Tell me more: The 11th album released by the Beach Boys was definitely a keeper. Pet Sounds is one of those amazing albums like the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and the Zombies' Odyssey and Oracle that continues to win converts as time races on. And the wonder of the Beach Boys' masterpiece is wonderfully detailed courtesy of the latest "Classic Albums" documentary series, Classic Albums – Pet Sounds available Sept. 23, 2016. The creation of "Pet Sounds," recorded in late 1965 and early 1966, is well detailed in this winning documentary that is bolstered by interviews with all the surviving members of the Beach Boys and other involved in the disc's creation. Tell me more: Just when you think you have heard everything the Beatles have ever recorded, along comes another jewel to help celebrate the legacy of the Fab Four. Released earlier this month, the Beatles' Live at the Hollywood Bowl (available on audio CD, vinyl and digitally) truly captures the energy and fan frenzy of Beatlemania. Recorded at the Hollywood Bowl during a trio of sold-out summertime dates in 1964 and 1965, the original recordings have been remastered by Giles Martin, the talented son of the Beatles' late producer George Martin. New York (August 1, 2016)— Eagle Rock Entertainment uncovers the story behind the Everly Brothers, with the 2DVD, DVD+Blu-ray, and Digital Format release of documentary film Harmonies From Heaven on September 9, 2016.

This new Everly Brothers documentary, which was broadcast on BBC4 earlier in the year, contains additional bonus interviews not included in the broadcast version, along with a DVD of a previously unreleased live performance recorded for Australian TV at Chequers Nightclub in 1968. This never-before-seen concert footage includes incredible live versions of “Bye Bye Love,” “Cathy’s Clown,” “Wake Up Little Susie,” “Bird Dog,” “(Til) I Kissed You,” “So Sad (To Watch Good Love Go Bad),” “Let It Be Me,” and more!

Harmonies From Heaven tells the story of Phil and Don Everly, focusing on the heyday of their careers in the fifties and sixties. Featuring new interview footage with surviving brother Don and archive interviews with Phil, the film follows their career from child performers on their father’s radio show, through their move to Nashville and their relationship with publishers Acuff-Rose. The DVD specifically delves into their relationship with the songwriting team of Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, who provided many of their early hits, including their first million-seller “Bye Bye Love”.

Harmonies From Heaven also features interviews with those inspired by the Everly Brothers, including Art Garfunkel, Keith Richards, Graham Nash, Dave Edmunds, Tim Rice, Albert Lee, and Waddy Wachtel, and highlights their influence on younger generations of artists with English musician/singer-songwriter Jake Bugg (who punctuates the film with two exclusive acoustic performances of classic Everly Brothers songs).

Blending the amazing story of the Everly Brothers with previously unseen performances and fascinating interviews, Harmonies From Heaven is an incredible study of the influence and musical magic behind these famed brothers.

April 24, 2014 - (Burbank, CA.) -   Neil Young will release a CD, digital album and a Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set of his recent vinyl album A Letter Home on Reprise Records on May 27^th. The box set is a beautifully packaged expanded version of the vinyl edition first released on April 18th by Jack White's Third Man Records. Young recorded the collection of covers with White on a refurbished 1947 Voice-O-Graph recording booth at Third Man's Nashville headquarters. Imagine a very simple recording studio not much larger than a phone booth and you'll get the idea.  He describes the album as "an unheard collection of rediscovered songs from the past recorded on ancient electro-mechanical technology captures and unleashes the essence of something that could have been gone forever."  Recorded live to track to one-track, mono, the album has an inherent warm, primitive feel of a vintage Folkways recording,

As for the track-listing, Young chose songs that have personal meaning for him, such as British folk artist Bert Jansch's "Needle of Death" (which inspired Young to write 1972's "Needle and the Damage Done"), Bob Dylan's "Girl from the North Country," Willie Nelson's "Crazy," Don Everly's"I Wonder If I Care as Much," Bruce Springsteen's "My Home Town," and many others.  Clickhere to watch a video for "Needle of Death"

The album begins with Neil recording a spoken letter to his late mother, informing her of his personal and present state of affairs which sets the tone and atmosphere for the duration of the album. He does this once again at the beginning of Side 2 in a way which could explain why he's selected these particular songs to record. In essence, this presentation is, as its title implies, A Letter Home from Neil. This is a deeply personal and expressive listening experience which is as real and raw emotionally as it is sonically and yet light of touch in its form and flow.

Reprise will release the complete box set, which includes a special "direct feed from the booth" audiophile vinyl version and a DVD that captured the original electro-mechanical process, along with comments from the producers and recording engineers. It includes:

The music world is still reflecting on the loss of Phil Everly this past Friday, Jan. 3. Billboard has an interesting story on how British guitarist Albert Lee helped the Everly Brothers mend fences leading up to their 1983 reunion concert.
