Los Angeles –  AXS TV turns back the clock this Spring with a time capsule full of iconic bands that defined an era in the “Long Live The 90s” all-new weekly limited concert series—launching Sunday, May 9 at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. The special event joins the Network’s “Sunday Night Rocks” lineup which also includes the star-studded music-themed countdown series The Top Ten Revealed at 8 p.m. ET, and the insightful profile series A Year In Music, hosted by GRAMMY®-winning Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale, at 8:30 p.m. ET. Both series premiere new seasons on May 9.

“Long Live The 90s” highlights seven influential bands whose sound helped shape one of music’s most important decades. This curated collection of unforgettable concerts finds each band taking the stage to showcase their unprecedented staying power as they perform career-spanning timeless hits.

The series opens on May 9 with the Pearl Jam concert film Let’s Play Two, documenting the band’s epic two-night stop at Wrigley Field. Set amidst the backdrop of the Cubs’ historic 2016 season, Let’s Play Two details the unique relationship between the band, the team, and the city, spurred by hometown hero Eddie Vedder, and captures Pearl Jam in peak form as they tear through signatures, including “Better Man,” “Black,” and “Jeremy,” as well as legendary covers of Victoria Williams’ “Crazy Mary” and The Beatles’ “I’ve Got A Feeling.” Other series highlights include Garbage rocking the Queen City of the Plains with an evening of signature hits including “Only Happy When It Rains,” “Stupid Girl,” and “I Think I’m Paranoid” in Garbage: One Mile High… Live (May 16); and Stone Temple Pilots storming into the Windy City for a frenetic set at the Riviera Theatre featuring “Plush,” “Between The Lines” and “Creep” in Stone Temple Pilots: Live In Chicago (May 23).

“Long Live The 90s” is back in action on June 6 with alt-rock superstars Jane’s Addiction in a sideshow spectacle blending art with music as they performs “Jane Says,” “Up The Beach,” “Ocean Size,” and “Mountain Song” with burlesque dancers, trapeze artists and more flying through the air in Jane’s Addiction: Live In NYC. Then, Rage Against The Machine heads across the Pond for a roaring showcase, performing hits such as “Testify,” “Bulls On Parade,” and “Killing In The Name” in Rage Against The Machine – Live At Finsbury Park (June 13). The event closes with a pair of Live From The Artists Den specials, as rock trailblazers The Black Crowes fly South for a soaring set Oxford, Mississippi, performing “Shine Along,” “She Talks To Angels,” and “High Head Blues” (June 20); and Seattle legends Soundgarden wrap up their winter tour with a sold out show at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles, performing a landmark set that includes “Rusty Cage,” “Blind Dogs,” “Black Hole Sun,” and many more (June 27).

“Nostalgia is a powerful thing and these days, people are longing not only for a time when life was less complicated, but more imminently, for the day when we can get together to enjoy our favorite bands performing live again,” said Sarah Weidman, Head of Original Programming, Development and Multi-Platform Content for AXS TV. “From the fashion and music, to the toys and TV shows, the one era that people are constantly turning to is the 1990s. This curated concert series presents the ultimate trip down music’s memory lane, taking viewers back to one of rock’s most definitive decades with classic performances, iconic songs and groundbreaking bands that helped make the ‘90s so distinct. We are excited to be able to connect—and re-connect—viewers of all ages to these incredible events, giving them the best seat in the house for powerful sets packed with the classic hits they love.”

On first view, I would love to see Depeche Mode, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk and the Dave Matthews Band get in next year.

Rundgren, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode have been previously nominated, and all three are totally deserving of the honor.

Other nominees that deserve to get in now, or at a later date include T. Rex, Nine Inch Nails and Thin Lizzy.

What are your thoughts?

Sights and Sounds: The Dixie Dregs, Queen in 3-D, Hype!, Status Quo

Here is a super cool roundup of music news...

The original lineup of The Dixie Dregs has announced plans to reunite and tour in 2018. The original lineup features Rod Morgenstein, Andy West, Allen Sloan, Steve Davidowski and Steve Morse.

Keep checking dixiedregs.com and facebook.com/TheDixieDregs for updates on the upcoming tour.

Formed in the 1970s, The Dixie Dregs were an American band that performed mostly-instrumental music that fused together Southern and hard rock, progressive metal and classical forms into something that was completely unique. This will be a much-anticipated tour to be sure!

