U.S. Tour Kicks Off May 11, 2019

British guitar siren and dynamic songwriter Joanne Shaw Taylor has released her new song "All My Love" off her forthcoming studio album Reckless Heart, out on May 17 via Silvertone/SonyPRESS HERE to listen to the track which finds Joanne deliriously in love. Channeling her inner Tina Turner, "All My Love" accentuates Joanne's soulfully powerful rasp and audacious guitar skills. PRESS HEREto stream/download.

With a singular voice that will stop you in your tracks, Joanne Shaw Taylor will be unleashing her new album in the U.S. where audiences have been discovering her formidable talent that has already blazed a path of overseas acclaim. Both a make-up and a break-up album, which Billboard calls her "most soulful effort to date," Reckless Heart was written by Joanneduring two phases of a relationship: the fall out and getting back together. The album's lead radio single, "The Best Thing" (PRESS HERE to listen/watch), confidently puts a lover on warning for not committing. Reckless Heart is available now for pre-order. PRESS HERE and receive instant downloads of "All My Love" and "The Best Thing," along with "In The Mood," "Break My Heart Anyway," and "Bad Love."

On the heels of playing to packed venues across the UK, Joanne - a powerhouse performer - will bring her enthralling live show to the States for a run of headline dates and festivals across the country. The U.S. tour kicks off May 11th in celebration of the release of Reckless Heartand will continue through the fall. Tickets are on sale now at www.joanneshawtaylor.com. For a taste of what's in store, PRESS HERE to check out Joanne's live performance on BBC 2's Later...with Jools Holland.

Featuring Joanne's smoky rasp that rises from the legend of soul greats, Reckless Heart finds her in glorious form and a mischievous mood, one minute bearing her claws with catty lyrics and the next deliriously in love. Illuminating all the corners of her firecracker personality, Reckless Heart was borne out of a newfound openness and confidence that can only come with life experience. The 11-song collection explores emotions ranging from blaring anger to flirty love, from the rollicking "In The Mood" and the gritty, gospel-tinged "Reckless Heart"to the gorgeous, acoustic guitar-led "Break My Heart Anyway" and the unplugged gem "Jake's Boogie," recorded entirely live.

In several senses, it's an album of firsts for Joanne - the first made in her adopted home town of Detroit, the first produced by her close friend Al Sutton (Greta Van Fleet, Kid Rock), the first largely recorded live (with no guitar pedals, and with some of Detroit's best musicians - among them jazz drummer Ron Otis, bassist James Simonson, and keyboardists Phil Hale and Chris Codish), the first to feature an unplugged solo performance, and the first with her new label home Silvertone/Sony, following in the footsteps of Silvertone artists that she grew up listening to like Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Stone Roses. But it's also an album that pulls the past into the present. The good-time grooves of vintage, British blues-rock are given a modern makeover, while Joanne's cut-to-the-bone vocals take their cue from her soul heroines like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Mavis Staples.

Throughout her career, Joanne has won over fans such as Stevie WonderJoe Bonamassa(whose band played on Joanne's 2016's UK Top 20 hit album Wild), Foreigner (whom she opened for at venues like Royal Albert Hall) and Annie Lennox (with whom she performed in front of Buckingham Palace for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert in 2012). Discovered at age 16 by Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart, she has spent a decade releasing increasingly successful albums, touring the world, headlining festivals, and amassing awards, and 2019 is sure to bring a lot more from Joanne.

Finally, in celebration of the new music, the band have confirmed the television debut performance of “Alligator”on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (NBC) on May 15th.

Released just last week “Alligator” has already turned heads with NME praising it as having “a bombastic and driving sound” and Line of Best Fit calling it “undeniably catchy.” In addition, “Alligator” song was the #1 greatest gainer at alternative and #1 most added at Triple A radio - receiving strong support from those who have long awaited for the band’s return.

On “Alligator” co-vocalist Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdóttir has taken center stage on the song not only as the lead vocalist, but also wrote the track as well. On the empowering anthem and what is coming next for the band they noted, "We are so excited about Alligator, the first release from our upcoming album. In addition to performing at festivals such as Coachella, LollapaloozaFirefly, and beyond, they supported Florence + the Machine on a high-profile arena tour. In the midst of this rapid rise, 2015’s Beneath The Skin bowed in the Top 3 of the BillboardTop 200 and the band starred in an episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones in the same year.

Tedeschi Trucks Band releases new album 'Signs' today via Fantasy/Concord

I can't wait to get a listen to the new Tedeschi Trucks Band album Signs, out today. I have caught the band several times and their genre-blending sound of blues, soul, R&B and rock is just stellar. You can read a review of their 2017 live album Live From The Fox Oakland here. The Tedeschi Trucks Band was incredible in a headlining turn at the Doheny Blues Festival in 2013; read my review of that performance here. Also, check out my review (co-written with Orange County Register writer Ben Wener) of the troupe's amazing performance at the Doheny Blues Festival in 2011 here.

