OHANA FESTIVAL will once again return to beautiful Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA for a third year this September with performances from Eric Church, Eddie Vedder, Mumford & Sons, Beck, Norah Jones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amos Lee, Liz Phair and many others (full line-up below). The acclaimed three-day festival--set for Friday, September 28, Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30--celebrates some of the top singers, songwriters and musicians, taking place just steps away from the sands of one of Southern California's most iconic beaches.

After a successful launch in 2016 OHANA returned in 2017 as an expanded three-day event with more than 35,000 attendees. In the "Ohana" tradition of family, the grassy festival site is dotted with blankets and fans enjoying a weekend of music, food and activities.

The initial 2018 OHANA line-up is as follows: Eric Church, Eddie Vedder, Mumford & Sons, Norah Jones, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Amos Lee, Liz Phair, Young the Giant, Nikki Lane, Bahamas, Switchfoot w/ Rob Machado, John Doe Folk Trio, Plague Vendor, Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness, Hiss Golden Messenger, The White Buffalo, NoMBe, Fantastic Negrito, The War + Treaty, Lauren Ruth Ward, Allan Rayman, Dave Hause, Nick Hakim, Kevin Devine, Billy Raffoul, Timmy Curran, Lilly Hiatt, The Palms, Desure, The Alive.
Here's some media feedback on OHANA 2017:
"...a unique concert with a salty-air twist...Ohana, which translates to "family" in Hawaiian, is more than just about music. The event serves as a fundraiser for ocean-minded nonprofits, including the Wyland Foundation, the Ocean Institute, the San Onofre Parks Foundation and Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association."
--OC REGISTER, 9-9-2017
"It's location at the idyllic Doheny State Beach makes it easy to go for a surf in the morning, and take in tunes in the afternoon."
--OC WEEKLY, 9-11-2017
"Ohana Fest, the three-day music festival organized by Eddie Vedder and his pro surfing buddy Kelly Slater, returned to Dana Point, California's Doheny State Beach for its second year yesterday. Last year, Vedder was everywhere at the fest, performing with Elvis Costello, X, Jack Irons, Band Of Horses, and more, and it seems like he's making it his mission to play with everyone at this year's fest too."
--STEREOGUM, 9-9-2017
"This past weekend, Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder headlined the Ohana Fest in Dana Point, California's Doheny State Beach. It was the second year of the festival, which Vedder and pro surfer Kelly Slater organized, and it looks like it was a good time."
--STEREOGUM, 9-12-2017
"Eddie Vedder has played a big role in the emergence of the Ohana Festival on the music scene, so it's fitting that he was popping up all over the place this weekend."
--LOUDWIRE, 9-10-2017
"Set up on a stretch of pristine California beach and state park grounds, with an eclectic line-up of friends, admired artists, and buzz-making newcomers all curated by Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder, the three-day event was an even more expanded version from its previous year's debut. The laid back vibe of what is turning out to be the summer's best music festival, included an abundance of various food trucks, drink options and family friendly activities including an on-site video arcade, various interactive games, food tastings and a row of hammocks that if you were lucky enough to score you could swing on and soak up the sun and sweet ocean air."
--CIVILIZED, 9-13-2017
"The Ohana Festival, curated by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, was another massive success in its second year of existence. Thousands of music fans flocked to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California for the three-day festival which featured the likes of The Pixies, Eddie Vedder, Social Distortion, Haim, and Jack Johnson. The festival produced some impressive collaborations between Vedder and many of the other headlining bands, with Apple joining Vedder during his headlining set on the second day of the festival to perform the Neil Young classic "Rockin' in the Free World."

Austin City Limits Announces New Class of Hall of Fame Inductees

Breaking news of interest to...everybody who loves music!

Austin City Limits Announces New Class of Hall of Fame Inductees: Asleep at the Wheel, Loretta Lynn, Guy Clark, Flaco Jiménez and Townes Van Zandt

Induction Ceremony To Be Held in June 2015

Loretta Lynn has appeared on Austin City Limits twice
Austin, TX—JANUARY 30, 2015—Austin City Limits (ACL) is proud to announce the newest class of Austin City Limits Hall of Fame inductees with five legendary artists being honored: Western swing institution Asleep at the Wheel, country trailblazer Loretta Lynn, songwriting legend Guy Clark, master Tex-Mex accordionist Flaco Jiménez and Texas troubadour Townes Van Zandt. The announcement was made yesterday evening by ACL Executive Producer Terry Lickona at Austin's Rattle Inn.  The 2015 ACL Hall of Fame inductees will be celebrated at a ceremony highlighted by all-star music performances to be held in June at ACL's studio home, Austin’s ACL Live at The Moody Theater. The event will be open to the public and ticket onsale information will be announced at a later date.

