smash “Off The Ground”), and earned the band a slew of festival appearances and sold-out headline dates around the world.  They made the rounds on late night and daytime TV, shared bills with John Mayer, Mavis Staples, My Morning Jacket and others, and racked up more than ten million streams on Spotify alone. The critical response was just as ecstatic, with Rolling Stoneraving that the band “kick[s] up a raw, rootsy racket” and Entertainment Weekly calling the album a “soul scorcher.”