PRAISE FOR ‘SIGNS’

“Uplifting...electrifying” -Rolling Stone

"[A] potent mix of diverse styles...sits at the heart of the Tedeschi Trucks stew." -Forbes

“Instant classic.” -NPR Music
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – February 15th, 2019 – Today, Tedeschi Trucks Band releases 'Signs' (Fantasy/Concord), their first new album in three years. ‘Signs’ has earned accolades from Rolling Stone and NPR Music, who praised the album’s “ripping...mercurial guitar playing" and Tedeschi's "soulful vocals.” Listen to ‘Signs’ here:http://smarturl.it/TTBSigns

‘Signs’ confronts loss, heartbreak, and politically troubled times with a credence and conviction that puts the group’s undying world-class musicianship and collaborative spirit on full display. It’s a genre-defying collection that runs the gamut from uplifting soulful anthems to bittersweet ballads and driving rock and roll. Read more about the making of ‘Sings’ in Derek and Susan’s recent Relix Magazine cover story: https://bit.ly/2X1vgkP

Lead single “Hard Case” stands at the #1 spot at Americana Radio charts and the album holds the #5 spot. Watch the official video for “Hard Case” here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSUYngnt-D0

Sights & Sounds:Elvis Costello, Young the Giant, Neil Diamond, Cold War Kids, Iron Maiden

Plenty and plenty of news in the music world! In addition to updates on Elvis Costello and Young the Giant (both artists have new releases out today!), there are announcements as it relates to Neil Diamond, Cold War Kids and Iron Maiden...

Elvis Costello releases new album 'Look Now' today on Concord Records

Elvis Costello has released Look Now, his first new album in five years and first with The Imposters since the 2008 release of Momofuku. Recorded in Hollywood, New York City and Vancouver, British Columbia, most of the new titles were written solely by Costello, although the album does feature co-writes with Burt Bacharach ("Don't Look Now," "Photographs Can Lie," "He's Given Me Things") and Carole King ("Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter").

Listen to ‘Look Now’: http://found.ee/ElvisCostello_LookNow

In advance of ‘Look Now,’ Elvis Costello discussed the album with Carole King in a historic artist-on-artist conversation for the New York Times:https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/09/arts/music/elvis-costello-carole-king.html
Costello also sat down with NPR’s All Things Considered to chat about this “uptown pop record” twenty years in the making:https://www.npr.org/2018/10/11/656195169/elvis-costello-doesnt-want-your-nostalgia-he-wants-you-to-look-now
Watch a video interview with Rolling Stone diving into the songwriting process behind the album’s “Under Lime”: https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/elvis-costello-new-album-look-now-735312/

“Sharp, sophisticated…effortlessly tuneful…the kind of wry, well-observed pop classicism that’s been the hallmark of his genius.” – Rolling Stone

“Costello has made a great cake of an album that doesn’t really sound much like any of the 30 before it.” – Variety

“These are very human songs with elegant melodies and arrangements… expertly applied in Costello’s superlative songwriting.” – Associated Press

“His deft pen provides sharp studies of romance and murky motives…lush, sophisticated pop.” – Billlboard

“There are plenty of moments here reaffirming Costello’s position at the forefront of his generation’s most gifted composers.” – USA Today

“There’s a swanky, sophisticated cool coursing through ‘Look Now… an intricately detailed, meticulously crafted affair.” – Consequence of Sound

Today, Young the Giant return with their newest full-length album Mirror Master via Elektra Records, which includes the recently shared tracks "Simplify" and "Call Me Back", along with the musing, buzzworthy new single "Superposition". Mirror Master is available to stream or purchase athttps://lnk.to/mirrormaster.
Last week, Young the Giant delivered "soaring" (Billboard) performances of "Superposition" and "Simplify" on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and earlier this summer they also appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with a powerful rendition of "Simplify".
Describing the overall thesis for Mirror Master, vocalist Sameer Gadhia explains, "Within one single day, we're all so many different people. Especially with the use of social media, we're not just living in the now-we're living on several different timelines simultaneously. A lot of the album came from thinking about how we have all these separations within ourselves that allow us to go about our day. At a time when everyone wants to put each other in a box-culturally, socially, musically-we wanted to show that there are a multitude of reflections inside everything. We don't have to be a certain thing; we can contradict ourselves and show all these different sides of who we are."
Since the band's 2010 inception, Young the Giant has made a name for itself in rock as the 'thinking man's band,' winning over fans, radio, and press with their incendiary live shows, strong musicianship, and poignant lyrics. Following 2016's critically-acclaimed Home of the StrangeMirror Master promises to continue ascending into consciousness, though this time with a heavy focus on personal self-awareness and growth.
Mirror Master finds Young the Giant in a transitional period for America, not only as a culture (for their former album Home of the Strange, NPR's Alisa Chang had an in-depth conversation with Gadhia about the 'modern immigration story', available to read here), but also technologically. The band members have become increasingly aware of society's attachment to social media, cellphones, and elevated, sometimes fabricated, self-portrayals on the internet.
With the new album, the band forgoes the technological obsession and, in an almost meditative way, examines one's relationship with the "self" to instead express a genuine identity.
"Something we want to get across with the album is the idea of taking authorship of your life," continues Gadhia. "Even though it may all be an illusion, there's solace in that illusion. Because if you have control of anything at all, it's your own reflection, how you treat people and how you walk through this life. So if you're an Indian kid and your parents want you to be a doctor or lawyer or engineer, and you just want to make music with your friends, then do that. Don't let people feed you what they want you to think. Do what makes you happy, and realize and that all is good and all is horrible, and everything else in between."
Young the Giant is composed of Gadhia (vocals), Jacob Tilley (guitar), Eric Cannata (guitar/vocals), Payam Doostzadeh (bass), and Francois Comtois (drums/vocals). They are on tour this fall across the US with LIGHTS as main support. For more information and concert tickets, visit youngthegiant.com.

