Music lovers with Blu-ray players have plenty of reasons to celebrate, including the release of a trio of fantastic new titles available now.

Tell me more: The release of the Peter Jackson documentary "Get Back" in 2021 focused an in-depth look at the monumental talent and undeniable chemistry of the Beatles and the British band's otherworldly ability to create some of the greatest songs of the rock era. Now the release of Canadian filmmaker Paul Saltzman's "Meeting The Beatles In India" provides a similarly compelling look at the Fab Four — this time focusing on their mythical time spent in India a year before the "Get Back" sessions. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the documentary finds Saltzman vividly sharing his memories of his time befriending John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr at the Beatles Ashram (also known as Chaurasi Kutia) located in Rishikesh, a city in Northern India. The short period that the Beatles spent in India resulted in the writing of 48 songs in approximately 48 days, including favorites that fill the band's 1968 album The Beatles (better known as "The White Album"). In addition to his first person account of his time with the Beatles, Saltzman's amazing photographs of the Beatles add depth to the film, as do his reflections on his own spiritual journey that fatefully led him to study transcendental meditation alongside the Beatles with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The documentary features interviews with film director David Lynch, pre-eminent Beatles historian Mark Lewisohn, Pattie Boyd (married to George Harrison at the time of the trip to India) and even the real "Bungalow Bill." The Blu-ray edition of "Meeting The Beatles In India" includes 57 minutes of extra scenes, as well as the trailer for the 79-minute documentary. A must-see for fans of the Beatles. Tell me more: Nearly 20 years after his death, Pink Floyd founder Syd Barrett remains a tragic figure as mythical as he is influential. A compelling newly-released documentary — "Have You Got It Yet? The Story of Syd Barrett and Pink Floyd" — provides a deep dive into Barrett's life as a musical and visual artist; the Roddy Bogawa and Storm Thorgerson-directed film also explores the demons that derailed Barrett's professional career and happiness. Through a wealth of previously-unseen photographs and film footage as well as new interviews with the surviving members of Pink Floyd (Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason), Barrett's childhood friends, ex-girlfriends and contemporary musicians, the story of Barrett's life is presented with artful grace and candor. Barrett's creative genius and early success is sadly matched by his breakdown, exit from Pink Floyd and disappearance. Tell me more: With Creed newly reunited and set to embark on an ambitious North American tour beginning on July 17, the band's multi-platinum selling Greatest Hits has just made its widespread debut on vinyl courtesy of Craft Recordings. Originally issued a decade ago as a limited-edition pressing, the 13-track compilation Greatest Hits spans the Tallahassee, Florida-spawned hard rocking hitmaker's first three albums (1997's My Own Prison, 1999's Human Clay and 2001's Weathered). Enduring hits such as "Higher," "With Arms Wide Open," "My Sacrifice" and "One Last Breath" have never sounded better. Human Clay remains one of the best selling rock albums of all time (the disc has sold more than 20 million copies); the Billboard Hot 100 number one single "With Arms Wide Open" also won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Song.

Tell me more: In celebration of Manchester, England-based quintet The Speed Of Sound's 35th anniversary, Big Stir Records has issued A Cornucopia, an ambitious 3-disc set available on audio CD and limited-run vinyl. The first disc on the set features the album Minerva, a 14-track collection that showcases the group's freewheeling approach that blends power pop, indie rock, New Wave, psychedelia and punk rock stylings with artistic firepower and sonic grace. The band's signature sound is anchored by the winning dual male and female lead vocals of guitarists Ann-Marie Crowley and John Armstrong respectively (imagine an outfit headed by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Debbie Harry and Lou Reed); the rest of the talented band includes bassist Kevin Roache, drummer John Broadhurst and pianist Henry Armstrong. Great tracks on the album include the brisk opener "West Wind," the gentle Renaissance folk foray "The Harvest," tuneful "Bodysnatchers," lush ballad "Trickledown," punk rocker "Clickbait" and melodic "So Faux." My favorite original on Minerva is "The Great Acceleration," a bewitching and hypnotic rocker that demands repeated listens. Tell me more: Fans of old school British punk rock will celebrate the release of U.K. Subs' The Last Will And Testament of U.K. Subs, available now as a special CD + DVD combo edition. Recorded live at The 100 Club in London, England on Sept. 29 and 30, 2023 as part of the band's farewell tour, the essential title features 70 minutes of the incendiary quartet — formed at the dawn of punk rock explosion in 1976 — performing a mix of of its groundbreaking hardcore and street punk rock originals in an intimate setting where audience members are allowed right up to the edge of the stage. The Charlie Harper-led outfit delivers including the hard-hitting "Scum Of The Earth," infectious "Fear Of Girls," aptly-titled "Rockers" blending punk and early heavy metal styles (and featuring ferocious guitar work from Steve Straughan), daring "Fragile," as well as fan favorites "Warhead" and "Stranglehold." Tell me more: Los Angeles-based alternative country hero David Serby is back! Low Hanging Stars marks Serby's first collection of new music in a decade and the good news is that not a moment is wasted on the terrific 10-track set. Serby's literate and observant tales of streets stretching from Hollywood east to the Salton Sea are matched by the rousing music making where the talented singer-songwriter-guitarist is joined by his longtime producer and lead guitarist Ed Tree, bassist Greg Boaz (currently a member of Mavis Staples' band), drummer Dale Daniel (formerly of the Hacienda Brothers), and keyboardist-vocalist Darice Bailey. Additionally, Carl Byron (of celebrated Hot Club of Los Angeles) contributes Hammond B3 organ, accordion and keyboards on select tracks. The high flying "Fishtail Cadillac," breezy country folk nugget "Lonely Motel Days," rollicking "Low Hanging Stars" and the beautiful ballad "Another Chance to Dream" are early highlights on the disc. Later, the dance-minded honky tonk cuts "The Jukebox is Broken" and "Why Leave Los Angeles," bittersweet country rocker "I Bought the Ring," and sublime accordion-adorned "Trying to Get to Encinitas" bewitch with a mix of melody, stellar song craft and stylish grace. The album closes with the driving "Is it Lonely in Here," a confessional romantic foray whose lyrical and propulsive musical sweep impresses more with every listen.