Queen in 3-D, a stereoscopic masterpiece by iconic guitarist and songwriter Brian May, is the first history of any rock group created in 3-D and written by a band member.Queen in 3D features more than 300 previously unseen 3-D photographs, capturing the history of Queen from the early 1970s to present day. The book has a lenticular 3-D front cover and exclusive Brian May patent OWL 3-D viewer.  It will be released by the London Stereoscopic Company in the U.S. on August 24, 2017.  www.queenin3-D.com

"The whole process of writing this new kind of book was almost subconscious. As I looked at the 3-D photos, memories were triggered and the stories poured out. It’s the 3-D element that makes it so evocative. I believe each image will draw readers in deeper, like me, inviting them to immerse themselves in a scene, to share a previously unseen Queen moment,” said May.

The 3-D illustrations were all captured with May’s stereoscopic cameras.  From an early age he traveled with a 3-D camera, allowing him to capture rare behind-the-scene moments on Queen Tours and during recordings. Some of the photographs had not even been fully processed until the book was in the making. Initially thought by May to be a quick job, this project turned into a labor of love which spanned three years. Each time the book seemed to be close to completion, more 3-D photos were found in forgotten hiding places, prompting further memories and filling in the story. Queen in 3-Deventually became a compelling set of snapshots of May’s life and the life of Queen, over more than 50 years.

Published as a lavish, high quality coffee table book by May’s own London Stereoscopic Company, Queen in 3-D reveals the band’s history through his eyes and reflective narrative.   The book is illustrated with around 360 photographs, mostly accessible in 3-D using the OWL viewer supplied. May’s recollections about himself and fellow band members Freddie Mercury, Roger Taylor and John Deacon, are shared for the first time. Images were taken on stage and behind the scenes, including informal shots taken on the road and during leisure time. Mercury, shy and fiercely protective of his privacy, interacted playfully and comfortably with May’s camera.  Queen in 3-D shares rare glimpses of this consummate showman as viewed by his band mate and close friend. Current fans of the band will also enjoy the modern sections, including on and off stage moments with Adam Lambert.

This is an important book, not only capturing the very essence of one of the world’s all-time greatest bands, but also exploring the culture, politics and atmosphere of the many territories where Queen performed. Brian has created a text that chronicles changes in the music industry alongside major changes in the history of the world.

The Blu-ray collector's edition of Hype! is set for release on September 29, 2017 courtesy of Shout! Factory. Released in 1996, the film was directed by Doug Pray and really is among the most notable films to look at the famed Seattle music scene of the early 1990s.

Here is the description on the upcoming release featured on the official Shout! Factory website:

Drop into the Pacific Northwest in the early '90s and watch a vibrant underground music scene explode into a global "grunge" media frenzy. Hype! follows the music from local bands playing for their friends, to Sub Pop Record's brilliant exploitation of "the Seattle Sound," to Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" hitting #1 on the charts. Questions of money, authenticity, and fame arise as "grunge fashion" hits the runways and a mass migration of wanna-be Seattle bands saturates the city. The Northwest experience is one of humor, loss, and epic irony. With intense live performances by Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Pearl Jam, and many more, Hype! rocks the definitive story of the world's last great local music scene.
"Two Thumbs Up!" – Siskel & Ebert
"The most accurate and energetic look at the Seattle music scene you'll ever see" – Chris Riemenschneider, Austin American-Statesman
"A brilliant synthesis of social anthropology and entertainment" – Christine McKenna, Los Angeles Times

Matt Bellamy said:
"When I was writing this song, I was looking to counteract the current negativity in the world and give inspiration, optimism and hope to people to fight for the causes they believe in; that as individuals we can choose to change the world if we want to."
Watch the video HERE.
Of the video, Lance Drake said the following:
"The song is about survival and fighting the odds - when I heard this song I knew I wanted to do an action packed narrative. I'd heard about Lauren a year or so ago, I read her story and she gave me personal inspiration so I'd always kept her in mind to shoot with one day. The power of the song made me think of her ... so I wrote the video narrative based on Lauren's story and how she overcame the odds."
To learn more about Lauren's inspiring story watch her TED talk HERE.
Muse will be on tour in North America this Summer with Thirty Seconds To Mars and PRVIS in support. The band will appear at Reading & Leeds in the UK, headlining for the third time.
