'Glen Campbell…I'll Be Me' to have world premiere on April 18

Glen Campbell…I'll Be Me promises to be a very powerful documentary film. Here is the official media release regarding the new film to have its premiere later this month...

'GLEN CAMPBELL… I’LL BE ME' to have World Premiere at Nashville Film Festival 2014 on April 18, 2014

GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME, directed and produced by James Keach (producer of Walk The Line) and produced by Trevor Albert (Groundhog Day), will have its world premiere at the 2014 Nashville Film Festival on April 18, 2014.  This powerful portrait of the life and career of great American music icon Glen Campbell opens to the viewer the world of the singular talent who created hits like Rhinestone Cowboy, Wichita Lineman andGentle on My Mind.  Winner of the Grammy for Lifetime Achievement and member of the Country Music Hall of Fame, Glen was the first country music star to cross over to the pop charts, opening a new realm of opportunity for generations of country musicians.  In 2011, when Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, he joined forces with his family to fight the biggest battle of his life.  Glen and his wife, Kim, made history by going public with the diagnosis – the first time a major American celebrity would share this experience with the world.   The Campbell family then embarked on a short “Goodbye Tour,” but the three-week engagement turned into an emotional and triumphant 151-show nationwide tour de force.  This epic human drama about the undying bond between Glen and Kim, and their unwavering caring for each other, chronicles a story of love, resilience and the power of song.  GLEN CAMPBELL…I’LL BE ME is the true tale of how America’s greatest country star would not give up his music or his family, against all odds.

The film features those who know and love Glen, including Bruce SpringsteenBill Clinton, The EdgePaul McCartneyJay LenoVince GillJimmy WebbBlake SheltonSheryl CrowKeith UrbanBrad PaisleySteve MartinChad Smith and Taylor Swift among many others.  Rare vintage footage and extraordinary new performances of Glen’s most beloved hits immerse this moving cinematic account in the overwhelming talent of this humble family man.  With joy and a tireless sense of humor, Glen and his family live each moment in the present while preparing for the future, all while playing their music to sold out venues on a star spangled voyage spanning the country from Carnegie Hall to the Hollywood Bowl.

Director James Keach says, “Of all the movies I’ve ever made, this is the most special because of the characters, that’s what the audience falls in love with no matter what the action in the film.  In this case of the character of Glen Campbell, who was the original crossover musical genius, we have a man who is told to end his career and he does the opposite, inspiring the rest of us to live our lives in the moment and to be ourselves no matter what — with no shame.  He’s been down a rocky road and he still has a smile on his face and a song in his heart.  That
s Glen.  For him to ask me to tell his story was something I had to do, this tale potentially had so much sadness but in the end it’s a triumph and aims to achieve Glen’s dream to tell it like it is.  As Glen says, “I’ve laughed and I’ve cried...it’s a hell of a lot better to laugh.”

Producer Trevor Albert adds, “What a miraculous, joyous and poignant ride we have been on with the Campbell family.  The story that unfolded in the course of Glen’s goodbye tour was filled with more drama, comedy and entertainment than any movie I’ve ever been involved with.”

PCH, the producer of the film, is partnering with Area23a, an event based theatrical distribution company, co-founded by Kirt Eftekhar and Richard Abramowitz for a unique hybrid theatrical release through a combination of special event screenings this summer, culminating with a full national release of the film to coincide with Alzheimer’s Awareness Month this fall.  Nationwide screenings will be designed to provoke meaningful conversations about Alzheimer’s that include resources for patients and families dealing with the disease.

About Glen Campbell

Glen Campbell’s musical and entertainment career, covering nearly five decades, is perhaps unmatched for its prolific breadth, popular appeal – and flat-out musical accomplishment and achievement.  His guitar playing is legendary and can be heard on classic tracks from Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys, to Frank Sinatra’s Strangers in the Night.

As a solo artist Glen has recorded some of the most beloved songs of his generation including “Gentle On My Mind,” “Galveston” and “Rhinestone Cowboy.”  He has been awarded five Grammy Awards and three Grammy Hall of Fame honors, seven Academy of Country Music awards, a Pioneer Award recognition, three American Music Awards, two Country Music Association Awards and three Gospel Music Association Dove Awards.  Glen was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005.  Glen Campbell was the first artist to cross the boundary from country to the pop charts, which transcended him to true musical icons status both with the music industry and with fans.