The newest class of inductees features artists who have all graced the ACL stage multiple times, setting the standard for excellence and contributing to four decades of incredible performances. This year's class also recognizes in the non-performer category the original ACL crew, who played an important role in the launch and continuing success of the influential series and some of whom are still part of the crew today.

I am truly honored to be included in this year’s ACL Hall of Fame,” said Asleep at the Wheel founder Ray Benson who was on hand for the announcement.  “After Willie did the pilot in 1974-5, Asleep at the Wheel was selected to do the first regular episode of ACL.  Joe Gracey and I were roommates then, and he was booking the show.  He asked who we wanted to share the bill with and I said, ‘The Texas Playboys, Bob Wills' great band!’  That episode is now housed at the Smithsonian.  Over the years I have appeared in numerous episodes both as a featured performer and a guest performer, and I cannot imagine our 45-year career without the exposure that ACL afforded us. Many thanks to the great staff who make the show what it is!”

ACL also announced the first round of new tapings for the series upcoming Season 41: breakout country rebel and Grammy-nominated Sturgill Simpson, acclaimed rock outfit The War on Drugs, and, in a special Bob Wills’ tribute, new Hall of Fame inductees Asleep at the Wheel, joined by guest stars including The Avett Brothers and Amos Lee.

New episodes of ACL are currently airing as part of the series’ milestone Season 40, with upcoming premieres featuring The Black Keys (Jan. 31) and Foo Fighters (Feb. 7). Foo Fighters recently immortalized ACL in an episode of their HBO series Sonic Highways, even recording a song, “What Did I Do?/God As My Witness,” in ACL's historic Studio 6A.  ACL closes out this triumphant season with a special installment premiering Feb. 14, featuring inductions and performance highlights from the first-ever Austin City Limits Hall of Fame presentation.

The Austin City Limits Hall of Fame was established in 2014 in conjunction with the iconic television series' 40th Anniversary to celebrate the legacy of legendary artists and key individuals who have been instrumental in the landmark series remarkable 40 years as an American music institution. The invitation-only inaugural induction ceremony took place April 26, 2014 at ACL’s original Studio 6A. Hosted by Oscar-winning actor and Texas native Matthew McConaughey, the historic evening honored the first class of inductees, featuring American music icon Willie Nelson who starred on the original ACL pilot program, Austin blues rock giants Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and legendary steel guitarist and Grammy Award-winning music producer Lloyd Maines, in addition to non-performers who played a key role in the evolution of the program: original show creator Bill Arhos and longtime ACL supporter, Texas Longhorns football head coach Darrell Royal. A star-studded line-up paid tribute with incredible music performances, including: Lyle Lovett, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Guy, Robert Randolph, Doyle Bramhall IIand Kenny Wayne Shepherd.

About the Austin City Limits Hall of Fame Honorees:

Asleep at the Wheel

Based in Austin, TX, Asleep at the Wheel formed in Paw Paw, West Virginia in 1970. Since their inception, the venerable Texas swing band lead by founder Ray Benson has won nine GRAMMY awards, released more than 20 studio albums and charted more than 20 singles on the Billboard country charts. In 1972, the band signed their first record deal after Van Morrison mentioned they “play great country music” in an interview in Rolling Stone. They have appeared on Austin City Limits ten times, including the program’s first official episode in 1976 along with The Texas Playboys.  Asleep at the Wheel’s star-studded upcoming release Still the King: Celebrating the Music of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys features guest appearances by ACL veterans Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, The Avett Brothers, George Strait, Kat Edmonson and Merle Haggard.

Flaco Jiménez

San Antonio, TX born Tex-Mex conjunto musician Flaco Jiménez has enjoyed a career that has spanned more than six decades, throughout which, he has collaborated with artists such as Willie Nelson, the Texas Tornados, Bob Dylan, Ry Cooder, Doug Sahm, and The Rolling Stones. Jiménez is a five-time ACL guest, first appearing in the program’s debut season. A five-time GRAMMY winner who is also a 2015 recipient of a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award, Jiménez maintains a huge influence on the Tex-Mex genre by continuing to record and tour, as he upholds his status as the definitive Tex-Mex accordionist.

