Nostalgia: An Evening With Annie Lennox, a deluxe package featuring Annie Lennox’s GRAMMY-nominated Nostalgia album and a brand new concert film, is scheduled for release on Blue Note Records on May 4. UDR Music Announces TOMMY BOLIN “TEASER” 40^th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Box Set – Out May 19, 2015 in North America

Tommy Bolin – recognized for his work with groups such as Zephyr, The James Gang, and Deep Purple – was a bright, young American guitar god who created a whirlwind with his loud, stylish, free-form fusion performances before his untimely death at the age of 25 in 1976. Released in 1975 during his time with Deep Purple, Teaser was the solo masterpiece and eventual cult-classic that Bolin never got the chance to properly promote.

Now, 40 years after the album was originally released and unfortunately buried with time, Teaser is finally getting its time to shine.

On May 19, 2015, UDR Music will release the official TEASER 40th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Box Set, a three-album deluxe vinyl box-set supplemented with two live CDs, celebrating the 40^th anniversary of this legendary release. Featuring long-lost outtakes and alternative mixes from the original Teaser studio sessions, plus two live CDs comprising performances from Ebbets Field, The Northern Lights, My Father’s Place and Albany, the TEASER 40th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Box Set is set to satiate the appetites of Bolin fans worldwide.

Bolin was a shooting star, a fiercely bright, ferociously driven and a guitarist whose soul spoke through his fingers and fretboard. Bolin was an American axeman of the caliber rarely seen or heard before (or since) his untimely death at the age of 25 on December 4^th 1976. Bolin allowed the power of funk and the fury of rock to find such finite expression through his inspiration. His expression never sounded more fluent than on his 1975 solo album debut Teaser. The album embraced a tour de force of styles from jazz to hard rock to Latin music, all of which were expressed in a glorious musical stew.

At the age of 17, Bolin formed Zephyr, whose blues rock was coated in psychedelic tendencies. Despite opening for the likes of Led Zeppelin and growing a strong fan-base, Bolin left the group in 1971 to form Energy (a jazz-rock project) before Joe Walsh recommended him to The James Gang, where he recorded the Bang! and Miami albums in 1973 and ’74 respectively. Bolin also appeared on legendary drummer Billy Cobham’s Spectrum solo album, and his ability to enjoy (and make the grade with!) such improvisational jamming style sounds left Bolin as that rare bird. A man who could be a rock star or a man who could be a musician’s musician at cafes across America.

Bolin moved to LA seeking confirmation of the stardom his enormous talents promised, and the foundations for the legendary Teaser album were laid. Featuring session musicians such as Glenn Hughes, David Sanborn, Jan Hammer, Stanley Sheldon and Phil Collins, Teaser represents the fulcrum point of Tommy’s solo-artist work. As he completed work on it, Deep Purple’s Ritchie Blackmore quit the band, and Bolin was invited to join Purple by singer David Coverdale. Come Taste The Band came out towards the end of 1975, before Purple disbanded and left Bolin free to do his second album Private Eyes. Opening for Peter Frampton and Jeff Beck, Bolin was just starting to enjoy the sort of attention and recognition that would surly have seen him rise to the next level of revered guitar God. Sadly, Bolin’s addiction issues would not allow it, and in 1976, he died at the young age of 25.

Do LaB Coachella Stage Announces Lineup and Exciting Changes in 2015!

Since 2004, Los Angeles-based music and event production house, Do LaB,have been constructing an interactive stage inside the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival being held April 10-12 and April 17-19, 2015 in the Southern California desert. The Do LaB stage and its surrounding area - complete with creative lighting structures, shade and misters - has become known and loved by festivalgoers as the oasis of Coachella. This year, the Do LaB stage has been reimagined with an all-new design in a new location, plus a unique, previously unannounced lineup curated by the folks at Do LaB.

The Do LaB stage, unlike the festival’s other five stages, will change its lineup each weekend. Musicians will come from afar - Berlin, France, Australia, England, and Spain - to play this memorable stage. In 2015, the Do LaB stage moves to a new location within the Terrace next to a new entrance, directly across from the Sahara tent, providing direct access from the Saharaa major win for electronic music fans.

Previously, Do LaB has been inspired by nature and exotic plants when building their immersive environment for the festival. This year, the inspiration comes from endangered whales. The stage and its encompassing area serves as a mini-oasis with much-needed shade and misters to cool off the Coachella crowds during the hottest parts of the weekend.