Tell me more: One of the truly great American rock bands to emerge in the 1990s, Collective Soul has scored a slew of memorable hits including "Shine," "December," "Where The River Flows," "The World I Know" and "Run." Now the band fronted by brothers Ed Roland (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards) and Dean Roland (rhythm guitar) is back with the outstanding 20-track Here To Eternity. The lead-off track "Mother's Love" is an infectious and melodic hard rocker showcasing Collective Soul's brilliant knack at crafting great verses and choruses that fit together perfectly. Other tracks capture that same undeniable approach, each showcasing the rock quintet's magic. The anthemic "Bluer Than So Blue" (enhanced by Jesse Triplett's amazing lead guitar work), power pop-tinged "Let It Flow," bewitching Americana romance-themed "Not the Same," rockabilly foray "Matter of Fact" and gorgeous piano-anchored "Be the One" are among the early gems on the disc. The introspective modern rocker "Keep It On Track," euphoric "Who Loves," sweeping Baroque rocker "Bring On The Day," dreamy "Words Away," enchanting "I Know You. You Know Me" and heart breaking closer "Over and Out" are just as impressive on the album's final run. The Embryos turn on a dime to perform the breezy Americana-tinged "Fortunes," before immersing the listener with shimmering power pop courtesy of the wonderful "Frozen City." Other standouts on the album include the Britpop-mining "Little Demon," shimmering alt country nugget "Desiree," Southern rock-styled "Sweater in the Heather," melodically rich "Somehow She Knew" and dreamy Neo-psychedelic "Onandonandon." Tell me more: Singer-songwriter/guitar master Marcus King is back with Young Blood, a sharp 11-track set of hard-hitting Southern-fried blues rock. Music lovers who miss the guitar heroes of yesteryear should run out and pick up King's new album. While listeners thrill in King's otherworldly talents (King began playing guitar at age 3), they will be gripped by a set of songs that collectively chronicle a dark period for King following a devastating break-up. The artist honestly addresses drug and alcohol excess as well as the real-life issues of depression and mental health. Tracks such as "It's Too Late," "Lie Lie Lie," "Pain" and "Good and Gone" showcase the rising 26-year-old South Carolina native focusing simultaneously on his signature gritty vocals and astonishing lead guitar work in the service of stylish genre-meshing songs blending Southern rock, blues and soul in good measure. Tell me more: For an independent artist to defy the odds and release a parade of 15 celebrated albums is impressive. But that is truly the continuing saga of Gypsy Soul, a genre-defying duo featuring the talents of singer Cilette Swann and multi-instrumentalist Roman Morykit. The musical pair have returned with Cover Story, a disc filled with reworked and original takes of selections by 10 notable artists who have influenced their own music. The completion of the wonderful album was uncertain when the husband-and-wife duo were both stricken with COVID in 2021 and Morykit almost died from complications from the coronavirus. These are not simple paint-by-numbers presentations of the originals — there is a level of creativity and craft that is palpable across the album. Songs that benefit from Gypsy Soul's adventuresome reinterpretations include Duran Duran's "Ordinary World," Tears For Fears' "Mad World," Van Morrison's "Into The Mystic," Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up" and The Beatles' "Day Tripper," the latter a delightful blend of jazzy and blues stylings. Information: GypsySoul.com.

