Warner Music [Sony Music outside Europe] today announced the upcoming release of Pink Floyd’s ‘Animals’ on Deluxe Gatefold, CD, LP, Blu-ray and SACD. The individual versions will be available on September 16, 2022 with the Deluxe version available from October 7, 2022. It was recorded at the band's Britannia Row Studios in London throughout 1976 and early 1977, and was produced by the band themselves. The successful album peaked at number 2 in the UK and number 3 in the US, and is considered as one of the band's best works. The album was recorded by band members David Gilmour, Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Richard Wright.   'Animals 2018 Remix' will be released on CD, LP (with gatefold artwork), Blu-ray, SACD and Deluxe Gatefold formats. The Deluxe Gatefold version includes LP, CD, audio Blu-ray, audio DVD and a 32-page book. The Blu-ray and DVD audio include the 2018 remix in Stereo, 5.1 Surround (both by James Guthrie) and the original 1977 Stereo mix. The 32-page booklet features rarely seen behind the scenes photographs of the album sleeve shoot along with live images and memorabilia. The album was developed from a collection of unrelated songs into a concept which describes the apparent social and moral decay of society, likening the human condition to that of animals. Taking inspiration from George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the album depicts the different classes of people as animals with pigs being at the top of the social chain, dropping down to the sheep as the mindless herd following what they are told, with dogs as the business bosses getting fat on the money and power they hold over the other. Although it’s been a long time since 1977, the narrative of the album still resonates today as our social and economic situation mirrors that of the time.   The album's iconic cover shows an inflatable pig (now known as Algie) floating between two chimneys of the Battersea Power Station, conceived by Roger Waters, and designed by long-time collaborator Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis Studios. For this new release, the artwork has been re-designed for the modern era by Storm’s Hipgnosis partner Aubrey ‘Po’ Powell. Taking new shots of the building as it appeared during the recent conversion work, Po experimented with new angles and produce some striking new takes on the classic original. Los Angeles, CA – September 17, 2021 – Celebrating its 45 anniversary, Destroyer was originally released in 1976 and is considered to be one of the quintessential KISS albums. It is the band’s first album to sell one million copies in its first year and holds the title of being their all-time best selling studio album. Packed with concert staples and KISS Army favorites including “Detroit Rock City,” “Shout It Out Loud,” “God Of Thunder” and “Beth,” on November 19, 2021 UMe will release KISS – Destroyer 45th in the form of a Super Deluxe 4-CD + Blu-ray Audio box set as well as on standard double black vinyl and limited edition yellow and red double colored vinyl, 2-CD set, and digital. Destroyer 45^thcan be pre-ordered, HERE.

 

For the recording of Destroyer, Bob Ezrin was brought in as KISS’s new producer, helping the band reach new levels, both sonically and creatively. The album also showed the band’s growth as musicians and songwriters, experimenting with new sounds which came in the form of the softer side of songs like “Do You Love Me?,” and songs heavy with orchestral arrangements including “Great Expectations” and their Billboard No. 7 hit single “Beth.” Following the breakthrough success of 1975’s No. 9 Billboard charting Alive!, Destroyer was the KISS album that brought them to the forefront of the mainstream and transformed them into global rock icons. For its anniversary, UMe celebrates this seminal album’s legacy with a staggering amount of bonus material. 

 

CD 1 includes the original album newly remastered at Abbey Road Mastering, while CD 2 features 15 demos from Paul Stanley’s and Gene Simmons’s personal archives – 9 of which are unreleased. CD 3 is packed with studio outtakes, alternate versions / mixes and single edits – most notably a brand-new stripped-down mix for “Beth (Acoustic Mix),” and CD 4 contains an electrifying performance from the band’s visit to Paris France at the L’Olympia on May 22, 1976. For the Blu-ray Audio disc, Steven Wilson was brought in to create a first-ever Dolby Atmos and 5.1 surround mix of the original studio album plus 2 bonus tracks “Beth (Acoustic Mix)” and “Sweet Pain (Original Guitar Solo)” the latter featuring Ace Frehley’s original recorded guitar solo that was not released on the studio album (this track is available on the 2012 Destroyer: Resurrected project.)

