AC/DC confirm comeback! Brian Johnson, Phil Rudd and Cliff Williams set to return for new album 'PWR UP'

AC/DC is back! After several days of online hints, today comes official word that the legendary hard rockers are set to return with a new album titled PWR UP. And that includes a lineup that features singer Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd, bassist Cliff Williams along with lead guitarist Angus Young and rhythm guitarist Stevie Young. This afternoon (Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020), the band confirmed this news via social media channels and other online announcements. Johnson had been away from the group for four years (after experiencing serious hearing loss), while Rudd had been missing from the lineup for the past five years!

The next album will be the band's first since 2014's Rock Or Bust! LP.

Malcolm Young Remembered

Malcolm Young, who founded AC/DC with his brother Angus Young in 1972, has died. Young, who last performed with the band in Bilbao, Spain in 2010, was replaced by his nephew Stevie Young in 2014. Malcolm Young was only 64. This morning (Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017), my MUSIC WORTH BUYING co-host TJR and I got together to reflect on the legacy of Malcolm Young. You can watch the episode here:

Coachella update: AC/DC guitarist Angus Young joins Guns N' Roses on stage

Whew! Lots of news and notes out of Coachella going into the final day of Weekend #1 of the annual festival.

None of that news is bigger than just as a media release from the official camps representing AC/DC and Guns N' Roses lead singer Axl Rose. It is now official that Rose will be replacing long-time AC/DC vocalist Brian Johnson at a number of upcoming tour dates. And last night (Saturday, April 16), AC/DC lead guitarist Angus Young joined GNR on stage at Coachellafest to perform a couple of solid rockers (including a strong version of "Whole Lotta Rosie" and "Riff Raff"). Below I've posted some fan footage of last night's performance of "Whole Lotta Rosie" captured in Indio, CA, followed by the official media release detailing what is happening.

AC/DC'S ROCK OR BUST WORLD TOUR RESUMES WITH AXL ROSE ON VOCALS   "AC/DC band members would like to thank Brian Johnson for his contributions and dedication to the band throughout the years. We wish him all the best with his hearing issues and future ventures.  As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian's decision to stop touring and save his hearing.  We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment."   AC/DC will resume their Rock Or Bust World Tour with Axl Rose joining on vocals.   The European stadium tour dates begin on May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal and run through June 12 in Aarhus, Denmark as previously announced (see below for full itinerary).  Following this European run of dates with AC/DC, Axl Rose will head out on his Guns N' Roses, 'Not In This Lifetime' Summer Stadium Tour.   The 10 postponed U.S shows will be rescheduled and announced imminently, also with Axl Rose.

December 14, 2015 - New York, NY - American dates for the next leg of AC/DC's "Rock or Bust" World Tour were announced today.  The American dates kick off on February 2, 2016 in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome and run through April 4, 2016 in New York, NY at Madison Square Garden (see below for a full list of dates). The American Tour date announcement comes after a massive year for the band, with them kicking off the 57th annual Grammy Awards, headlining at Coachella, and completing 28 shows in Europe, 14 shows in North America and 11 shows in Australia/New Zealand.

AC/DC 'Rock or Bust' Available December 2, 2014

TURNER SPORTS TO PREMIERE NEW TRACK 'PLAY BALL' AS PART OF 2014 MLB ON TBS POSTSEASON CAMPAIGN

Columbia Records proudly announces the release of Rock or Bust, the highly anticipated new studio album from AC/DC, available December 2, 2014. Rock or Bust is the band's first studio album in six years and features 11 new tracks.  Rock or Bust follows the immensely successful 'Black Ice' album, which debuted at #1 in 31 countries upon its release in 2008 and has gone on to sell nearly 8 million copies worldwide.  'Rock or Bust' was recorded in Spring 2014 at Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC and finds AC/DC once again working with producer Brendan O'Brien and mixer Mike Fraser.  

Starting September 27, Turner Sports will provide fans a sneak peek of the new track 'Play Ball' as part of the 2014 Major League Baseball Postseason campaign.  The content will run for several weeks across TBS, the exclusive home to this year's American League Postseason coverage, as well as leading media brands within the Turner portfolio.

'Rock or Bust' is the first AC/DC album in the band's 41 year history without founding member Malcolm Young on the recordings.  Earlier this year AC/DC released a statement explaining that due to illness, Malcolm would be taking a break from the band.  Unfortunately, due to the nature of Malcolm's condition, he will not be returning to the band.  AC/DC will undertake a world tour in support of 'Rock or Bust' in 2015.  Stevie Young, nephew of founding members Angus and Malcolm Young, plays rhythm guitar on 'Rock or Bust' and will accompany the band on tour.

A classic Who rocker, “BE LUCKY” is THE WHO’s first new material in eight years. The track was produced by Dave Eringa best known for his work with the Manic Street Preachers and Wilko Johnson + Roger Daltrey.

Recorded at the end of the summer at British Grove and Yellowfish Studios, “BE LUCKY” features long time Who live players Zak Starkey (drums) and Pino Palladino (bass), with the keyboards being provided by ex Style Council and Dexys sideman Mick Talbot. In keeping with their ongoing support for Teenage Cancer charities, the band have donated their royalties from the song to Teen Cancer America, a charity founded in 2011 by Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend.

WHO HITS 50! is being released October 27, 2014, on Geffen/Universal Music Enterprises (UMe) to coincide with the band’s 50th anniversary tour of the same name, which starts in Dublin on November 26.