Tell me more: Recently a group of friends and admirers joined forces to celebrate the talents of the late soul singer great Ben E. King (who sadly passed away in April 2015) with recut versions of his best-known classics. The results shine across Supernatural Soul, an 11-track album available now via audio CD and on vinyl. Highlights on this excellent celebration include the affecting "Stand By Me" (bolstered by a wonderful tandem vocals between King and Bette Smith as well as flashy guitar work from Ronnie Earl), the funky gem "Supernatural Thing" with bass virtuoso Bootsy Collins, the lovely "Spanish Harlem" (featuring flamenco guitar master Rafael Riqueni), soulful "Don't Play That Song (You Lied)," grooving "Do It In The Name Of Love" and smooth R&B cut "I Had A Love." Tell me more: Originally released back in 2003, the wonderful collection Sounds Of Summer: The Very Best Of The Beach Boys was an immediate commercial success remaining on the charts for 104 weeks and ultimately earning 4x platinum certification for sales of four and a half million albums. Fast forward to 2022 and that 30-track collection has been expanded to a total of 80 tracks in celebration of The Beach Boys' yearlong 60th anniversary celebration. It includes 26 new mixes, two first-time stereo mixes as well as 24 new-and-improved stereo mixes. The good news is that both casual and die-hard fans of the beloved group will be rewarded with this expansive title. Described as a "Fairytale in Fourteen Songs," Dance Fever marks the first release by British songstress Florence Welch and company since 2018. The majestic opener "King" (bolstered by all manner of sonic shifts), propulsive electronica-tinged "Free," soulful "Dream Girl Evil," anthemic "Cassandra," driving "Daffodil," acoustic "The Bomb" and intoxicating "My Love" are among the many standouts on the terrific return. Welch is a singer armed with a soprano that is both powerful and expressive, and the track listing across Dance Fever is the perfect expression of those marvelous gifts. The bonus tracks also serve to more fully appreciate Welch's artistry; she revisits four of the LP's cuts with sparse arrangement anchored by her poignant vocals — "Cassandra," "Free" and "My Love" are especially moving. Closing out the title is "Search and Destroy," a fiery take on the Iggy Pop-penned 1973 Stooges classic. Fans of Welch's singular vision will definitely want to pick up this version. Florence + The Machine are set to embark on a North American tour on Sept. 2, 2022, including two dates at The Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15. Information: florenceandthemachine.net.

Tell me more: In 2021 — at the age of 90 — actor/author/icon William Shatner become the oldest person to fly into space after his flight aboard the Blue Origin sub-orbital capsule. Now fans of the star can celebrate his historic flight with the limited edition "Rocket Man" single released by Cleopatra Records. The silver vinyl release features Shatner's take on the Elton John classic "Rocket Man" on Side A, where he joined by influential Gong guitarist Steve Hillage. Shatner delivers an especially strong performance of David Bowie's "Space Oddity" on Side B; that version is enhanced by the tandem talents of guitar great Ritchie Blackmore and vocalist Candice Night. Information: CleopatraRecords.com.

Title: Just a Gigolo (Shout! Factory)

Tell me more: Just a Gigolo, a drama starring singer-actor David Bowie has been newly remastered and is available for the first time via Blu-ray (it is also available on DVD, on digital and on demand). Bowie stars as Paul von Przgodski, a young Prussian gentleman navigating events in the final days of and immediately after the end of World War I. Although not considered among his best films, Bowie is strong on screen and the cult classic is definitely worth viewing; what's more Just a Gigolo features a truly impressive cast including stars Kim Novak, David Hemmings, Maria Schell and Marlene Dietrich (the latter in her final role). Bonus features on the Blu-ray include a 32-page booklet, "The Making of Gigolo" with Producer/Writer Joshua Sinclair and Assistant to the Director Rory MacLean, and audio commentary with MacLean. Tell me more: The 1975 modern day western Mackintosh and T.J. – which marked the final feature film appearance featuring singer-actor legend Roy Rogers – has been released for the first time on Blu-ray via a newly restored high definition 4K version. The entertaining film features the Singing Cowboy in a role written specifically for him. The film features music from Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson; the Blu-ray is loaded with a myriad of bonus features including interviews with several of the surviving cast members (Rogers passed away in 1998), original on-set footage and theatrical trailers. This is a truly heartwarming film that found Rogers in a pitch-perfect role where he mentors a young and troubled teen amidst a backdrop of the hard work required on a ranch. The visual and audio elements on the Blu-ray are wonderful, with this important film restored to its full force for the enjoyment of modern-day audiences. Information: MVDb2b.com.