Loretta Lynn

An American music treasure with a storied career, Loretta Lynn is a living legend with over seventy chart hits, a Presidential Medal of Freedom, a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award and a Kennedy Center Honor. She appeared on two classic episodes of ACL in 1983 and 1998. As her most famous song says, she is a proud Kentucky-born coal miner’s daughter, who went on to become one of the most influential women in the history of American music.

Townes Van Zandt

One of the Lone Star state’s greatest songwriters, the Fort Worth native set the standard for legions of Texas troubadours and made two memorable appearances on ACL. Van Zandt appeared in the very first season in 1976, in addition to joining Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Butch Hancock and David Halley for a renowned ACL songwriters special in 1983. ACL aired a tribute show in 1998 led by longtime friend Guy Clark and Townes' son J.T. that was so popular it encored in 2000 as an ACL Classic. Called “one of the best songwriters that ever lived” by many, Van Zandt left behind an inestimable legacy – a few of his classics include “Pancho & Lefty,” “To Live is To Fly,” “If I Needed You,” “Tecumseh Valley,” “Waitin’ Round to Die,” “Lungs” and “A Song For.”

Guy Clark

A West Texas native, Guy Clark has built a career of writing starkly honest story-songs. He's one of the finest living songwriters in American folk music, holding up the legacy of his late friend Townes Van Zandt. NPR raves “If you want to learn how to write a song — one that's built to last, with vivid characters and images that plant you squarely inside a scene — listen to Guy Clark.” Bob Dylan counts Clark among his handful of favorite songwriters. His first album Old No. 1 came out in 1975 and the revered songwriter has made seven stunning appearances on ACL.

STATUS QUO
The Frantic Four's Final Fling – Live At The Dublin 02 Arena
Out September 30 on earMUSIC / Eagle Rock Entertainment

When the last notes rang out in the Dublin o2 on Saturday, April 12, 2014, the 9000 fans packing the venue knew that they were witnessing the end of something special.  The reunion that nobody thought would ever be possible had happened, but now the itch was scratched and that particular book was closed.
On September 30, 2014, Status Quo will commemorate one very special night with the North American release of The Frantic Four’s Final Fling – Live At The Dublin 02 Arena on 2CD, double vinyl, and digital audio through earMUSIC / Edel / Eagle Rock Entertainment.
When the original line-up of Status Quo reunited for a 9-date UK tour in March 2013 the outpouring of approval and raw emotion from the fans was incredible. Public demand made the final tour of 2014 mandatory and it was just as emotional. RossiParfittLancaster and Coghlan received a rapturous response; the band clicked straight back into their groove, the chemistry obvious, the music stunning and the volume almost overpowering.  It all led to Dublin; the final show of the final tour. Ever.
The Frantic Four tours were highlights in a career that has seen Quo achieve more than anyone dreamed possible.  The Times (UK) said, “It sounded fantastic.  And they, like us, were clearly getting a tremendous kick out of revisiting these long-neglected songs.”  Classic Rock said, quite simply, “F*ck me, dreams can come true!” Dublin was a genuine milestone on the incredible road that Quo have traveled, and it’s captured in all its glory here: The Frantic Four´s Final Fling – Live At The Dublin 02 Arena.

Live from Daryl's House hosts Amos Lee

Daryl Hall continues to hit it out of the park, or, should I say "house," on his outstanding and groundbreaking music series. His latest guest is singer-songwriter Amos Lee, who blew me away when I reviewed him at House of Blues Anaheim in January 2011. Read my review of that concert that ran in The Orange County Register here, and check out details on the new episode of 'Live from Daryl's House' below...

'Live from Daryl's House' on Palladia
Daryl Hall and Amos Lee christen his new
clubhouse/venue/restaurant on latest installment, premiered last night,
Feb. 27 on Palladia, and will be shown April 15 on LFDH.com, featuring Daryl solo rarity "I'm in a Philly Mood" and Mutlu guest-starring on "Caramel"

Live from Daryl's House celebrates it's Philadelphia roots in its new Pawling, N.Y., location as fellow City of Brotherly Love native Amos Lee joins Daryl Hall for the show's 66th and latest installment. The episode premiered on Viacom's high-definition music channel Palladia on Thursday, February 27 and will be available on the VH1 App on March 7 before being made available April 15 on Daryl's dedicated LFDH.com website, the first to be filmed at Daryl's still-under-construction new "clubhouse," a combination concert venue and restaurant he is currently restoring as a future home for the show.