In 2011, Glen was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and with the help of his wife and family decided to face the illness head on.   After publicly announcing his battle with Alzheimer’s, he released the album Ghost on the Canvas and began his “Good Bye Tour.”  Selling out concert halls across the globe to spectacular acclaim and standing ovations, the album and tour received some of the best reviews of his distinguished career.  On Feb 13, 2012 Glen performed on the Grammy Awards, to an audience of 39 million people, and was given the distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award.

Legendary ladies shine on Americana releases

The latest studio efforts from Carlene Carter and Suzy Bogguss, as well as a splendid collection of Linda Ronstadt's duets are essential for fans and the uninitiated.

Artist: Carlene Carter
Title: Carter Girl (Rounder Records / Concord Music Group)
You might like if you enjoy: June Carter Cash, Willie Nelson, Vince Gill
Tell me more: Carlene Carter, the daughter of June Carter Cash and granddaughter Maybelle Carter, has been performing since she was four so it's not surprising that her musical DNA shines on a full-length celebration of the Carter family's musical legacy. Whether revisiting seminal Carter Family chestnuts ("Gold Watch and Chain," "Little Black Train") or performing wonderful originals (particularly the lush "Me and the Wildwood Rose"adorned by Sam Bush's mandolin and Rami Jaffee's keyboard textures), Carter Girl is magnificent. Well-placed guests include Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and Kris Kristofferson. Carter Girl will be available on April 8, 2014. Information: carlenecarter.net.
Purchase 'Carter Girl' here

Artist: Suzy Bogguss
Title: Lucky (Loyal Dutchess Records)
You might like if you enjoy: Deana Carter, Merle Haggard
Tell me more: Anyone who has ever seen Merle Haggard knows the power of his emotive songs' emotional jab thanks to a real life confessional touch. Songstress Suzy Bogguss' newly-issued tribute to the Hag, Lucky, taps into that affecting vein. Bogguss strikes deep on the romantic ballad "Today I Started Loving You Again," the bluesy "The Bottle Let Me Down" and exquisite "If We Make It Through December." Lucky is out now. Information: suzybogguss.com.

Artist: Linda Ronstadt
Title: Duets (Rhino)
You might like if you enjoy: Martina McBride, Emmylou Harris
Tell me more: When Linda Ronstadt is inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 10, 2014, it will be the latest accomplishment in a long career that has included 11 Grammy Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award and countless gold, platinum and multiplatinum albums. Now comes the release of Duets, a rich collection of 15 songs featuring the singer showcasing her special ability to shine as a distinctive lead singer or to blend her voice effortlessly with other singers. In a wide-ranging career that has seen the Arizona native tackle everything from rock and country to world music, Duets captures that same eclectic spirit. The traditional Americana gem "Pretty Bird" is offered mostly a cappella with Laurie Lewis while a true masterpiece is presented via Hank Williams' "I Can't Help It (If I'm Still In Love With You)" with Emmylou Harris. Duets will be available on April 8. Information: rhino.com.

Reasons Why I No Longer Hate American Idol (And why season XIII has been so worth watching)

Reasons Why I No Longer Hate American Idol
(And why season XIII has been so worth watching)   By TJR

No one has prayed for the death of American Idol more than me, but Season XIII has given me a real change of heart. Here's a few reasons why.

All the judges are now not only veteran performers, but are also currently working professionals too (in other words, they have a right to be there).

All the judges are passionate about helping the contestants improve and grow.

The judges have spoken out against auto tuning.

The judges have continually stated that the goal is not to be famous but to be the best at your craft (and then the rest will follow). .

All the unnecessary sadism of the Simon Cowell era has been replaced with "real" useful constructive criticism.

75% of the fluff and cheese from the original series is gone.

None of the contestants this year are obvious "Cookie Cutter" singers (as opposed to previous seasons).

Originality is encouraged as opposed to the way it was discouraged during the Simon Cowell Era
"Being artistic is fine,,,,but not on this show".......Real quote from Simon Cowell

They are letting the contestants perform their own original songs.

The theme weeks aren't designed to help the contestants grow as opposed to screw them up.

It's no longer about the drama....It's now about the music and camaraderie.

On the elimination nights they have showcased up an coming new bands and artists (chosen by the judges) that deserve attention as opposed to the current flavor of the month top 40 chartbusters (who don't really need it).

Harry Connick Jr: His classic formal music training, combined with his passion for music and sense of humor has brought an integrity that this show previously didn't have.