Cold War Kids to release double disc career-spanning anthology, 'This Will All Blow Over In Time,' collecting together all of their radio singles and an assortment of rare and unreleased tracks

PRE-ORDER LAUNCHES TODAY WITH INSTANT GRAT DOWNLOAD OF UNRELEASED LIVE SONG “VACATION IN CHICAGO”

In their impressive, steadily rising career, soulful, blues-tinted rockers Cold War Kids have proven to be one of the most prolific commercially successful bands around. Never ones to rest, from the beginning they’ve utilized all manners of getting their music out to their fans, releasing a steady stream of EPs and digital singles between their full-length studio albums. As they peer over the horizon at their 15-year anniversary next year and reflect on how far they’ve come since forming in Southern California’s burgeoning indie rock scene in 2004, the band, now signed to Capitol Records, has collected together all of their radio singles spanning their tenure on Downtown Records from 2005 to 2015 along with some of their best unreleased and rare tracks for a double disc collection titled This Will All Blow Over In Time. The anthology will be released December 7 via Downtown Records/UMe on 2CD and digital with a double LP on translucent yellow vinyl to follow in February. The pre-order kicked off today with an instant grat download of the unreleased track “Vacation In Chicago,” a live version of fan favorite “We Used To Vacation, appropriately recorded in Chicago. Pre-order This Will All Blow Over In Time now: https://UMe.lnk.to/ColdWarKids

Led by rousing frontman Nathan Willett (vocals/piano/guitar), Cold War Kids exploded onto the national spotlight in 2006 with their first single, “Hang Me Up To Dry,” which led to appearances on “Letterman” and “Conan” and prompted RollingStone to dub it one of “The 100 Best Songs Of The Year,” enthusing: “Indie rock with a little sex: Nathan Willett howls like a country bluesman as the other three Kids elbow their way through a mess of art-damaged funk.” Originally released on their third independently released EP Up In Rags, the song was included on the band’s breakout debut full-length Robbers & Cowards along with fellow radio hits “We Used To Vacation” and “Hospital Beds.” This Will All Blow Over In Timeincludes these songs as well as all their radio singles from their first five records.

Sequenced in chronological order from year of full-length album release, the first half of the retrospective, aptly titled Singles Worked At Radio, ranges from the soulful urgency of tracks “I’ve Seen Enough” and “Something Is Not Right With Me,” from Loyalty to Loyaltythe band’s first album to reach the top 50 on the Billboard 200, to “Louder Than Ever” and “Royal Blue” from 2011’s bigger and bolder Jacquire King-produced Mine Is Yours, to the funky, anthemic “Audience Of One” from their 2009 EP Behave Yourself, to the driving piano stomper “Miracle Mile, their fifth top 40 hot in Billboard’s Alternative Songs chartand the electro-tinged “Lost That Easy” from 2013’s Dear Miss Lonelyhearts.Their final record for Downtown, 2014’s Hold My Home, is represented with the infectious, dramatic rocker “All This Could Be Yours” and the clap-along anthem “First,” which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart earning the band their highest charting single which has since been certified Gold.

Titled Songs From All Over The Place, the second half brings together an exciting mix of 11 unreleased songs and rarities to give a fuller picture of the band’s eclectic and prolific output over the last decade and a half. Kicking off with the aforementioned “Vacation In Chicago,” it includes the demo for “First,” a cover of Nick Cave’s Opium Tea,” previously only available to stream online only, and “Goodnight Tennessee,” originally released as an iTunes bonus track for Mine Is YoursSome of the many other highlights include the dubby remake of “Minimum Day” titled Minimum Mistake,”produced by the late Richard Swift and originally only available as a download, “Coffee Spoon,” a standout from their seventh EP Behave Yourself, and “In Harmony In Silver” and “Quiet Please” from their long-out-of-print debut EP Mulberry Street released in 2005 on Monarchy Music. The set closes with “Fashionable,” a sprawling track released on the deluxe edition of Mine Is Yours.

This Will All Blow Over Time serves as both the first collection of the band’s many hits and a gift to longtime fans who will revel in the unreleased songs and rare tracks from their hard to find early releases. It also chronicles the band’s trajectory and showcases their continued artistic evolution as they get ready to celebrate a milestone anniversary.