One-time schoolteacher Lee and Daryl team up for a seven-song performance that includes an eclectic set list that includes a rare Daryl Hall solo song, the aptly named R&B harmonies of "I'm in a Philly Mood," from his 1993 Soul Alone album, as well as a  pair of Hall and Oates classics, including "When the Morning Comes," the first track on their 1973 Abandoned Luncheonette album, "The Method of Modern Love," a Top 5 hit on 1984's smash Big Bam Boom album. Amos and the band also run through two songs from his self-titled 2004 Blue Note debut, "Keep It Loose, Keep It Tight," a song about rising rents and gentrification in his old Philly neighborhood, and "Seen It All Before," reminiscent of a cross between The Band at its most soulful and "Knockin' On Heaven's Door." There are also takes on "Windows are Rolled Down," from his chart-topping 2011 Mission Bell album and a version of "Caramel," by his longtime bandmate and opening act Mutlu, who sits in on vocals for a song that the two played on the Norah Jones tour.

In the regular cooking segment, Daryl's old pal and namesake from nearby Vinny's Deli demonstrates the many uses of Daryl's House Marinara Sauce by using it to cook a seafood fra diavolo, with shrimp, scungilli, clams and pasta, as well as a pizza.

Lee raved about the experience: "We had a great time doing Live from Daryl's House. Everyone was really cool and we had a lot of fun. I just saw them over the past year at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville and at the Tower in Philadelphia. I'm more of a fan now than I was before. I really respect Daryl as a writer."

Added Daryl: "We had a good time. We got Philadelphia-ized, and pretty funky. Some funk was definitely had."

Amos has toured with legendary artists like Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, collaborated with Norah Jones, Lucinda Williams and Zac Brown Band, and been touted as a favorite songwriter and performer by The Band Perry and Lady Antebellum. He followed his 2004 debut with the critically acclaimed Supply and Demand (2006) and Last Days at the Lodge (2008). 2011's Mission Bell entered the Billboard 200, Amazon, and iTunes charts at # 1 and contained the chart-topping Triple A radio hit "Windows are Rolled Down." His latest album, Mountains of Sorrow, Rivers of Song (2013), topped the Americana radio chart for two consecutive months, featuring guest appearances by Alison Krauss and Patti Griffin. The New York Times hailed it as "serenely sure-footed" while Elmore noted it "may be Lee's finest yet."

Lee will appear on an upcoming Jimmy Kimmel Live!, guest on Tavis in March and be featured on an episode of PBS' Music City Roots, a new variety show hosted by Jim Lauderdale in Nashville. This summer, he is scheduled to perform at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival (June 12-15) and Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE (June 17-19).He will be accompanied by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra when he plays his first headline show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO, on August 1. Amos is donating $1 from each ticket sold for the tour to Musicians on Call (www.musiciansoncall.org/amos), a non-profit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities.

The past seven years have marked a steady stream of superlatives and recognition for Live from Daryl's House, with Hall receiving a Webby Award for Best Variety series from more than 10,000 entries at the 14th annual ceremony at N.Y.'s Cipriani Wall Street before garnering an O Music Award from MTV.

Live from Daryl's House executive producers are Hall and manager Jonathan Wolfson.

The 65 previous episodes of Live From Daryl's House have featured a mix of well-known performers like Gavin DeGraw, ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons, Jason Mraz, The Voice's Cee Lo Green, Shelby Lynne, Joe Walsh, Booker T and the MGs, Blind Boys of Alabama, Rob Thomas, Train, Smokey Robinson, The Doors' Robby Krieger and Ray Manzarek, Toots Hibbert, Nick Lowe, K.T. Tunstall, Todd Rundgren, Keb Mo, Dave Stewart, Goo Goo Dolls' John Rzeznik and Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump, along with newcomers such as Grizzly Bear, Rumer, Allen Stone, the Dirty Heads, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Mayer Hawthorne, Chromeo, Matt Nathanson, Parachute, Plain White T's, soul diva Sharon Jones, Diane Birch, L.A. neo-R&B party band Fitz & the Tantrums and Neon Trees.