The DVD arrives on April 29, 2014 as a stand alone DVD, as well as included in a deluxe version of the duo's acclaimed album The Ash & Clay, and as a digital download. Have a first look via The Wall St. Journal http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/03/31/watch-a-clip-from-the-new-dvd-from-the-milk-carton-kids/

The past months have seen The Milk Carton Kids profile decidedly on the rise. Their latest album The Ash & Clay was nominated for a Grammy and they turned in stand-out performances on Austin City Limits, A Prairie Home Companion, and The Americana Music Awards. In addition, the duo was singled out for praise when they appeared at T-Bone Burnett and the Coen brothers’ “Another Day Another Time” concert at New York's Town Hall celebrating the music of Inside Llewyn Davis - an event which continues to air on Showtime. Their recent performance at The Allen Room in NYC as part of The Lincoln Center's American Songbook series was featured in The New York Times Magazine, which compared them to The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel before writing, “With vintage guitars and matching tailored suits, and backdropped by a spectacular view of Columbus Circle and a snowy Central Park, (Joey) Ryan and (Kenneth) Pattengale projected a kind of old-fashion authenticity in an Auto-Tune world.”

This DVD will also be available at their shows as the band embarks on their national tour starting April 14, 2014 in Nashville, TN.

On June 10, Swedish duo First Aid Kit will make their Columbia Records debut with Stay Gold. First single "My Silver Lining" is now available for streaming via Pitchfork (http://bit.ly/1gTAOFY/). The band has also announced a full headlining North American tour this spring that has already begun to sell out, with stops at NYC's Webster Hall and their first-ever appearance at Bonnaroo Music Festival. Full dates below.
With Stay Gold, First Aid Kit - sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg - have honed their lush arrangements and blossomed as vivid storytellers in creating this ambitious 10-song collection of originals. Recorded at ARC studios in Omaha and produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Monsters of Folk), the duo also enlisted The Omaha Symphony Orchestra to play on the record, with arrangements by Nate Walcott (Bright Eyes, Broken Bells, Rilo Kiley). They say of the recording process, "We took new directions and turns with the arrangements, building them up and creating more dynamics, yet always following where the songs wanted to go."
Watch: Exclusive album trailer, filmed on location in Death Valley (directed by Neil Krug): http://bit.ly/1gTvIJQ

Drawing inspiration from sources as varied as Spaghetti Westerns and Lee Hazlewood productions, "My Silver Lining" features the duo's most sophisticated songwriting and arrangements to date. They explain, "It's song about searching for a reason to keep on keeping on, to find the good that comes with the bad. We wanted to create a piece that was dark yet uplifting at the same time." Elsewhere, songs like "Master Pretender" capture the lush, confident instrumentation of 'Graceland'-era Paul Simon.
Hailing from a southern suburb of Stockholm, Klara and Johanna began composing songs as teenagers in 2007. Their heart-wrenching song "Emmylou" off 'The Lion's Roar' was chosen by Rolling Stone as a 'Single of the Year' in 2012. They have performed on Late Show with David Letterman, Conan, and shared the stage with artists including Jack White, Lykee Li, and Bright Eyes.
On Tuesday April 1, Stay Gold will be available for iTunes pre-order, orders will come with an instant grat download of "My Silver Lining." iTunes - http://bit.ly/1lhXoaN
First single "You Move Me," is classic Cray with his signature slicing guitar leads woven throughout. The bulk of In My Soul is made up of original material with a few covers including Otis Redding's "Nobody's Fault But Mine," "Your Good Thing (Is About to End)" and "Deep in My Soul" by the late Bobby "Blue" Bland. "I didn't want to change it—just do it pretty straight up as a tribute to Bobby, who was one of my real heroes," says Cray.
"When I think of Robert Cray, I think of a great singer," says Jordan. "Most people gravitate to his guitar playing because he's such a gunslinger, but I don't. He's got so much soul it's ridiculous."
Wall Street Journal says In My Soul is "a tasteful, laid-back album, and while there's plenty of Cray's distinctive guitar playing, there's more to the new LP than fiery licks."  UK Daily Mirror calls the album "Impressive" and gives it 4 stars.
Widely recognized as one of the greatest guitarists of our time, The New Yorker calls him "one of the most reliable pleasures of soul and blues for over three decades now " and Rolling Stone Magazine credits him with having "reinvented the blues with his distinct razor sharp guitar playing."
The youngest living member to be inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame, Robert Cray has sold more than 12 million records, has his own line of Fender guitars and has established himself as a genre defining artist- a signature blend of r&b, pop, rock, soul and traditional blues.
This year marks the 40th year since the formation of the Robert Cray Band. The band includes Cray (vocals/guitar), longtime bassist Richard Cousins, Dover Weinberg (back with the band on piano/keyboard) and Les Falconer (drums).