Tell me more: A new original music documentary series is coming to AXS TV this week. "If These Walls Could Rock" debuts on Wednesday, July 7 at 5:30 p.m. (Pacific Time). The series takes a fascinating look at six iconic music venues around the U.S., with a different acclaimed artist performing on each episode. On the first episode set at the "Old Brick Church" in South Carolina, Vintage Trouble (singer Ty Taylor, guitarist Nalle Colt, dummer Richard Danielson, bassist Rick Barrio Dill and backing vocalist Tawny Dolley) perform "Repeating History," an original previously-unheard song. Leading up to that performance is a fascinating look at the history and palpable history of the Old Brick Church and nearby Charleston, South Carolina.

Originally built outside of Charleston, South Carolina in 1708, the Parish of St. Thomas was destroyed by a fire in 1815. Rebuilt in 1819 on the foundation of the original structure, the historic building has stood for more than 200 years and survived the Civil War and other events outlined in the stirring episode.  Directed by Jeff Siebert, the episode celebrates the power of Vintage Trouble while also exploring  history of the region. Tell me more: Recorded 45 years ago while all four members were still in their teens, the Rubinoos' The CBS Tapes was captured in CBS Studios in San Francisco on Nov. 3, 1976. Listening to the newly-released 11-track set is to be fully impressed by the young band's power pop swagger and youthful exuberance that defies time. Playing a mix of originals and covers, singer-guitarist Jon Rubin, guitarist-singer Tommy Dunbar, drummer-singer Donn Spindt and bassist-singer Royse Ader are obviously having a blast as they tear through a set in the studio (engineered and mixed by Glen Kolotkin). The range of the material is vast to be sure, with magical covers of the Beatles' "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand," a brash reading of the Archies' "Sugar, Sugar," a flashy take on the surf rock instrumental classic "Walk Don't Run" and adult version of the DeFranco Family's "Heartbeat, It's a Lovebeat" among my favorite covers on the set; a trio of originals (the propulsive "All Excited," punk rocker "I Want Her So Bad" and inspired "Nooshna Kavolta") fit in nicely. Fifty years after they set out on their musical odyssey, the Rubinoos are still going strong; "The CBS Tapes" revisits the troupe's captivating infancy. Information: YepRoc.com.

Tell me more: Winning songcraft, stunning vocal harmonies, detailed arrangements and strong musicianship never go out of style. Listen no further than the incredible Wanderlust album All A View. This is an album that should have arrived 25 years ago, but is thankfully here in the summer of 2021. Wanderlust formed in Philadelphia in 1993, signed a record deal with RCA Records in 1994, and released their critically-acclaimed debut Prize in 1995 (The Sunday London Times declared Wanderlust's album Prize upon its release as one of the "best rock albums ever made"). Front man and principle songwriter Scot Sax, guitarist Rob Bonfiglio, bassist Mark Getten and drummer Jim Cavanaugh reconvened during the COVID-19 pandemic after Sax came across a DAT tape featuring songs written after the release of "Prize" and set out to complete the work they had started back in the 1990s. The wealth of songs on All A View includes the psychedelic-swept title cut, chamber pop gem "Something Happens," sumptuous "2 Million Pieces," masterful power pop sortie "Corduroy Moon," Crowded House-flavored "Trick of the Light" and wistful melodic charmer "Inspiration." Title: Joy Machine (Outhouse Records)

Tell me more: The classic sounds of '70s blues, jazz rock, funk and classic rock are celebrated on Joy Machine, the third album from New York-based collective Circus Mind. Headed by band leader Mark Rechler (vocals, keyboards), the group also includes bassist Chris Crosby, guitarist Dave Berg, drummer Dan Roth and percussionist Steve Finkelstein along with a full horn section (trombonist Pablo Rodriguez, trumpet player Damien Pacheco and sax players Michael Amendola and Richard Bomzer). Blues, rock, jazz and funk are fused perfectly across the captivating 10-track disc; the infectious "Mean Mutha Fucka" (with guest Max Newman), Steely Dan-flavored title track, aptly-titled "Jazzfest Time" and poignant "Errand Boy" are definite showcases for how capably Circus Mind fuses its influences into something that is the group's own. Several of the album's great tracks are bolstered by the incredible fret work of guest guitarist Brandon "Taz" Niederauer; indeed the funkadelic "Are You Ready" and reflective psychedelia-tinged dreamscape "Air Waves" soar. Title: Let It Go (Tamara L. Wilson)

You might like if you enjoy: Donna Summer, Cheryl Lynn, Ruthie Foster

Tell me more: Tamara L. Wilson's new EP Let It Go is a welcome introduction to the songstress, whose work recalls a number of classic and contemporary genres. The heartfelt opener "It's Your Life (Believe)" has a decidedly positive vibe, and that spirit continues across the rest of the four-track disc. The soul-infused dance track "Little More Love Remix" is catchy; "Let It Go" has an arc extending from its laid back intro to a cool groove for most of its run. "Have It All" closes out the release, Wilson's affecting soprano vocals building with the song's ascent. Information: tamaralwilson.com.