Amidst a parade of wonderful new studio albums that saw their release in 2013 came an equally-strong number of reissues, retrospectives, historic live collections and more. Here are a few of my favorites…

1. The Beatles, Live at the BBC (Capitol)
In an age where seemingly everything ever recorded by the Fab Four has been issued (with the obvious exception of the band's Let It Be documentary), imagine the surprise of hearing dozens of live tracks recorded by the Beatles that were broadcast by the BBC in the UK between March 1962 and June 1965. Highlights on the reissued version of the original Live at the BBC (originally released in 1994) include a rollicking take on Chuck Berry's "Carol" and the only recording by John, Paul, George and Ringo playing the tuneful Lennon-McCartney composition "I'll Be On My Way." Volume 2 is also a gem, featuring a fiery version of Berry's "I'm Talking About You" that was a direct-to-airwaves performance that is thankfully heard again. A lovely performance of the standard "Beautiful Dreamer" is also a standout on the second volume.

2. Humble Pie, Rockin' the Fillmore: The Complete Recordings (Omnivore Recordings)
The late '60s and early '70s produced a number of fantastic British blues-rocks bands including Led Zeppelin and Ten Years After.  The recent release of Humble Pie's Rockin' the Fillmore: The Complete Recordings has cast a renewed focus on the British band co-founded by Steve Marriott and Peter Frampton. The four-disc set features all audio recordings pulled from Humble Pie's four shows played over the course of two consecutive nights at the legendary Fillmore East in May 1971. Highlights include the textured versions of "I Walk On Gilded Splinters" and bone-crunching rocker "I Don't Need No Doctor."

3. Three O'Clock, The Hidden World Revealed (Omnivore Recordings)
The so-called "Paisley Underground" was a psychedelic-meets-melody rock scene that struck Southern California in the early 1980s, and Three O'Clock was one of its most powerful proponents. The band's triumphant return to Coachella earlier this year may have been fueled by work on the newly-released "The Hidden World Revealed," which features 20 sterling tracks (10 of them previously unissued). Those who buy the CD also get a colorful booklet with liner notes from band members Michael Querico and Louis Gutierrez.

4. Keane, The Best Of (Island Records)
Since catching Keane soar at Coachella back in 2005, I've been a fervid fan of the rousing English alternative outfit. Now comes the first-ever greatest hits collection from the group, celebrating the first decade of Keane's discography complete with two discs full of winning singles, sterling B sides, a live track and even three new songs (including the captivating new single "Higher Than The Sun").

5. Alex Chilton, Electricity by Candlelight (Bar None Records)
Although Alex Chilton originally achieved fame in his teens as lead singer of the Box Tops in the 1960s, it was his role as a member of the seminal '70s power pop band Big Star that earned him a permanent place among rock's elite. Now Chilton, who died at age 59 after suffering a heart attack on March 17, 2010, is being celebrated via the release of a powerful live solo performance recorded at the Knitting Factory in New York City on Feb. 13, 1997. After a blackout and loss of power, most of the concertgoers headed home. Those who didn't were rewarded when Chilton came out and proceeded to play an acoustic performance by candlelight that featured Loudon Wainwright III's "Motel Blues," the Beach Boys' "Wouldn't It Be Nice" and "Surfer Girl," and more than a dozen other artfully reworked covers played with an authenticity  for the ages.

6. Neil Young, Live at the Cellar Door (Reprise)
Neil Young has never stopped exploring or trying new things, but listening to the singer-songwriter's Live at the Cellar Door recorded in the fall of 1970, it's simply magical to hear potent performances of many of his finest early gems and realize he was among the original pioneers blending rock, folk and country into timeless masterworks. "Cinnamon Girl" was performed on piano (rather than the now-standard hard rock guitar version), lending the song a decidedly haunting vibe. Among the other classics captured on tape were "Only Love Can Break Your Heart," "Old Man" (which wouldn't be widely heard until "Harvest" came out two years later) and "I Am A Child."

7. Alvin Lee, The Last Show (Rainman Records)
In the late 1960s and early 1970s, no British band journeyed to America more often than Ten Years After. Indeed, the quartet visited the United States 28 times between 1968 and 1974. Led by trailblazing singer-guitarist Alvin Lee, the genre-busting band blended rock, blues and jazz in ways that remain relevant today. The band's mind-blowing performance of "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock in August 1969 showcased Lee's virtuoso skills on lead guitar and his powerful baritone vocals. Lee died unexpectedly on March 6, 2013, but his final concert performance recorded in Raalte, Holland 10 months before his untimely passing is now available on a wonderful 14-track audio CD. Featuring a version of the iconic "I'm Going Home" as well as other Ten Years After staples and solo gems, the packaging for the aptly-titled The Last Show includes photos taken at that final show as well as personal notes from his wife, band mates and even fans.

8. Emerson Lake & Palmer, Live In Montreal 1977 (Shout! Factory)
More than 35 years after it was staged, Emerson Lake & Palmer's epic Aug. 26, 1977 concert at Montreal's Olympic Stadium was released. Live In Montreal 1977 captures the legendary supergroup (Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Carl Palmer) performing with a mighty 70-piece orchestra in front of its largest-ever stadium audience, playing potent versions of classics including "Lucky Man" and "Karn Evil 9."