"In any sane universe Sparks are big. It’s pop that got small.”
 – The Independent
In response to the overwhelming reception of Sparks’ last North American tour — not to mention the band’s recent Coachella debut — L.A.’s pop provocateurs Sparks are excited to announce a brand new fall tour. Returning to North America with The Revenge Of Two Hands One Mouth Tour, brothers Ron and Russell Mael have crafted new sets of material drawn from the band’s extensive discography and back catalogue. With no band and no computers, Ron (two hands . . . on keyboards) and Russell (one mouth . . . on vocals) will present the very essence of Sparks and their impressive catalogue in a show of impact, energy and aggression.
For those who saw the tour in its first incarnation, we promise to keep the intensity up, the two-hands, one-mouthiness up, the no-computeriness up, and also perform a bunch of tunes not played on the original tour,” says Russell Mael. Full tour dates below.
Over the band’s four decades of existence, Sparks has consistently proved to be ten steps ahead of their peers, pioneering and transforming in ways few would’ve ever predicted. Enigmatic and shape-shifting, Sparks has defined numerous genres, ranging from the psychedelic rock of 1972’sA Woofer In Tweeters Clothing to 1979’s landmark Giorgio Moroder collaboration No. 1 In Heaven. They’ve written a Swedish rock opera (The Seduction of Ingmar Bergman), synth-pop opuses (Gratuitous Sax and Senseless Violins), and even helped define the sound of U.K. glam (Kimono My House) — nevermind that the duo hail from Los Angeles. The band’s recent work found Sparks exploring the depths of baroque pop, a sound defined by their album trilogy of Lil BeethovenHello Young Lovers, and Exotic Creatures of The Deep, the first of which was hailed by the New York Times as “the most ambitious album [Sparks] have made.”
Having inspired musicians and delighted fans throughout the years with their extraordinary songwriting and inimitable style, Sparks’ live shows have become increasingly spectacular. In 2008, they performed all 21 albums in 21 nights in London. In 2011, the band’s 22nd record, The Seduction Of Ingmar Bergman, was performed as a live musical at the Los Angeles Film Festival. Now, having stripped away the band, the computers and any lavish production, their whipsmart, penetrating lyrics and those incomparable melodies are once again presented in this scintillating, intimate format.

THE WORLD’S END SOUNDTRACK COMING FROM ABKCO AUGUST 20
MUSIC-RICH NEW MOVIE FROM CREATORS OF SHAUN OF THE DEAD AND HOT FUZZ  INCLUDES HITS FROM PRIMAL SCREAM, THE SOUP DRAGONS, STONE ROSES, BLUR, PULP, SUEDE, AND MORE…
ABKCO Records will release The World’s End – Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on Tuesday August 20th, available both on CD and through digital retail outlets. The film is a Focus Features Presentation in association with Relativity Media of a Working Title production in association with Big Talk Pictures. Focus Features releases the “Barmageddon” comedy nationwide on Friday, August 23rd.

The World’s End (www.TheWorldsEndMovie.com) reunites the dynamic team of director/screenwriter Edgar Wright, actor/screenwriter Simon Pegg, and actor Nick Frost. Their previous movies together were the fan favorites Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. ABKCO and Edgar Wright last collaborated on the hit soundtrack to his 2010 film Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.

A signature brew of camaraderie, knockabout humor, excessive quaffing, questionable life choices, hand-to-hand combat and explosive surprises, The World’s End’s eclectic soundtrack channels the songs the five main characters heard over 20 years ago when they first attempted an epic pub crawl. Primal Scream’s “Loaded” is something of a theme for the action in The World’s End, and is featured along with high-profile tracks from Blur, The Soup Dragons, Pulp, Suede, Teenage Fanclub, Stone Roses, Sisters of Mercy (whose t-shirt Simon Pegg’s character Gary King wears throughout the film) – and even The Doors’ iconic take on Brecht and Weill’s “Alabama Song (Whisky Bar).”  The physical album totals 18 selections (see Tracklist below).

Director/screenwriter Wright notes, “My new film with Simon Pegg revolves around a man that wants his teens to go on forever. I think many can sympathize with that. This is as much a soundtrack to our school and college days as it is to the film. When I listen to songs from my teens it triggers all sorts of sights, sounds, and abstract memories of the radio and the television, of watching vinyl spin and of making endless compilation tapes. When Simon Pegg and myself wrote the screenplay for the film, we listened to a 300-strong playlist of songs, mainly from 1988 to 1993. Big pop hits, groundbreaking dance smashes, and all the indie gold of our youth. We never, ever tired of them. It powered our writing as much as it powers Gary’s quest.”
