The Lone Bellow Return With Gleaming New Single "Gold" // Fall Tour Announced, On Tour Now With Maren Morris

Exciting news that the Lone Bellow is back with new music. Check out the trio's shimmering new track "Gold." I first caught the group at the Stagecoach Festival back in April 2013 (read my coverage of that memorable appearance HERE). 

July 21, 2022 - Today, Nashville-based trio The Lone Bellow released their new single titled “Gold.” The first new release since their triumphant 2020 album Half Moon Light, “Gold” embodies an unvarnished intensity with a galvanizing look at the real-life impact of the opioid crisis. Recorded with their longtime bassist Jason Pipkin and drummer Julian Dorio, the chorus explodes in a wild collision of bright piano tones, potent beats, and massively stacked guitars.

“We don’t ever try to write songs with an agenda, so with ‘Gold’ the idea was to tell the story from the perspective of someone in a hard situation—in this case, a guy who’s stuck in the downward spiral of addiction,” stated guitarist Brian Elmquist. “We’ve sung ‘Gold’ as a folk song in the past, but for the recording we wanted to really experiment and push our sound as far as it could go.”

 

The Lone Bellow are currently on tour this summer supporting Maren Morris with upcoming dates that include Salt Lake City, Boise, San Diego, and Phoenix among others. They have also announced their fall headline tour which kicks off on October 22nd in Stoughton, WI and includes stops at Chicago’s Thalia Hall, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, DC’s 9:30 Club, and NYC’s Webster Hall among others. Founded by Zach Williams, Kanene Donehey Pipkin, and Brian Elmquist, The Lone Bellow made their auspicious debut in 2013 with the self-titled, Charlie Peacock-produced album that quickly landed at No. 64 on the Billboard 200. It later turned up on best-of-the-year lists from the likes of Paste and PopMatters. With over 100 million career streams to date, The Lone Bellow’s past output also includes the Aaron Dessner-produced Then Came the Morning (a 2015 effort that earned them an Americana Music Award nomination) and Walk Into a Storm (a 2017 release produced by Dave Cobb and hailed by NPR for its “warmly rousing, gospel-inflected Americana”).

Music lovers who have an ear for great Americana, roots, soul and R&B are in luck thanks to a trio of recent releases that are among the early gems of 2020.

Tell me more: The Lone Bellow dive deep into their rich Americana sonicscape on their new album Half Moon Light. Produced by The National's Aaron Dessner, Half Moon Light is the trio's fourth full-length studio album and first new one since 2017. The anthemic "Count On Me" and "Good Times" may well be the highlights on the glorious album, but other standouts abound. Guitarist Brian Elmquist, lead vocalist Zach Williams and multi–instrumentalist Kanene Donehey Pipkin continue to deliver their soaring three-part vocal harmonies and stellar musicianship this time out but there is a burgeoning power in the depth of the lyrics and growth that shines bright across Half Moon Light from start to finish. Tell me more: A talented soul singer and lead guitarist, James Hunter is expert at tapping into classic rhythm and blues stylings and making them his own. Now comes the James Hunter Six on their latest full-length LP, the 13-track stunner Nick of Time. Tell me more: Acclaimed singer-guitarist Will Sexton has returned with his first new album in more than a decade. The good news is that Don't Walk The Darkness was fully worth the wait, a warm and inviting listen all the more powerful in the wake of Sexton's recovery following a 2009 stroke he suffered that robbed him of much of his verbal and language abilities. His recovery is clear listening to the range and depth of the original songs showcased on Don't Walk The Darkness (released on March 6). The rootsy sound showcased on the 10-song LP blends sounds associated with his Austin roots and current home in Memphis.