9. Tommy Bolin, Whirlwind (Purple Pyramid Records/Cleopatra Records)
Although he was only 25 when he died Dec. 4, 1976, guitarist Tommy Bolin nevertheless managed to make a lasting mark as a member of Zephyr (1969-1971), The James Gang (1973-74) and Deep Purple (1975-76). Now comes the aptly-titled Whirlwind, a 2-disc audio collection of rare, unreleased recordings recorded by the groundbreaking guitarist between 1972 and 1975. From the instrumental heavy blues rock of "Cucumber Jam" and free jazz-rock of "Heartlight" and YES-styled prog-rock tear on his instrumental "Hoka-Hay!," Bolin blended the groundbreaking trajectory of Jimi Hendrix with the speedy licks of Ten Years After's Alvin Lee.

Released in late August 2013, the expanded version of The Lumineers' 2012 debut features all of that album's tracklist as well as five additional songs and a bonus DVD featuring 25 minutes of music videos, tour footage and even interviews with members of the Denver-based ensemble. GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS REVEAL DETAILS OF FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM,
THE LION THE BEAST THE BEAT, DUE OUT THIS SUMMER

Grace Potter & the Nocturnals are nearing completion of their fourth studio album for Hollywood Records, which will bear the title The Lion The Beast The Beat. The envelope-pushing new LP plays with reoccurring themes and big ideas. “I think there's a Lion and a Beast within all of us - as humans. There's also true goodness, and the appearance of goodness…” says Grace. "Maybe I've watched too much Mad Men, but I'm in love with the idea of a story with no heroes and no villains and these themes just kept creeping into all the new songs and I didn't fight it. I decided to embrace it." Among the song titles are “Stars,” “The Divide,” “Steady,” “Parachute Heart,” “Never Go Back,” and “Loneliest Soul,” both co-written with Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, and the title track “The Lion The Beast The Beat.”

“Each song stands upright on its own, but these songs really belong to this album,” says Potter. “The way we've always made records is to put together a list of 30 or so songs, pick the best ones, throw them together and hope it congeals. I didn't want to do that this time. I came up with the track order before we recorded so we could really bring you in and out of these songs like scenes in a movie. I want to bring the listener into our weird fantasy and keep them there."

The Lion The Beast The Beat has the scale of rock, the intimacy of blues, the wistfulness of country, and the imagination of psychedelia all tied together by an indelible voice. Grace can take you to church or the roadhouse, Nashville or Los Angeles, the penthouse or the pavement (or the barn) all in one phrase, and the band has the power and finesse to compliment her at every turn.

Potter co-produced the album with renowned studio artist Jim Scott. The band tracked the album live at PLYRZ, Scott’s studio in Santa Clarita, CA, far from the distractions of Hollywood. “When I first met Jim, I knew I wanted to make this record with him. He totally gets us,” says Grace. “He brought the perfect balance of sonic integrity and laid-back finesse. He clearly knows the ‘Zen Dance’ from many years with Rick Rubin and the countless records that he’s been a part of. His knowledge of working with bands runs so deep, from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Wilco to Tedeschi-Trucks…Then we get to his studio, which is an F.A.O. Schwartz of vintage gear. I mean, the dude has enough drum sets for every single band member to play their own kit together, which we did—we’d go caveman apes**t every night before we left the studio.”

The Lion The Beast The Beat also contains the fruits of GPN’s collaboration with Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Auerbach co-wrote and recorded with the band in his Nashville studio in the midst of the pre-production, resulting in the songs "Never Go Back" and “Loneliest Soul.” Firing up his plethora of vintage amps, analog drum loops and “crazy kaleidoscope percussion,” as Grace puts it. “Dan has really hit his stride as a musician and a producer, making epic music the whole world is loving,” she says. "It was great to jump on his train and just let-a-rip.”

In April, the band will make their first-ever appearance at Coachella. “It’s great that we got invited. I love that it’s the first year they’re doing two identical weekends! I mean, who doesn’t want more of something great? It’s so right-on that they’re letting the party continue on. Most of the people who are gonna be there have no idea who we are. We’re fearless onstage, and I think Coachella is will be the perfect setting for us to be just that. And we’ll definitely unveil enough of the new stuff. I'm so looking forward to giving these songs life onstage.”

Following Coachella, GPN will embark on the ‘Brothers of the Sun’ Tour with Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw, a pairing inspired by Grace’s duet with Chesney on their CMA Award-winning single and video “You and Tequila,” which is also up for multiple Grammy and ACM awards and was recently certified platinum for sales of over one million downloads. Grace is fully aware of the fact that a good number of those in attendance will think she’s a country artist, and she fully intends to disabuse them of that notion.