The Beatles' 'Let It Be' Special Edition Releases announced

Big news today with The Beatles' announcement that several configurations of the band's Let It Be overseen by Giles Martin (the son of the group's late producer George Martin) are set to arrive on Oct. 15, 2021. The Beatles announce the release of 'Let It Be' 50th Anniversary edition; expanded box set coming Oct. 15

It has been rumored for weeks and now comes the official announcement. The Beatles will release an expanded box set of their classic Let It Be on Oct. 15, 2021.

The "Special Edition (Super Deluxe)" version of the collection will include 57 tracks spread out over five audio CDs and one Blu-ray Disc. The discs will include a new stereo mix of the original 1970 album; two discs of sessions from Get Back (the original title of the album); the 1969 Get Back album mixed by Glyn Johns that was cast aside when Phil Spector was brought into the project; and an EP featuring four addition previously-unreleased cuts and new mixes!

Let It Be was originally released on May 8, 1970 and was The Beatles' last-released studio album (although it was recorded prior to 1969's Abbey Road). The album was re-introduced in 2003 via Let It Be... Naked. Spearheaded by Paul McCartney, that remix stripped away Spector's signature over production so fans could hear more sparse versions of the album's tracks.

The forthcoming "Special Edition" of Let It Be comes at the perfect time, just weeks before the premiere of director Peter Jackson's The Beatles: Get Back three-part documentary airs on Disney + in November.

R.E.M.'s 'Monster' set to return via deluxe 6-disc reissue

I saw this news tonight on Twitter and had to share the exciting news...

R.E.M.’s ‘Monster’ six-disc reissue to feature newly remixed album, live set and unheard demos

R.E.M. will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their YEAR Monster this fall with a six-disc reissue that will include previously unheard demos, an unreleased live concert, the “Road Movie” film and a newly remixed version of the album by original producer Scott Litt.

The 5 CD/1 Blu-ray box set and a 2 LP vinyl edition are both due out Nov. 1 on Craft Recordings. They’ll officially be announced Wednesday, but already are available for pre-order via Amazon.com.

The box set will include:

• CD 1: The original album, remastered
• CD 2: Fifteen previously unreleased demos with titles like “Uptempo Mo Distortion,” “Time Is On Mike’s Side,” “Harlan County with Whistling” and “Uptempo Ricky”
• CD 3: A newly remixed version of the album by Scott Litt. According to the product listing, “The original 199(4) version was dense in guitars and feedback with the vocals mixed within the sonic wall, but on this alternative version the guitars are pulled back and the vocals pushed forward to create a more open sound and showcase often-revealing lyrics”
• CDs 4-5: A previously unreleased recording of the band’s 25-song Monster Tour set at the Rosemont Horizon outside of Chicago, Ill., on June 3, 1995
• Blu-ray: A disc featuring 5.1 Surround and Hi-Resolution Audio mixes of the remastered Monster, plus the 1996 concert film “Road Movie” and the music videos for the singles “What’s The Frequency, Kenneth?,” “Crush With Eyeliner,” “Star 69,” “Strange Currencies,” “Tongue” and “Bang and Blame”

The Monster box set also will include new liner notes, featuring fresh interviews with the band’s members, by Matthew Perpetua, creator of Fluxblog and the R.E.M.-focused Pop Songs 07-08 blog. Additionally, the packaging will feature artwork redesigned by the original cover artist, Chris Bilheimer.

The 2 LP vinyl edition will include the remastered album on one disc and the 2019 remix on the other.

Released on Sept. 27, 1994, Monster was both a multi-platinum seller and managed to alienate some of the group’s longtime fans with a loud mix that was heavy on Peter Buck’s tremelo-affected guitars. The band launched its first tour in six years in 1995, though it was plagued by repeated health problems. 

The 6-disc Monster set is the largest yet in R.E.M.’s ongoing 25th anniversary reissue series, which graduated from 2-disc sets to 4-disc packages with Out of Time and Automatic For the People.
