Inbox Update: Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr, Dean Martin Variety Show, Fiona Apple

This is a busy time with me prepping to attend both the Coachella and Stagecoach music fests out in Indio, California this month. But there are some pretty significant announcements, so I wanted to quickly get those posted for you here...

Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr's David Lynch Foundation Benefit, Airing on THIRTEEN on Sunday, April 29, 2012

Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited on an American stage for the first time in 17 years during this historic April 2009 Radio City Music Hall benefit concert, which will be broadcast in New York on THIRTEEN on Sunday, April 29, at 10:30 pm (check local listings for broadcast dates and times in your area).

The Beatle reunion highlights the 90-minute "Change Begins Within" concert to benefit the David Lynch Foundation, a charity set up in 2005 by the iconic filmmaker David Lynch to fund Transcendental Meditation programs for at-risk youth, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, and women who suffer from domestic abuse and violence.

McCartney performs a set of Beatles, Wings and solo classics; Starr sings his own set of Beatle and solo hits. McCartney and Starr join together on stage for "With A Little Help from My Friends," Paul’s rarely performed "Cosmically Conscious,” and Beatle fan favorite "I Saw Her Standing There.”

Also appearing on the broadcast are comedian Jerry Seinfeld as well as musicians Sheryl Crow (“My Sweet Lord”), Eddie Vedder and Ben Harper (“Under Pressure”), Moby and Betty LaVette (“Natural Blues”), Paul Horn, newly-elected Rock-and-Roll-Hall of Famer Donovan and Jim James (“Hurdy Gurdy Man”).

The concert was co-produced by Hoosick Falls Productions and David Lynch Foundation Television with executive producers George Verschoor, David Lynch, and Bob Roth.

THE DEAN MARTIN VARIETY SHOW--UNCUT TO BE RELEASED BY TIME LIFE MAY 22, 2012

NEW 3-DVD SET FEATURES 6 COMPLETE AND UNEDITED EPISODES AS THEY ORIGINALLY AIRED ON TELEVISION

COLLECTION FEATURES MORE THAN 75 MUSICAL PERFORMANCES BY BUCK OWENS, CYD CHARISSE, JOEY HEATHERTON AND MORE

NBCUniversal Television Consumer Products Group and TIME LIFE have announced the release of a new 3-DVD set featuring The Best of the Dean Martin Variety Show, available at all major retailers on May 22nd. The Dean Martin Variety Show--UNCUT features 6 entire episodes from the series, digitally re-mastered and restored for this special collection. UNCUT captures the spirit of the show like no other DVD has before. Previous collections have featured clips from the program, but none offered fans the chance to view the show as it originally aired during its nine-year run on NBC from 1965 to 1974. Hosted by Dean Martin, the acclaimed variety and comedy show was one of the highest-rated in television history, garnering 12 Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe award (Dean Martin “Best Actor in a Comedy Television Series” 1967), and frequented by hundreds of guests from across the world of entertainment including legendary actors and actresses from the stage and screen, pop and jazz singers, dancers and comedians.

The Dean Martin Variety Show--UNCUT boasts six classic episodes of The Dean Martin Variety Show, featuring Dean and an impressive array of guests. The variety and comedy show was like no other at the time. There were no rehearsals, no re-takes, and Martin simply just wasn’t a host behind a desk and a microphone – he took part in virtually all the segments and created a freewheeling setting that became a rare and exciting element for viewers. Whether talking and singing with guests or performing a comedy sketch, Martin put every guest at ease and was able to coax even the most serious actors to indulge in their comedic and musical sides. The show was as fun to be a part of as it was to watch, and no other DVD conveys that atmosphere better than UNCUT. Two 6 DVD collections of The Dean Martin Variety Show were released last year, featuring clips from 38 episodes, and have already sold over 5 million copies.

Among the comedians and actors featured in UNCUT are: Sid Caesar and Marguerite Piazza, who at the time were co-stars of the popular series Your Show of Shows; comic legends Allen & Rossi and Jackie Mason, together in one side-splitting episode; country-music legend Buck Owens, who duets with Dean, reminding fans that Dean loved country music; plus Broadway legends Zero Mostel and Tommy Tune.

A famed star of the silver screen, television icon, Grammy® Award-winning singing sensation and member of the renowned “Rat Pack,” Dean Martin’s show business legacy is legendary. His musical career features such classics as “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head,” “That’s Amore,” “Mambo Italiano,” “Everybody Loves Somebody,” “Sway,” “Volare,” and more, releasing dozens of album recordings over his lifetime. Starring in dozens of well-known movies including Ocean’s Eleven, Rio Bravo, The Caddy, and Who Was That Lady?,for which Martin received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor, coupled with a highly popular television career, Dean Martin certainly earned his nickname as the “King of Cool.”

FIONA APPLE ANNOUNCES SUMMER TOUR

New Track "Every Single Night" is set for April 24 release in conjunction with album pre-order launch

June 19, 2012 Release Date Confirmed For

The Idler Wheel is wiser
than the Driver of the Screw
and Whipping Cords will serve you more
than Ropes will ever do.

On June 19, Clean Slate/Epic Records will release Fiona Apple's first album in seven years. The GRAMMY®-winning artist will launch a summer headline tour that evening at the State Theatre in Ithaca, NY. The run, which will include performances at The Governors Ball Music Festival on New York City's Randall's Island (June 24) and Nashville's historic Ryman Auditorium (July 13), will conclude at the Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, CA on July 29.

Like Apple's 1999 record, When the Pawn..., the new album's title is a poem:

The Idler Wheel is wiser
than the Driver of the Screw
and Whipping Cords will serve you more
than Ropes will ever do.

"Every Single Night," the collection's first single, will be available beginning Tuesday, April 24, on the iTunes Store, where fans will also be able to pre-order the album. The cover for THE IDLER WHEEL... will feature an illustration by Apple.

"Whet your appetite for a new Fiona LP (yes!) with this tasty, arresting new ballad, which she busted out during a SXSW show," said Rolling Stone, placing "Every Single Night" on the "RS Playlist" while The New York Times marveled at how it "seesawed between lullaby and vehement chantey."

"Every Single Night" was one of three new songs Apple introduced on her recent sold-out spring tour - her first outing in five years. New York Magazine's Vulture.com hailed her performances as "mind-blowing" while the Village Voice called her "a lightning-rod presence" and the Philadelphia Inquirer observed: "the word performance doesn't seem apt. There's nothing pat about what she does."

"Fiona Apple has control. That's clear from the moment she took the stage," said The New York Times. "She has always been part blues woman, part dark cabaret singer, part illicit rock confessor. Her songs limn the erotics of danger and also the pains of disappointment, drawing equal strength from both."

You can check out Apple performing "Every Single Night" and "Anything We Want," another track from her upcoming album, at:

Apple made her debut at age 19 with 1996's Tidal, which is certified triple Platinum. Rolling Stone named her Artist of the Year in 1997 and in 1998 she won a GRAMMY for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for one of the album's singles, "Criminal." When the Pawn...followed in 1999, and was hailed by Entertainment Weekly as "the work of an original." Extraordinary Machine debuted in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 and appeared on numerous critics' best-of-2005 lists.