“I’m sure there will be some people who come to the show thinking they’ll see that blonde from the Kenny Chesney video and they get me,” she says with a laugh. “But I love taking people by surprise, and as much as we take things out into deep space onstage, elements of country and roots music have been in my songwriting since the very beginning. Besides, I think today’s country fans like to rock, and we’re gonna find a way to fulfill our dream of tastefully straddling rock ’n’ roll and country.

As if Potter didn’t already have enough good things happening in her career, Gibson is working with her on the Grace Potter Signature Flying V, which she designed herself in partnership with the guitar maker’s luthiers. “A rep from Gibson brought it to the studio last week and it was way better than any Christmas morning I’ve ever had. He told me that Gibson has only issued one other Signature electric guitar for a woman, and that was Joan Jett. I didn’t realize just how big a deal it was until I opened up the case and looked at it. It’s beautiful to look at – but more importantly, it sounds badass.”

All signs suggest that 2012 will be the year Grace Potter & the Nocturnals take it to the next level, validating years of nonstop roadwork and fulfilling their immense promise, commercially and artistically. And The Beat goes on…

Produced by Greg Hampton and Warren Haynes, it’s a remarkable project that brings together major players who actually perform alongside Tommy Bolin’s playing and vocals from the recording outtakes to his solo debut album “Teaser.” Peter Frampton, Warren Haynes (a key supporter of the project), Nels Cline, Steve Lukather, Steve Morse, Brad Whitford, Joe Bonamassa, John Scofield, Derek Trucks, Glenn Hughes and Myles Kennedy all contribute to this amazing project. GREAT GYPSY SOUL will be released on 429 Records on March 27 in both a single CD format and double CD with bonus tracks. A series of promotional concerts are also in the works.

Tommy Bolin was the quintessential guitar prodigy who focused his talents within the burgeoning rock/metal scenes of the early 70’s as well as mastered a highly lauded jazz fusion technique catching the attention of rock tastemakers and guitar legend peers. It was just a matter of time before Bolin was making a name for himself playing on projects as diverse as Billy Cobham’s “Spectrum” project (considered one of the great jazz fusion recordings of all time), replacing Joe Walsh in the James Gang, playing session work on seminal fusion projects by Moxy and Alphonse Mouzon, to replacing Ritchie Blackmore in Deep Purple. With the release of his second solo album Private Eyes, what should have been a red letter moment for Bolin, opening up for Jeff Beck in Miami, sadly turned tragic as Bolin was found dead of an overdose shortly after the gig.

Says Warren Haynes: “Many of the guests added after the fact have a close personal connection to Tommy—all share in acknowledging his place in rock history. Watching (and hearing) it all come to fruition some 35 years later was a journey of its own—well worth the travel.”

COWBOY JUNKIES TO RELEASE 'THE WILDERNESS' ON MARCH 27

THE NOMAD SERIES, VOLUME 4

With the March 2012 release of The Wilderness, Cowboy Junkies complete their four CD collection, “The Nomad Series.” The ambitious schedule of four new releases over an 18-month period will be punctuated by a full US tour - see dates below (more to follow). The latest collection of songs follows the critically acclaimed Renmin Park (2010), Demons (2011) and Sing In My Meadow (2011). Renmin Park was inspired by Timmins' two-month stay in China and was called “their most ambitious yet” by The Boston Herald. Demons, a collection of songs by the late Vic Chesnutt, was labeled “…a loving tribute” by NPR. Sing In My Meadow was hailed by Metromix as, “showing yet another side of one of the most versatile, underrated bands of the last 25 years.”

“The title, The Wilderness, in some odd way seemed to define what these songs were actually “about”: fragility, emptiness, loneliness, beauty, chance, loss, desperation, the delicate balancing act that makes up a life,” explains Michael Timmins. “They are about being lost in the wilderness of age, the wilderness of parenthood, in the wilderness of just trying to find meaning and substance, happiness and truth in one's day to day life. They are about standing alone in middle of it all, breathing in the cold still air and wondering.”

Upon the release of the four volumes, plans call for a book that will delve into the character, nature, and inspiration behind each of the albums. It will be published by Whale and Star, the publishing house of the band's friend Enrique Martinez Celaya, a Cuban-American artist whose "Nomad" paintings helped inspire the series. The four CD's are available separately, will be released as a box set in April with a bonus disc, and will be included in the upcoming book.

Timmins sums up the band's motivation for taking on such a massive project quite simply. "The main reason for wanting to do it," he says, "is that, as we steam through our twenty-fifth year, we feel that we have the energy and inspiration to pull it off!"
