The nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's Class of 2020 have just been announced.

On first view, I would love to see Depeche Mode, Todd Rundgren, Kraftwerk and the Dave Matthews Band get in next year.

Rundgren, Kraftwerk and Depeche Mode have been previously nominated, and all three are totally deserving of the honor.

Other nominees that deserve to get in now, or at a later date include T. Rex, Nine Inch Nails and Thin Lizzy.

To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Nine out of 16 of the Nominees are on the ballot for the first time, including Dave Matthews Band, The Doobie Brothers, Motörhead, The Notorious B.I.G., Pat Benatar, Soundgarden, T.Rex, Thin Lizzy, and Whitney Houston.

Inductees will be announced in January 2020. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2020 Induction Ceremony, presented by Klipsch Audio, takes place at Public Auditorium in Cleveland, Ohio on May 2, 2020. The Ceremony is preceded by Induction Week, which includes a special dedication of the 2020 Inductee exhibit, Celebration Day, and other events and activities at the Museum and around town! Nominee ballots are sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry. Factors such as an artist’s musical influence on other artists, length and depth of career and the body of work, innovation and superiority in style and technique are taken into consideration.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame offers fans the opportunity to participate in the induction selection process. Beginning October 15 and continuing through 11:59 p.m. EST on January 10, 2020, fans can go to Google and search “Rock Hall Fan Vote” or any nominee name plus “vote” to cast a ballot with Google, vote at rockhall.com, or at the Museum in Cleveland. The top five artists, as selected by the public, will comprise a “fans’ ballot” that will be tallied along with the other ballots to choose the 2020 inductees. 

The Nominees were announced live on SiriusXM VOLUME channel 106’s “Feedback” morning show today with hosts Nik Carter and Lori Majewski along with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation President & CEO Joel Peresman.

Dave Matthews Band wraps up tour with epic set at the Hollywood Bowl

Dave Matthews Band shows no restraint at the Hollywood Bowl

The group performs a tour-ending show that is unapologetically self-indulgent.



The Dave Matthews Band wrapped up their latest North American Tour with a truly epic set in front of a capacity crowd at the Hollywood Bowl on Monday night (Sept. 10).

Performing for more than two hour and forty minutes without intermission, Matthews and his six-man band – as well as a number of guest players who came and went during the show – delivered a mix of fan favorites and stellar versions of tracks from his outstanding 2018 album Come Tomorrow.

The energy in the house was electric from the time Matthews and company took the stage, with Matthews guiding his acoustic guitar and the early moments of the night gently into the aptly-titled "One Sweet World." An extended lush jazz-filled introduction enhanced by the subtle work of trumpet player Rashawn Ross bolstered the sway of the song.

After delivering that seven-minute track, Matthews thanked the audience, noting this was the last night of the tour: "If you think at any point we are being self-indulgent, you are correct."

The audience was happy to share in the DMB's indulging its desires without restraint, cheering the group on through energetic highs and sparse quiet moments. Early highlights included "That Girl Is You" (featuring Matthews singing much of the early part of the track with falsetto vocals before the song picked up fire), "#41" with a kaleidoscope of interesting visuals projected on a large screen behind the stage while the song itself featured dynamic turns from sax player Jeff Coffin and lead guitarist Tim Reynolds before there was an interesting blend of horns and keyboards.

Fans responded most to classic DMB tracks such as "Don't Drink the Water" and late-set entries such as the sing-along "Everyday" and "Ants Marching," but the strength of the night was that every cut could provide something special. A mostly-faithful version of Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" turned the enduring venue into a huge dance floor, and a guest appearance from keyboardist Mark Batson who joined Matthews for a tender "When I'm Weary was as quiet as it was beautiful.

Later in the set, a large string section came on stage and joined DMB for a three-track mini set including the lovely "Here On Out," powerful "Come On Come On" and rocking "Squirm," the latter featuring a gigantic symphonic finish.

"Thanks for indulging us; we don't do this kind of thing very often," Matthews said at the end of that trio of songs.

Those who didn't stay for the encore missed out big time. The 10-minute run included a spectacular version of the new song "Samurai Cop (Oh Joy Begin" off the band's "Come Tomorrow," the grooving rocker "Why I Am" and a potent take on Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" that morphed into the climatic moments of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" complete with Reynolds' lead guitar work mirroring the classic fretwork of Jimmy Page.

Today proved to be a big day in the rock world with major announcements concerning the GRAMMY Awards, Dave Matthews Band (who close out their tour locally in Irvine, CA), and Jason Aldean…

Speaking of the Fab Four, we'll kick off this long and wide-ranging post with a media release from the Recording Academy. I have to admit to being shocked that Ringo Starr has never performed on the Grammys in the past.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis have seven nominations: Album Of The Year and Best Rap Album for The Heist; Song Of The Year for "Same Love" (along with Mary Lambert); Best Rap Performance (along with Wanz) and Best Rap Song for "Thrift Shop"; Best Music Video for "Can't Hold Us" (along with Ray Dalton, Jon Jon Augustavo, Tricia Davis, Honna Kimmerer, Jenny Koenig, and Jason Koenig); and Best New Artist.

Kacey Musgraves and seven-time GRAMMY winner Taylor Swift have four nods each: Musgraves is nominated for Best New Artist, has two nominations in Best Country Song for "Mama's Broken Heart" (along with Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally) and "Merry Go 'Round" (along with Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne), and is nominated for Best Country Album for Same Trailer Different Park; Swift is up for Album Of The Year and Best Country Album for Red, Best Country Duo/Group Performance for "Highway Don't Care" (along with Tim McGraw and Keith Urban), and Best Country Song for "Begin Again."

In April, Dave Matthews Band will play a trio of dates in the South that includes a headlining performance at the 2013 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 28. The band is touring in support of its latest album, Away From The World, which Rolling Stonenamed as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2012. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, the record entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1, making Dave Matthews Band the first group in chart history to have six consecutive studio albums debut atop the chart.
