Los Angeles — August 20, 2021 — A hymn to simple pleasures and universal emotions, Roger Taylor's new single “We're All Just Trying to Get By” is available now. Building on more than half a century in music, both inside and outside Queen, this achingly beautiful ballad is a classy curtain-raiser for Roger's first solo album in eight years, Outsider, due for release October 1. The song was conceived in the dark depths of lockdown but taps into brighter feelings, musing on the communal bonds and survival instincts that unite all creatures great and small, even in times of division and isolation.

“We're All Just Trying to Get By” is a gorgeous piece of dreamy pop with a sweeping widescreen melody, a radiant glow and a quietly profound, ultimately uplifting message. Couched in luxuriant liquid guitar and ambient seagull effects, Roger's wry lyric marvels at how every living thing on Planet Earth, from mighty mammals to tiny insects, from humans to microbes, ultimately has the same aim: to survive, to thrive, and to co-exist as harmoniously as possible.

Like a David Attenborough TV series condensed into three transcendent minutes, “We're All Just Trying to Get By” feels like a healing balm for the senses after more than a year of pandemic anxiety and socially distanced separation. The song's underlying philosophy is inclusive, humane and quietly optimistic.
“I tried to highlight the great things in life,” Roger explains. “It's the simplest statement really. It's what every life force on Earth is doing: just trying to get by and proliferate and exist. That's all we are trying to do, from plants to animals to humans, trying to survive. For all our troubles and everything, every sort of life is all just trying to get by. Also, of course, we are in the middle of a bloody pandemic.”

Roger's inspired choice of vocal guest on “We're All Just Trying to Get By” is KT Tunstall, the much-feted Scottish singer-songwriter whose prize-winning career includes multiple Brits and an Ivor Novello award. A late addition to the song's recording process, KT adds bluesy, grainy counterpoint to Roger's soulfully husky sighs, a delicious blend of voices that bridges musical genres and generations.
“The track was all finished and it was suggested it might be nice if we got KT involved,” Roger recalls. “I love what she did, I think it really adds to the track. And she's very clever. I think people forget that she was really the pioneer as far as I know of looping, the looping technique which obviously Ed Sheeran is brilliant at and has made very popular. But I remember her doing it, what, 15 years ago? Fantastic. She's a very talented singer and musician and it's lovely to have her on the track. It's a very nice partnership.”

For her part, Tunstall was thrilled at the invitation to collaborate with a songwriting legend and inspirational icon. “It was the coolest surprise Roger getting in touch during lockdown and asking me to lend my vocals to this great and meaningful song,” she says. “What a pleasure to work with such a brilliant writer and musical hero.”
Following the single's release, Roger and his band plan to launch the Outsider album in grand style with a 14-date UK tour in October. Promising a set list of solo career tracks old and new, plus some crowd-pleasing Queen classics, this is great news for the music-starved masses as we finally emerge from enforced hibernation. Nature is healing, the seasons are changing, soon we can come together again in shared celebration. We are all just trying to get by.

Featuring Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House), Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse), Phil Selway (Radiohead), Ed O’Brien (Radiohead), Tim Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House), Lisa Germano, Wilco members Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone and more, plus Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) in the bonus feature of the 2001 7 World’s Collide concert!

In 2001, New Zealand singer/ songwriter Neil Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House), put together a multi-artist concert called 7 Worlds Collide. The live concert turned into an album collaboration with Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Johnny Marr (The Smiths, Modest Mouse), Phil Selway (Radiohead), Ed O’Brien (Radiohead), Tim Finn (Split Enz, Crowded House) & Lisa Germano. In 2009, Finn invited his friends back to New Zealand for three weeks to record a second album and perform in three concerts, with proceeds going to the international charity Oxfam, an aid organization that supports ending world poverty and injustice. On April 10, 2012, Cinema Libre Studio will release, on DVD and digital download, the inspiring, behind-the-scenes film, THE SUN CAME OUT, which documents the creative process 20 artist went through to produce 10 songs in just three weeks. The film also includes an exclusive release of the live 2001 7 World’s Collide, The Sun Came Out concert featuring Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.

THE SUN CAME OUT, directed by Simon Mark-Brown, is an amazing glimpse into the musical collaboration process between Neil Finn and the great musicians he assembled together for a special cause. Finn invited the 7 World’s Collide alumni, as well as, some more of music’s biggest names including; Don McGlashan, Bic Runga, Glenn Richards, KT Tunstall and Wilco members Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt, Glenn Kotche & Pat Sansone, and their families to his personal studio in Auckland, New Zealand for a three week recording session of original material contributed by everyone involved.

Some of the songs that were cultivated and performed during this three week journey are; “Reptile" by Lisa Germano, “Too Blue" by Johnny Marr & Jeff Tweedy, "Little by Little" by Sharon Finn & Neil Finn, "Girl, Make Your Own Mind Up" by Don McGlashan, "Black Silk Ribbon" by KT Tunstall & Bic Runga and many, many more.

SYNOPSIS:
In 2001 Neil Finn, lead singer and member of the popular band Crowded House, gathered together some of music’s most prolific artists for a charity concert. Included were, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Johnny Marr of The Smiths, Phil Selway and Ed O’Brien from Radiohead, Sebastian Steinberg of Soul Coffin and Lisa Germano. They staged three amazing concerts under the moniker 7 Worlds Collide and it was a huge success.

Now seven years later, in New Zealand on the west coast of Auckland , Neil has done it again and this time he invited, KT Tunstall and Wilco to the line-up. In addition to the three concerts, they recorded an album of new songs -- in just three weeks. Go behind the scenes and watch as these amazing artists conceive, write, tweak, record and perform these songs. Experience their creative process and their camaraderie as they work together for a bigger purpose, to raise money for Oxfam.

THE SUN CAME OUT is an inspiring, very intimate look at some of the best musicians in the world gathering in a place of spectacular beauty to record all new songs with a strict time limit, no real plan but enough goodwill to do it all for charity.
